Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. On a Sony a6000 series camera how does the image quality of this lens compare to that of the Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 lens?

A: Both lenses will give you excellent image quality. It really depends if you could use the half stop more of light the 1.8 gives you over 2.0 and if you prefer a little bit of a wider shot. If you said yes to both of these, then the Zeiss will be your better option.

Q: 2. What is the material of the lenses? Glass or plastic?

A: The body is metal, the hood is plastic and the lens is glass. It's a very solid build and it's a sharp lens.

Q: 3. dose this come with a lens cap and a rear cap?

A: Yes.

Q: 4. Is the focusing/aperture action on the FE 28/2 louder than other FE lenses? Or is this unique to the used copy I just purchased? Focusing at f2.0, my copy is surprisingly loud with a bit of vibration/roughness. Its similar to screw drive lenses. Considerably less stealth than any of the other FE lenses I've used (55/1.8, 90/2.8, 28-70 kit). I'm considering returning it, but wonder if another (new) copy would be similar. Others have a similar impression? Any thoughts appreciated.

A: I just tested mine and it is nearly silent - certainly no louder than my 35 or 55, in fact a touch quieter than the 35, but all are very quiet.

Q: 5. Does this focus to infinity?

A: yes it sure does! It's a very sharp lens and does focus fast and accurately from about 11.5 inches to infinity. This lens outperforms a lot of others - one of the sharpest sony makes and it's also one of the lowest priced. Can't recommend it enough. I pair it with the ultra wide 21mm adapter and get twice the use out of it. And I'm incredibly picky and a pixel nerd because I'm a retoucher and photographer by trade - so I don't say these things lightly. :)

Q: 6. Does it work with Sony VG-900?

A: Yes, the lens is compatible with the Sony VG-900.

Q: 7. Does the lens come with a lens shade?

A: Noo mine didnt

Q: 8. Does this lens support the steadyshot image stabilization when on an a6000?

A: No. And this is not the lens you would want for an A 6000. Quick Lesson. Steady Shot or image stabilization (IS) is a feature added to a camera, either in the body (In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)) or in the lens itself. The A 6000 does not have IBIS so you have to rely on purchasing lenses that do have it. For example, my favorite for my NEX 7 is the F 4 16-70 zoom that does have IS. (Note, the different manufacturers call image stabilization by different names. VR is Nikon. OSS is Sony, etc. If you want a pretty high quality prime with OSS made for the A6000 then the Sony F 1.8 50 mm OSS is the lens you want. Or wait til Sony comes out with an APS C camera that has IBIS ---

Q: 9. Thinking of putting this lens on my A7ii for use on a gimbal. Question 1: with the lens wide open, is the auto focus smooth and accurate enough to get good results following a moving person? Question 2: Will a variable ND filter fit on the lens along with the lens hood? Thanks very much.

A: Hi James, yes. The autofocus is smooth and accurate with the lens/aperture is wide open. -Anthony

Q: 10. Does this product come with both the 90 degree tube and the straight lens tube?

A: Yes, the AstrHori 18mm f/8 90-Degree Direct View Macro Probe Lens (Micro Four Thirds) comes with both lenses.

[75°] When I bought my A7RII, I was deciding what lenses I wanted to begin with. Since I formerly had an APS-C type Nikon dSLR, I had to part with my former fleet of lenses. I began with the Zeiss FE 55mm F1.8 lens. It's truly astounding, but it comes at a high cost. So I thought perhaps the next lens should be a little less strain on the wallet. The Sony FE 28mm F2 lens. This little lens is fairly lightweight, and also has exceptional build quality. Not being a Zeiss, I wasn't sure what I should expect from Sony. But they once again impressed me with their engineering. This is a solid lens, good build quality, and does not feel cheap at all. I have used it on several occasions now, and it has consistently provided stunning results when paired with the formidable capabilities of the a7.

[4.36 lb] I love the detail on this lens and taking some long exposure with an 8x ND filter the pictures came out great. My zeiss 35mm 1.4 is great but its huge. It's not great walking around with it. I found the color sharp and loads of detail using a full size sensor. Also for food shots, you can get a lot of the scene into the image and then just crop if needed. I think the 28mm is a fun focal length for everyday shooting. I will carry my zeiss 55 for anything more up close. Overall I couldnt be happier.

