Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads, which helps increase performance and reliability.

WD Red Pro hard drives are designed to handle the rigorous demands of high-intensity 24/7 multi-user NAS environments and increase system durability.

Western Digital partners with a wide range of NAS system vendors for extensive testing to ensure compatibility with most NAS enclosures.

WD Red Pro drives include Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors that anticipate and proactively counteract disturbances caused by increased vibration. By dispersing excess vibration across the drive chassis, turbulence is minimized, performance is maintained, and drives are protected.

WD Red Pro hard drives include a multi-axis shock sensor to detect subtle shock events and automatically compensate with dynamic fly height technology to further protect the drives in NAS enclosures.

Western Digital stands behind their NAS storage solutions with the assurance of a limited 5-year limited warranty and world-class support services for hassle free data storage.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between OEM and Retail packaging? Thank you!

A: The OEM would come in a plain white or brown box, and the retail model would come in a manufacturers branded box

Q: 2. Are 18TB Red Pro #WD181KFGX compatible with Synology DS923+?

A: The WD 18TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD with the part number WD181KFGX-SPAFPN0 is not on Synology's official compatibility list. This does not mean it won't work with the DS923+, but it does mean that Synology reserves the right to deny you service if you use this drive. Synology also reserves the right to change the list at any time.

Q: 3. Which drives are installed in WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2, the Red or Red Pro?

A: They would be the standard WD red hard drives.

Q: 4. Is this a Cmr or Smr drive?

Q: 5. Can I use these hard drives in the Promise Technology 6TB Pegasus2 R2+ Thunderbolt 2 RAID Storage Array? B&H # PRP2R2HD6US MFR # P2R2HD6CFUS

A: Yes, but the W.D red is optimized for NAS drives.

Q: 6. What is the difference between this B&H item (a WD30EFRX drive) and the following B&H item: B&H # WEWD30EFRX MFR # WD30EFRX?

A: The difference is one is a retail package, meaning it is packaged in a Western Digital box and the other is a bare drive. Usually sent in the static bag and packaged appropriately to protect in shipment. Retail package generally costs more due to packaging from the manufacturer.

Q: 7. Does the retail version include the screws for mounting it?

A: No, the WD 6TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (Retail) BH #WEBRJY0060HN does not include mounting screws. Those should be already either in your PC case or if using a NAS/RAID enclosure, they would be included with that.

[550 TB] These drives work well for their intended use. In over 5 years I have only had issues with one of them considering how may I have in service.

[4 TB] Recently upgraded to a new RAID set up and purchased these. Some of the reviews say they are loud but I don't know what they are talking about. These are running so quiet and they are super fast. Loving them after a few weeks of continual use.

[7.9 x 5 x 2.5"] I love WD's higher end drives like the Blacks, Reds, and Purples (Greens and Blues are garbage). I pretty much use WD exclusively, except for SSD which I prefer Samsung Evo's . I have 2 Synology NAS' with WD Reds in Raid 5 arrays (4 drives each). one drive starts to die approximately every 3 years (IO errors with a few bad sectors). I just configured a new Synology RS820+ in raid 10 w/(4) 4tb WD Red pro drives. No problems at all. The drives were shipped in OEM boxes, within a bigger box. All nice and tidy. I then ordered another drive, as a spare, which was also nicely packaged. I went with red pro over regular red for the higher cache.

[7.9 x 5 x 2.5"] Will only use the Red Pro rotational drives from WD for my NAS projects.

[4 TB] Works in the NAS as it should but you have to do one step before you can add it to the RAID. You need to remove all other HDD to format it, in the WD My Cloud EX4100, unless you have a stand alone setup to do so. Once formatted, you're just a few button clicks away from getting it setup on you RAID. Our last HDD was the same brand and size that lasted about 7 years at a usage rate of nearly 50 hours a week.

[12 VDC at 2 A] I have run a TrueNAS server in my home for many years and have never had an HDD failure. WD Red HDDs are the best but like any HDD, they should be kept cool (40C or lower) in order to last.

[65 G / 2.0 ms] Only time will tell, but these appear to be doing the job. I use them inside my Thunderbay 8 enclosure. I'm getting about 600MB/s write and 1500MB/s read with RAID 5. I bought the drives with the intention of letting them run pretty much constantly. I don't want to have to replace them for at least five years. We'll see, but so far so good.
