Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lense compatible with the Sony a 6000 ?

A: The Tokina atx-m 33mm f/1.4 X Lens for Sony E is compatible with the Sony a6000 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 2. Is it weather sealed?

A: Unfortunately Venus Optics Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens for FUJIFILM X is not weather sealed.

Q: 3. Does it works with Panasonic Lumix Gh5-2 and G9 Cameras?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Zero-D S35 7.5mm T/2.9 Cine Lens (FUJI X, Feet/Meters) is not compatible with MFT-mount cameras.

Q: 4. Is the Nikon Z7 compatible with this manual focus lens? Besides no image stabilization, are other capabilities lost?

A: As the Venus Optics Laowa Argus FF 28mm T1 Cine Lens (Nikon Z) is a fully manual lens, aperture and focus would need to be controlled manually as well. You may also lose any focus confirmation features built into the camera itself.

Q: 5. Is it 25mm on Canon mirrorless full frame R6? Thanks

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens (Canon RF) is a lens designed for APS-C sized sensors. On the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera this will still perform like a 25mm, but with heavy vignetting. It may make most sense to use it in the 1.6x crop on that camera.

Q: 6. the shiny bit at the end of the lens, which goes into the camera - can this be removed (I see there are some screws)?

A: The silver bit at the end of the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 45mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Sony E is how you mount the lens to the camera.

Q: 7. Is this lens weather resistant like the Fujinon XF 35mm F2 WR?

A: Unfortunately, this lens is not weather-sealed.

Q: 8. How can this be used when there is no RF APC format camera?

A: The Canon full frame RF mount cameras can be set to a crop mode and Canon does make a Cinema RF mount camera that is crop frame such as the C70: https://bhpho.to/2SES3VW

Q: 9. How much focus breathing is there on this lens?

A: There is no specific information as to how much focus breathing the Tokina atx-m 33mm f/1.4 X Lens for FUJIFILM X has. But it does seem to be very little.

Q: 10. Does it cover the c70 sensor?

A: This lens does cover the C70 sensor. This is an APS-C lens.

[T11] I bought the first Mitakon RF 35mm and I loved the look with soft, warm, quasi-vintage vibe and delightful bokeh. When the V2 came out with the 20mm and 50mm, I've decided to get them all for a complete set. The breathing is not prominent and the look is truly remarkable. I'd love to see a wider and a longer lens added to the set.

[T1] The subject was nothing special... just an interesting looking tree trunk. My first photo with a new Tokina 33mm on a Fuji X-T2 was a tree.
The Tokina 33mm is the sharpest, most natural lens I've ever seem. Images it captures are stunning.

[77 mm] Not for everyone, as they say, but surprisingly good for the price for what it is. If you want it for super thin depth of field and creamy smooth bokeh you may be happy. Stopped down, sharpness is good, especially in the center. Works very well for urban scenes at night as well and keeps the ISO down. At the current price of $650 I'm very pleased, but at list of $999 maybe less so. If you want an all around 35mm there are better choices, mostly slower by a stop or more, but then with AF or at greater expense. Beautifully built as well.

[FUJIFILM X] This is my first Laowa lens, but it won't be my last. I get that this is a photo lens. And that real cinema lenses have gears for motors etc, but the focus throw on this lens is so long that it makes focusing handheld (and with its shallow depth of field) a breeze.

You can break down your rig as light as possible, as I've done in the photo I've attached and use focus peaking or the manual scales on the lens to focus.

It's built incredibly well. It's all metal, but lightweight and portable, so you're inspired to take it anywhere you just want to document life as it happens around you. The focal length is a little tight on crop sensor, but I find it's the sweet spot to give just enough compression between your subject and background. There's just something about 33/35 mm lens on s35 sensors that look really good.

On the Red Komodo- X, this is about 43mm in 6k 17:9 mode. It;s also APO, which helps reduce chromatic aberration (the purple-ish/greenish fringing around edges in bright conditions). Yes there's still some, but nowhere near as much as you'd expect for an aperture around f/0.95 aperture.

The images look really good, too. For some reason, I feel like there's some barrel distortion... which I love, or maybe just some kind of 3d pop for images framed in the center. I can't explain it, but there's a lovely character to this lens.

I have an R6 Mark II, which is full frame, and this won't work without heavy vignetting on the corners since the image circle doesn't cover full frame cameras. Again, this lens is made only for crop factor (The CF on the side of the lens) cameras (aps-c and super 35,) On full frame or anything else, you'll need to use a digital tele converter or crop-in in post (which ultimately reduces resolution.)

Anyway, hope this helps someone!

[T1] I have a selection of native Fuji lenses but I wanted to explore large aperture lenses. First I bought the Laowa 65 mm macro which had superlative resolution and 2:1 magnification. What a pearl! So, I thought let's get the 25 mm lens that was more appealing for me than the 33 mm version for several reasons. I have been extremely satisfied with the lens. It has quite good resolution and contrast at wide open and it just improves to excellent closing down a bit to 2-2.8. I like the color reproduction of the lens also. The FF equivalent of 37 mm fits my needs quite well since it is a bit wider than regular lenses. Chromatic aberration does exist but it is nothing that serious. Flare problems on the other hand can be quite annoying but it is handable. I just avoid direct sunshine what usually I do because all lenses to a certain degree suffer from flare problems. During night photos be careful about light sources on the periphery of the frame or on the horizon. There is quite heavy chroma. Some reviews have made a big issue of it but it had not bothered me too much. The only interesting thing about this lens is its focusing since it can acquire focus at 2 distinct locations. I have never seen this before. Their manual actually claims that multiple floating focusing can occur. Maybe I have a defective floating focusing system...writing to Laowa don't expect an answer...All the above included I love the lens: it has great resolution, sharp images and the lens itself is just beautiful! Not the mention it is the best f/0.95 lens!

[33mm] This lens has stayed on my z50 since I got it about a month ago and think it will continue to stay there. I love the razor thin focus, the bokeh, the lens flare. I like the price and that it’s equivalent to a 50mm on a full frame camera. Since it’s manual, It’s not for everyone and every situation, but it’s really nice for more mindful photography.

[9] These lenses have a constant 1.5x squeeze factor, which gives consistent results across the entire focus range and makes for reliable de-squeezing in post. Other affordable Anamorphic lens brands do not have a constant squeeze factor. This lens is clean with minimal chromatic aberration only at the very lowest T-stop. It is incredibly lightweight which is useful in run and gun productions. I cant speak for the PL mount, as those may have a bit more heft to them. Flaring is very gentle on the silver version and slightly more aggressive on the blue and amber versions. You cant go wrong with this lens. See attached example.

[33mm] This lens has excellent sharpness and small size, I really like it. I listed the information for the attached picture.
f/1.8, 1/12800s, ISO=125.

Highly recommended

[Super35/APS-C] I love this lens! I love the long slow focus - it makes it so much easier to get the exact focus I want. Sure, it's not fast, but that's not why I got a manual focus lens. So far, the images I'm getting from this lens are great and I look forward to getting more lenses from Venus Optics!
