[Gray] The color saturation and range on this unit is superb. I was blown away by the spectrum covered by this unit. In particular the super deep reds and blues where other LED units fall short. The controls are precise and you can dial in about any color imaginable.

The IP rating allows use in damp environments which is also a huge plus, not something you will find in many competing lamps or soft lights. I also like the fact that you can use profoto modifiers as necessary.

[21.815 lb] Having seen this reviewed by Andrew at Gaffer & Gear on Youtube I knew this was one on the items to add to my grip truck. With great photo metrics and output this is a heavy hitter for my small scale shoots where M18's are out of the running.

My use is VERY limited at the moment so I'll need to come back and update this. If you're looking for a detailed spec review look for it on Youtube.


Build quality seems excellent so far. Comparing this to Aperture 1200d I could see there being some more visible signs of scratching and wear on the outside by I wouldn't doubt this unit can last me 5-10 years. (This is if the tech does not get outpaced)


A small complaint is having the physical controls on the back of the head. I would prefer this to be in the ballast but they do give you a small remote and the phone app works just fine.



Only problem i did have was the first order I received came with a broken wheel on the case. I got a free replacement case however that does concern me that the wheels have the potential to break with time. We shall see...

[21.815 lb] The FL-28 mates to the 1200 and 2400. It's frankly too small on the 24 but is perfect for the 1200. Output diminishes a lot over running a 45° reflector, but the fresnel produces a lovely beam that feels more like the sun - harder shadow and less fringing. I love the build quality and it isn't gigantic like the FL-35.

[Gray] Solid quality, great lighting kit. Top-notch fresnel set for portable use. Only downside is kit weighs 56 pounds. Wish they could have shed 6 pounds for airplane travel! Still worth its weight.

[Gray] The light is awesome - built solid and barely heats up at all. IOS app is somewhat better than the Android app at this point, but that may change with updates. Our experience with Hive customer service was amazing. Super quick response and follow through. They set the bar for how customer service should be done! I want to purchase more devices from these guys, just because I know they will be there should I ever have issues. Again, great product, incredible service!

[21.815 lb] I've now been using this light regularly for the last 5 months and can confidently say it's paying itself off.



Few things of note...


- Built quality is holding and I'm happy with how its working. The most minor complaint is that it can be a tight fit to get the lamphead onto the Yoke but it does give me confidence that it's not going to come lose.

- The Carry case that is made of hardened plastic covered with fabric is working great. I've rented this light a few times and haven't developed any tears. Years of use may prove me wrong but it's still in good shape.
- Phone app: I know many people won't believe me but I've been quite happy with the Nanlite app and using it on set. I own 8 different Nanlite fixtures and having everything working on a single phone app is really helpful.
- Output: As for the usefulness of this fixture in Studio and on set environments... I use this in combination with x2 720b's, x2 500's, and a few other smaller lights and this holds its place with being able to fill any space I need to light and very often being set outside a window to fill up an interior daytime scene. It's got enough punch that I'm able fill a 8x8 with Magic Cloth and have enough output for the camera.

[Gray] This light is the best in the game, period. We have two of these lights that we use for every production, no questions asked. They're small and compact and are a must if you travel often for productions. It's portable and can fit in any pelican alongside the rest of your camera gear. One light with a chimera soft box can serve as the perfect key and/or fill, and the wide range of colors makes it really versatile for any interview environment.


Do be aware, it can overheat. We had one that had the o-ring around the LED on the front face melt off in a really humid interview environment. Hive quickly replaced it though, no questions asked.

[21.815 lb] Had a chance to try out the 200-c and I was impressed with the quality of light and how seamlessly the app gives you control of all the full color settings. A big bonus was the ability to use pro photo accessories with this unit!
