This white 30-55° Altman Phoenix Zoom Ellipsoidal Light 30-55° Whitefrom Altman Phoenix Zoom Ellipsoidal Light 30-55° Whiteis a multi-purpose focusing zoom light, particularly useful in theatrical productions or events when the needed spread of light for a particular area or scene may change frequently. This unit has a useful medium zoom range negating the need to swop out one unit for another with a different degree lens barrel. The Phoenix features four locking stainless steel shutters and a 360° rotating lens barrel, which allows for advanced light-shaping capabilities.

This rugged, all-metal unit has been designed to withstand the rigors of traveling event production. Annoying light leaks from the fixture have been minimized so you won't have to worry about any stray light illuminating unwanted parts of the scenery. The Phoenix Zoom ellipsoidals are ideal for theatres and long-throw venues such as opera houses. Recognizing that these units can produce a lot of heat during prolonged operation it has been fitted with comfortable, heat-resistant handles. This unit can be ordered with either a G9.5 or HPL lamp socket and uses lamps up to a maximum of 750W.

Q: 1. What is the weight limit to this? It looks like the limiting factor is the clamp? Could I hang 4 360Qs?

A: Altman does not have a specific weight limit for this ladder but it can support up to four 360Q lights.But with any light it is best to use a safety cable on each one.

Q: 2. What is the weight capacity this can hold?

A: The load limit is 665 lb.

Q: 3. what is the maximum throw distance?

A: There is no maximum throw. It relates to how bright you want the light to be in relation to the throw and how wide you need the light to cover.The light can use different wattage bulbs and in combination of the zoom will give you brighter and dimmer light.The photometric on the light can be down loaded at this link http://bit.ly/1Seqefo.

Q: 4. I would like to mount this to a wall - cant tell if that is possible based on the photo?

A: The design of this light and most like this, hang from the ceiling. They can get to hot and next to a wall. And the mount is not made for wall attachment but for hanging as well.

Q: 5. Will this stand accept an adapter for standard 5/8th inch microphone clips or booms? Thanks!

A: The top of the stand is 5/8. Items that have a 5/8 receiver should fit.

Q: 6. Is this flicker free when used for video?

A: The Altman Pegasus 8 5000K LED Fresnel (8", Black Enclosure) has an adjustable PWM frequency up to 20Khz to avoid flicker on camera. However, it depends on what camera you are using.

Q: 7. What's the Kelvin for this light?

A: This ellipsoidal uses tungsten halogen lamps which give a color temperature of 3250 Kelvin. One of those lamps would be the Ushio HPL Lamp (575W/120V) B&H # USHPL575. Please see the image below.

Q: 8. Can this instrument accommodate 100 watt lamp?

A: The PAR 30 can use up to a 75 watt lamp.

Q: 9. Can this light be left on continuously?

A: This would really depend on the details of what is meant by "continuously." For a variety of reasons an LED option would likely be the better solution for long-term use. Q: 10. Page says this is for "European Voltage", but product specs says its 100 to 240 VAC which is US compatible. Which is it?

A: Standard voltage in the European Union is 230V, so the CHAUVET PROFESSIONAL Ovation Rêve E-3 Multicolor LED Ellipsoidal, which is compatible with 100-240V, is compatible with US and European electrical systems.

[21 lb (9.5 kg)] This fixture is built very well. Not quite like tank, but fairly close to it. A note of caution: this unit is very hot. A 750 watt bulb will be hot, I assumed. But I didn't realize the cowling/fixture would get as hot as it gets. Duh. But wow, it is bright. I have to be very careful where I set up this fixture. However, this is my first foray away from inexpensive LED lights. A very important lesson learned, but well worth the money. 5

[ETL & cETL] The 65Q is a high quality, well-built Fresnel which is what we've all come to expect from Altman. Its got a nice spot ranging from wide flood to narrow spot with the spotlight adjustment on bottom. Spots are not defined like a focused ellipsoidal, more like a Par 64. With a 500 watt bulb and set of barn doors I was able to spot a presenter on a stage for video and completely isolate the on-stage projection screen from any spillover light. 5

[G9.5] This light comes in handy when you need to pattern a larger room, like a conference room. it has the strength and creates a nice texture and brings any room to life,especially lighting 2 camera interviews...it does get very hot making it difficult to pack up without a cool off period...but still a great light for interviews....works great with a large dimmer..... 5

[ETL & cETL] I use this fixture for adding patterns to backgrounds for interviews, etc. It's a workhorse and gets the job done every time. The fixture itself is a little bulky, (far less bulky than the full size) so you are not going to shove this thing in your light kit with LED panels, but it's rugged enough to carry around on its own without worrying about it getting banged up. It couldn't be easier to use, the entire fixture can be loaded with a lamp and adjusted, quickly and without the use of any tools. Set it to 50 and you can fill a large wall from a short distance. I like to tweak the zoom adjustment to soften the projection a bit. The beam is cooler than most other tungsten fixtures at this wattage because of the dichroic reflector, so it doesn't kill your patterns/gels as quickly as other/older fixtures. Grab one of these, a pattern holder (does not come with fixture) and some M-size gobos and you can make a white wall far less boring. 5

[ETL & cETL] This Altman light is really good quality, but everyone knows Altman makes good stuff, anyway. With a 500 watt bulb and a set of barn doors I am able to light a stage for video and spot the presenter with really good separation of the spot from the on-stage video projector screen. It is a Fresnel so the spot isn't clearly defined on the edges like an ellipsoidal, but if you need to isolate a spot this will do it. The barn doors on front make it that much easier. In wide flood mode it produces a nice, even spread - kind of like a Par 64 can. 5

[21 lb (9.5 kg)] These lights are truly a workhorse of a Chief Lighting Technician's tool kit... especially if you have overhead grids. Great for mood lighting, dimmable, and they cool off around 15 minutes after being shut off. 5