[f/13] I think everyone should have a Fixed Lens with a Wide Focal Range in their and this is a great starter lens for a reason price. I am not a pro by any means, but I feel like one when I see the results of the images when I use this lens.

[15 x 7.9 x 4.1"] Fast aperture, fast autofocus and sharp images for 200 grams or so. It looks bigger on the pictures, but performs really well. I use it for video on my Sony A7S II and I call this the Low Light Combo Monster :) F2 is really good for shooting at night and I haven't had issues with autofocus speed even with the A7S II's CDAF. I was used to Nikon DX format so it was a little wider than I expected but in a good way (so much so that I'm planning to use it for vlogging). Anyway, awesome lens for video from my experience.

[4.36 lb] I bought this to have as a nice walk around lens for my a6500. It performs very well in that regard and is not too big. The sharpness is also very good, no complaints. I like that you can make it wider with the optional Sony attachments (expensive though), but I won't do that unless I also have a FF body someday.

[Sony E] I work with the A7RII but I bought it more for my A6300 as a 42mm walk around lens. In the A6300 works great. Fast autofocus, sharp and accurate it was a great decision as a 50mm for my a6300, But i also test it in my A7RII and compare it with my FE 24-70 F4 zeiss. The 28mm is faster (f2.0) so you can have more blurred backgrounds, the sharpness is outstanding even in f/2.0, and great until F/11. Does have a noticeable barrel distortion but that is not so bad for me, because I shoot just in RAW and it is a one button fix. I think that for being cheap to keep sharpness they had to avoid the barrel distortion and some chromatic aberrations fixes. But in the end. A great great lens for the price. As we know the zeiss colors are more rich, but this little gem gets great results too, so if you are a RAW shooter you don't gonna have problems and gonna love this lens. But if you just use it to shoot JPG and not make any post in software maybe the barrel distortion and some chromatic aberrations (less than my Zeiss 85mm F/1.4 or 50mm F/1.4 or even the zeiss A mount 24-70 F/2.8) can be a negative point for you. For me it is jut Perfect!!!, remember that the Sony Zeiss distagon 35mm F/1.4 is big, bulky and heavy, and costs more than three times the 28mm, so depends of your final use, this can be your all around street lens for your APS-C or your full frame lightweight Prime wide angle lens. Great quality Sony cheap prime option!!

[f/13] Best bang for the buck full frame e-mount lens available right now. Retains sharpness throughout the center and edges and AF works well on it. Can be converted to a ultra wide or fish eye lens with the Sony converter attachments.

[15 x 7.9 x 4.1"] Works very well for getting into tight spaces. The lens is fairly sharp - not the sharpest, but offers good value in terms of probe lenses.

F40 requires a ton of light. You'll also want a motorized rig of sorts for any movement as the macro lens is very sensitive to small bumps.

All in all - good value compared to the Laowa. Only down side is it an APS-C lens, so you'll get some crop when on a full frame lens.

[Manual Focus] I bought this lens to use with my Sony Alpha a9. I needed something wide, prime, sharp, and light/compact for travels + run & gun shooting. I shoot fashion, beauty, and artistic portraits and this lens has been AWESOME for that. What I love about this lens is that it's fairly tiny, keeps the weight down. I pack this with my Sony FE Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 55mm F1.8 ZA & Sony FE 85mm F1.8 lenses. Not exactly a replacement for the true 35mm, but if you're looking for something with a wider aperture than the Sony FE Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm F2.8 ZA lens, this would it. It's very sharp even at f/2, and you can close it down to 2.8 to make it even sharper. The focus is quick and accurate as well, even in low-light from my experiences. The only challenge may be strong backlighting (like shooting the model in front of white sheers or with sun gleaming in the back around sunrise/sunset). The only thing I would note for your awareness about this is that it is has some distortion to it, so I recommend shooting in RAW when using this (though ideally you should always be shooting in RAW), so that you can use profile correction in Lightroom to fix it. It'll look great after you do that! For the price, quality, and performance, this is a must-have in your kit. =
