[Schmidt-Pechan] These are great binoculars- amazingly crisp, clear and bright image. I also like the compact size and nice rubber covering. I compared the Conquest's to Maven's awesome B2 11x45's. The Zeiss are very close in image quality and I ended up keeping both the Zeiss and Maven's simply because I could not choose between them.

I do agree with the reviews that the objective lens covers are irritating and insufficient, however I had an extra lens cover from an old pair of binoculars which works great. There are many generic options available, so don't let the lens covers stop you from buying this awesome binocular- they really are great.

[42 mm] Been wanting a really nice pair of binocs for years and finally Leica and Zeiss are making a more affordable option. I felt like the Leica were brighter when in the store and now that I am home, I really love these. Going from 8 x 42 to 10 x 42 was a great choice for me. Most of what I do is wildlife viewing and studying terrain. These are perfect for my needs. I will be getting a cross-back strap because they are a little heavy (but worth it for the view).

[-4 to +4] I took these binoculars on a 2 week birding tour in the Mexican jungle. The HD component was fantastic especially since I was always looking at birds among bushes and leaves. The birds stood out so much better, it really improved my ability to see the birds more clearly.

[Schmidt-Pechan] These binoculars just exude quality in every way. They feel good in your hands, adjust well for users with and without glasses, the focus knob is buttery smooth, and the optical clarity, especially in low light conditions, is nothing short of amazing. Couple that with the exceptional price and service offered by the folks at B&H, and you've got yourself a winning combination... Highly recommended!

[42 mm] I'm enjoying the excellent optical quality and ease of use after much frustration with a pair of pricier Swarovski binoculars.

[Center] I tested 5 different pairs of binoculars and this was the runner up to the Nikon Monarch HG.

The had a slightly better image quality, brighter overall than the Nikon. I also liked the focus wheel, which was easier to turn than all the others, but some may perceive that as being a looser feel.

The reason I went with the Nikon was I liked the housing better. The Zeiss housing isn't terrible, but there were a few main differences:

1. Zeiss lens caps were not attached to the body, so you have to put them somewhere every time you take them off.
2. Better grippy, textured rubber coating on the Nikon
3. Locking diopter adjustment on the Nikon - you should only have to do this once, so I'd rather not have it moving around after I set it properly.
4. The nikon lenses were further away from the objective (large end) lenses, which should protect it from dust and rain better.

The models I tested:
1. Nikon Monarch HG - favorite overall
2. Zeiss Conquest HD - best image, housing not as good though
3. Nikon Monarch 7 - Great image, just fuzzier at the edges than the top 2
4. Vortex Viper - Focus knob was extremely difficult to turn
5. Nikon Monarch 5 - similar to Monarch 5 but with much narrower field of view
