A: Almost no difference, unless you're using these drives as regular OS drives, where application read/write speed is more critical. If building a NAS I would recommend 5400s, the read speed is fine for streaming, they last longer than 7200s on average, and they're usually cheaper. I got these 7200 at a great price, so it made sense for me at the time.

A: While this drive will install, and boot in the new iMac it does not have Apples thermal sensor. Because of this the fans in the iMac will always run at 100% and I would not recommend it as an upgrade. Also note that the new iMacs are very difficult to open for the upgrade.
