Sigma introduces the Leica L-mount 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens, the world's first zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras with an f/1.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range. Featuring prime-like optical performance and video-friendly design and functionality, its wide-to-normal focal range means a lighter kit bag without surrendering image quality.

The lens features a total of 18 elements in 15 groups, with three aspherical and five Special Low Dispersion elements to minimize flare and ghosting and suppress various aberrations. This results in an optical performance that meets or exceeds that of other Sigma Art lenses, including the primes. Along with its 11-blade, rounded diaphragm, the design promotes sharpness and a large, smooth bokeh when used wide open.

In addition to the f/1.8 maximum aperture, the lens also maintains an 11.9" minimum focusing distance across the entire zoom range. It achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at its longest focal length, increasing depth of field and versatility in tight spaces.

Designed with video creation in mind, the lens' bright f/1.8 aperture and wide-to-normal zoom range make it a versatile tool ideal for single-shooter, run-and-gun setups. An internal zoom design maintains the overall length during use, making it easy to balance on gimbals. The design also suppresses focus breathing for smooth movement across the focal range. Sigma's high-speed, high-response linear actuator autofocus remains both quiet and accurate, while manual focusing is improved with click and lock mechanisms.

The L-mount lens also supports switching between linear and non-linear focus ring settings. With a rotation angle of 90 to 720° and a constant minimum focusing distance, operators will benefit from intuitive manual focusing at any focal length.

  • Two AFL buttons
  • Focus mode switch
  • Super multilayer and nano porous coatings
  • Water- and oil-repellent coating on front element
  • Dust- and splash-resistant design
  • Durable brass bayonet mount

[f/1.8] The quality of the lens and optics are remarkable. Sharpness, critical focal distance, focus fall-off, lack of chromatic aberration, build quality, and the smoothness of the focal change with fly-by-wire are insane. I’m incredibly excited to put this to work.
ONE THING to note. If you buy the L mount for panasonic, the sound of the motors changing the aperture within the lens are quite loud. If you were to rely solely on on-camera audio sources it will be picked up in quiet environments. Even when the lens is de-clicked this is the case. I actually video-chatted with B&H (amazing customer service) to verify it wasn’t a malfunction. After testing it in-store on a sony e-mount, we assumed my lens was defective until i received the replacement and did a second video call because of the same issue. Originally the representative said his lens was quiet, but i asked him to use an L-mount on a panasonic to verify this. Once he swapped lens mounts/camera he observed a noticeable increase in the noise of the aperture motors from the lens. VERY unlikely 3 lenses all have an issue.
All that said: I’m happily keeping the lens but wanted to let people know because i haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.

[1:4] I think the photos speak for themselves. First outing with this lens to Idaho. Sony A7 IV body. 20 sec. exposure time. Amazing results. If you want to do this type of photography, this lens has no peer.

[f/1.8] While the Sigma 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a fantastic lens, it's important to note a few things: Size, Weight and the Price.

Overall, Its exceptional image quality, fast aperture, and versatility make it a valuable asset for a wide range of shooting scenarios.

[75.4° to 51.3°] I tend to prefer primes for pure image quality and the results from this lens are truly prime quality. I've done some comparison between this lens and my primes in this range on my Sony a7R V and wide open at shared apertures it competes very well.

If you are okay with the FL range of 28-45, want something faster than a traditional zoom, and are willing to have a largish/heavyish lens...go for it. It's a winner.

[11 x 6.1 x 6.1"] I waited a couple of months before purchasing this lens. I wasn't sure it fit my needs. I was concerned about the size and weight. Well, if you are on the fence just try it. Sharpness galore, fast focusing, not heavy, 1.8 and a focal range really does work for me. I find myself using it for indoor portraits. It's not really a travel lens but event stuff or family photos. I see this being great for the holidays. I ended up getting another copy for the L mount. That one of course is equally as impressive. I highly recommend.

[Full-Frame] Quite sharp wide open on both ends of the zoom. Bokeh not quite as smooth as some of my prime lenses in the range. Great contrast. Fast Auto focus.

[Autofocus] This is my best purchased this year. The internal zoom make a great combo with my fx3 on gimbal setup

[1:4] I have seen people complain about the focal range being too narrow, and while I’d love for it to go fully to 50…. Honestly, isn’t 45 close enough?

The lens is super sharp, and autofocuses like a dream. Great build quality and not TOO large/heavy. I’ve see. Those complaints also, but really, it’s not that bad!

Lens is amazing.

[82 mm (Front)] OK, I haven't tried this lens. But the review below hasn't either and is extremely unfairly giving this a 3 star overall rating. I used a 24-35 f/2 for a couple years, though.

With video you need more testing for distortion, lens breathing, et. but lenses, in general, are all pretty good for photography these days. So mainly look at the specs. It's fairly heavy, though it could be worse. It starts at 28 which may not be wide enough for many — 24 is a big difference. But if you like the range going to normal (true normal is about 43mm if you're pedantic so this covers it) and don't mind no 24mm to 27 then this could be great for documentary coverage.

[f/1.8] Perfect walk around lens for my video cameras. it's what the 18-35 used to be on my C300mk3. I wish they made an EF version, but I doubt they will at this point. I use this on my FX6 and Burano. A little heavy, but worth it.
