The Kase DIY Magnetic Screw-In Adapter Ring Kit 86mm86mm Kase DIY Magnetic Screw-In Adapter Ring Kit 86mmallows you to convert conventional 86mm screw-in filters to the magnetic type. The kit includes two rings. One ring is magnetic on one side and has 86mm male threading on the other. This ring screws onto your camera lens. The second ring is magnetic on one side and has a 86mm female thread on the other. Screw your filter onto this second ring. Then magnetically mount this second ring onto the first one that's already on the camera lens. Filters heavier than 2 oz, such as certain variable ND filters with brass rings, are not recommended.

A: You will want the proprietary Manfrotto 1/4 screws.

A: If I'm not mistaken this screw is nickle plated -- maybe chrome but more likely nickle.

A: First, this is a very professional and high quality! The D ring is also a great plus. I replaced all my plates with this and other better quality screws. The screws that come along the plates are so cheap.

Q: 5. What's the exact length? (Including the head and then the shaft only). I have a 3.5mm thick arca plate and 5.5mm depth tripod mount in the camera. On the other hand, the clearance for the head inside the plate is 6mm.

A: I have one of the 1/4 20 screws with D ring for fastening. I measured the overall length as 11.94mm and the threaded shaft is 8.25mm long. The head thickness is4mm and the depth of the plate for the head is 7mm. The screw works just fine and no need for tools to get the screw nicely tightened to the camera. The D ring folds down and fits in the plate properly to permit easy fit to the mount.Bob Haas

A: The length of the threaded portion of the Oben 1/4"-20 Screw with D-Ring for RP Plates is 7.1mm, whereas the length of the unthreaded portion is 4.3mm.

Q: 7. Can anyone tell me the diameter for un-threaded shaft section? I need to find an e-clip or circlip to fit this screw.

A: The diameter of the unthreaded shank extending from the head is 0.180 inches.

Q: 8. Can someone measure the width of the d-ring for me? I need something to replace the coin screw on my Vanguard QS-39 plate and it is a tight space. Thanks.

A: The ring is about 1/2".

[5 x 4.3 x 0.2"] Most of my lenses are 67mm so it is essential to have an adapter on each of the lenses so I can switch lenses and not have to unscrew the magnetic adapter and put it onto a new lens but can just pop on one of the magnetic filters. I also got the lens caps for each of the lenses. Kase's magnetic properties on these accessories is pretty darn strong. I don't have to hear about having the filter fall off because the magnets not hard enough. 5

[5 x 4.3 x 0.2"] I had always been skeptical about magnetic filter adapters, some of the early ones popped off too easily. This Kase set, however, has a nice grip on filters and it takes some violent shaking to make it pop off. Whereas I am still unlikely to equip all of my lenses with this for my frequently done daytime long exposures, I find this solution excellent for solar eclipses, where the filter needs to come off in a second and be popped back on in a second. Timing is everything on eclipses, and this takes the anxiety out of that filter change moment. In fact, it emboldened me to try shooting with a polarizer during the eclipse, to catch polarized corona light, and I bought a second filter ring for that. 5

[0.155 lb] It's a small thin adapter ring that gives Kase magnetic filters something to stick to. A warning, though: be sure the filters are fully stuck before letting go. The magnetic attraction isn't all that strong unless the filters are fully seated in the adapter. The ring is thin enough that lens shades can still slide over it without problems. It's a nice, convenient system that makes filter usage easy and quick. 5

[Aluminum] Whether it be a Kase Wolverine neutral density filter, or Magnetic Lens Cap you want to fit, the process all starts with this little blighter.. Ingenious, allowing the original lens hoods to be fitted either way, my experience is limited to Nikon, Zeiss, Fuji, Sigma, Olympus and Hasselblad lenses. I am sure there will be one out there, but I haven't found it yet! 5

[Aluminum] When I tried to use my magnetic filters on one of my lenses I realized they wouldn't fit (designed for 77mm). B&H had the adapter I needed at a great price and got it to me quickly. 100% satisfied. 5

During the Solar Eclipse, I'm glad I didn't have to unscrew the neutral density filter as totality started! I also use these with a polarizing filter, since I don't need that on continuously.
