[0.35 lb] Yes, it's Arca Swiss. And yes, it costs some dosh. And yes, it is really well thought out and made. You know the equation - cost, quality, design - you get to pick 2.


A good tripod is a pretty tough thing - very few moving parts and you can drag it through the brush and trees and aside from a few scratches (the more romantically inclined call them 'noble scars'), they will work fine - one reason many will strap them to the side of a pack and set off. Tripod heads usually have more moving parts and need to be babied a bit more - you don't want dust and grime working their way into ball heads. Best to pack the head inside the pack. But it is a nuisance to keep screwing and unscrewing the head onto the tripod.


Enter this handy little thing from AS. This makes the 'getting the head onto the tripod' thing as easy as getting your camera (if it has a quick release plate) into the head (if it has a space to accept and lock the quick release plate). Essentially the same idea - think of it as putting a plate on the tripod head and a space to accept and lock the plate on the tripod. Except this is made by Arca-Swiss. Everything therefore mates just so and locks positively, no slack, no wobble, no squeek, no screams of photographers getting fingers pinched... Like a good quick release system, it fades from view. Oh yes, it will cost you. But you pick the 2 out of the 3 (cost, quality, design)...

[Aluminum] I have one of these on my tripod, my slider, and my cart and can effortlessly switch between any of them quickly.


It's not that it takes impossibly long to unscrew a tripod head the old fashioned way, but the added confidence of doing a quick change and not worrying if you need to switch back. It's well worth it to not be constantly fiddling while the client is sitting there waiting for you.

[Lever] I recently bought the Nodal Ninja 6 (love it). BUT, I have an L-bracket on my camera for all the obvious reasons and don't want to take it off when I use the Nodal Ninja. The DPLEX-50 lets me clamp to the Nodal Ninja rail, rotate 90 degrees and clamp to the camera L-bracket. I just have to make sure I center the camera lens over the rail, then everything works perfectly.

[0.35 lb] I use these Quick Links to move an Arca-Swiss C1 Cube geared head among various tripods, mostly for macro work. They make mounting and removing the head a breeze. The setup is rock solid when properly installed.

[Aluminum] Do you need it? I don't know. Do you want it? Most definitely!! I was hesitant before pulling the trigger on this. I considered how lazy you'd have to be to not want to screw you tripod head onto tripod legs but in the same breath, a wise person once said "buy once, cry once"
