Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what cable (s) i should buy with it ?

A: Pearstone 18" 7-pin Internal Straight to 90-Degree Serial ATA Cable (Red) B&H # PESATARA01R MFR # SATA-RA01R In Stock

Q: 2. What is the difference between wd4004fzwx and wd4003fzex? Both are WD 4TB HDD. I see 128MB cache and 64MB respectively and the 128MB costs less.

A: the 128MB drive is supposed to be newer, the 64MB the older model that has been tested. I think I checked BackBlaze data sheets and these drive have good results. They are pretty quiet as well.

Q: 3. Can this 12tb drive be used as in a desktop Windows 10 PC as a secondary hard drive mainly for storing large picture RAW files and large video files?

A: The Gold version of WDC's HDs is designed for data center (server) environments. That simply means it is designed to have a longer life span with heavier use. You pay more for that verses similarly sized WDC Blue or Black HDs but to answer your question yes it will work in a desktop PC with Windows 10 as a secondary drive.

Q: 4. Will this work with ps4 upgrade

A: No. This drive is 3.5 , The PS4 only supports 2.5 drives.

Q: 5. Will this work with OWC MERCURY ELITE PRO QX2?

A: It could work but it would not be advisable. You may want to consider instead an internal drive rated for NAS/DAS array usage. Desktop drives are not optimized for arrays like the QX2.

Q: 6. Will this drive work with Windows 11?

A: The WD 16TB Gold 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal Enterprise HDD can be formatted to work with Windows 11.

Q: 8. Can this one be used in the Alienware Area 51?

A: This will be compatible with the Alienware Area 51.

Q: 9. Where are the 1TB and 2TB WD BLACK HDD made?China or where?Thanks!

A: The one I have also says Thailand. I understand, however, that many manufacturers typically outsource the production to a variety of locations, so Thailand may, or may not, be the only place where these drives are made. Nevertheless, I've bought and used WD Black drives for many years, and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Q: 10. hii am from indiahi i want to buy this productcan be warranty cover in india ?

A: Yes, Western Digital provides an international warranty. In order to use the warranty in India, you would need to call them first to transfer the warranty coverage to India.

[1.79 lb] Hello, can I somewhere download and install a new FirmWare for the WD Gold WD 18TB, WD181KRYZ ?? I bought it, but my NAS (Qnap TS-1232XU-RP-4G) is probably incompatible with them. It is unfortunatelly freezing with this drive 18TB connected..
Or what do you recommend to me? What is doing the Jumper on the disk? Is it usable for me, for some eg. some capacity/speed limitation?? Thank you.

[1.79 lb] This HDD is quiet, fast(for a spinning platter drive) and has allowed me to accommodate my ever growing library of photos.
I reside in Australia and decided to purchase this drive from B&H for several reasons: - it was about $100 cheaper even accounting for the exchange rate and postage than purchasing it in Australia!
- WD offered me the same 5 year warranty by purchasing it from the US as I would ve got from buying in Australia
and I got the exceptional customer service and quick delivery that has been the hallmark of B&H for a long time!
Additionally, I might add - I was initially concerned about purchasing a platter HDD from overseas and having the possibility of it being damaged in transit due to its delicate nature. My fears were allayed by the reassurance I received from B&H about it being covered by their warranty should that happen and when it did arrive it was very securely packed such that the likelihood of that occurring was very slim! Thank You B&H! You have the best and most easily understood and navigable website, the best customer support and the products are very nearly always in stock! - David W. AUSTRALIA.

[8 TB] This is my 2nd one of these drives.  I use them for Super Duper bootable backups of my IMac internal hard drive, as a fail safe for Time Machine.  I use them with an external drive sled connected via USB 3.

Seem to work well, and get very little wear as they are only turned on when a backup is made.

[1.79 lb] Excellent product. Extremely solid. I ordered the 16TB and upon formatting to NTFS it was down to 14TB. Which is a loss of 2TB. Though this happens to nearly all hard drives (external or internal) due to formatting and system files required to run the beast. I haven't had it too long (maybe 2-3 months). Using it and had no problems. Very quick and its not even noisy. I do hear few clicks upon booting it up. But that's all. And I use it as a workstation close by (not stored away in the closet somewhere) and its very tolerable. Meaning it doesn't disturb me noise wise.

Hoping this is rock solid drives from Western Digital (shoutout to all you hard workers here that make these) that if goes long and strong (I'm betting) I'm only using Western Digital upon my next needs (upgrades or replacements). I have always used Western Digital in the past. Starting from their Blue lineups and even those remained working years on end. Highly impressed by WD. Thanks! Anyone thinking of buying, don't hesitate. Look up your needed specs and you're fully covered by WD. Thanks again!

Quick note: I was always curious as to why the stock photo looked so nice with the big covered gold sticker on the HDD. However, it does not look like the stock photos upon opening the package. It has a smaller gold sticker (unlike the stock photo). I'm guessing for lesser heat dissipation. But still looks good.:)
