My lens cap is 77mm. when I rotate 77mm filter on the lens, it is smoothly. the hood connects with lens or connect with filter if you first installing filer. my filter is HOYA NXT 77MM. from my observation, i don't think you can rotate an 82mm filter.

Q: 3. Can I used this on a lens that has a ND filter attached?

A: Depends on the type of ND filter you are using. Most variable ND filters do not come with front threads or are larger than the rear diameter, meaning you won't be able to use screw-on threaded hoods. If you're using a single-density ND filter, it should not be an issue.
