The Tamron 17-50mm f/4 Di III VXD Lens Sony Esuits both video and photo needs with a unique focal length range that includes an ultra-wide 17mm position that's perfect for broad fields of view as well as for interior settings, architectural subjects, and even when recording vlogs at arm's length. The range extends to 50mm, offering a normal-length field of view, that suits portraits and tighter perspective of everyday subjects. Also, it has impressive close-up performance, with a 7.5" minimum focusing distance at the wide end and 11.8" on the long end, for working with nearby subjects. This flexible range is backed by a constant f/4 maximum aperture that helps prioritize portability and make this an ideal walkaround lens.

The lens design is also well-suited to multimedia use with the inclusion of a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for quick and quiet autofocus performance. The lens also has an internal zoom and internal focus design, meaning the overall length doesn't change during use for more intuitive handling that is easy to balance when working with a gimbal stabilizer.

Additionally, in terms of physical design, the 17-50mm has a moisture-resistant design with a front fluorine coating that makes cleaning simple and straightforward. It uses 67mm filters, just like most other Tamron mirrorless lenses, and it's also compatible with the Tamron Lens Utility software for fine-tuning lens performance to suit your needs.

[Full-Frame] This nickname is deservedly earned. The ultimate one-and-done lens that will be on my Sony body 95% of the time. With this and a small wide angle prime in your pocket (for example, the 28mm/2.0), you're pretty much set for just every photography/videography needs except for the extreme ends when you need a supertelephoto or ultrawide.

[Autofocus] A trully unique lens (as of mid 2024) , offering a wide (35mm) to tele 150mm) range but also very bright, ie f2 to f2.8. This is delivered with very good quality : the increase of the f is gradual, the resolution and clarity of the lens is very good throughout the range with wide open aperture. A very useful lens for street photography, but also for indorr shootings.

[67 mm (Front)] I got this lens to go with my Tamron 50-400. Although not as compact as Sony's kit lenses, its image quality is fantastic for the price. Photos are sharp with great contrast. What little lens flair there is, is easily kept under control with the included lens hood. As a nature/landscape photographer, I love the wider than 24mm angle. As someone with arthritis, I enjoy having a light-weight lens that can function indoors and out. There are some downsides. There is serious vignette at the widest angles as well as expected distortion (see Santa's Workshop with Christmas Tree at 23mm.) These can corrected in Lightroom or other software.

[Sony E] Why did it take so long after the Tamron 28-105 mm?
It's heavy but does all the heavy lifting. Great Bokeh!!

Sweeeet....
Don't leave home without it.. Great value

[Full-Frame] Amazing lens for run & gun type videography.
As a solo wedding videographer with no second shooter, this lens covered all my focal length needs & it’s so nice it goes down to f2.

I will say that it is pretty heavy and doesn’t seem to focus as quickly / reliably as my g master lenses, but it works beautifully overall and is now my primarily lens for wedding days.

[Autofocus] After tons more real world land and city scape. F/8 is excellent at all focal lengths. For me it is a five star lens.
