Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where would I find other 8000 series capsules to use on this model?

A: According to the Manufacturer, there are no other capsule options for this microphone model at this time.

Q: 2. Is it good for instruments, like MKE 2? does it work with rode wireless go?

A: The sound quality of this is very similar to the MKE2, but it's omnidirectional pickup may not be best for all instrument micing situations. This would be compatible with the Rode Wireless Go, as it uses the same 3.5mm wiring as most Sennheiser transmitters.

Q: 3. can this be adapted to connect to my mixer? Is it compatible with phantom power?

A: You can use an adapter such as the Rode VXLR Plus (B&H # ROVXLRP) to connect the Sennheiser MKE Essential omnidirectional lavalier microphone to your mixer. The MKE Essential requires plug-in power and the VXLR Plus adapter can be used to convert the 3.5mm locking plug to XLR and it also converts phantom power from the mixer to plug-in power for the mic.

Q: 4. I have one 8020, if I want to get a pair, is it better to buy a pair or buy another one, i guess my question is, does the single version makes any difference with the pair version?

A: In terms of matching capsules, it is more ideal to purchase the Sennheiser MKH 8020 Compact Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone as a set, however purchasing two individual microphones will still provide great results when used as a pair.

Q: 5. Does this mic work with the Tascam DR-10L Pro recorder?

A: The Sennheiser MKE Essential Omnidirectional Microphone with 3.5mm Connector is compatible with the Tascam DR-10L Pro Field Recorder.

Q: 6. How does this compare to the ME 2-II microphone (which came with my G4 wireless system)? The original mic has gone bad so I need to replace it and am trying to determine which mic is best for documentary filmmaking between this one, ME2 and MKE2 (which is really outside of my budget currently).

A: This mic is designed for use on the stage and has some features particular to that aplication, like more flexable cords, higher SPL levels and sweat restance. For shooting documentary footage the ME-2 would be a better choice.

Q: 7. Can I put more than one of these in a room?

A: Yes you can put more than one Sennheiser MEB 102 Omnidirectional Boundary Microphone in a room.

Q: 8. Need a single XLR microphone that picks up multiple speakers on a stage to feed into my camera. Will this work?

A: If your camera has XLR inputs that will provide 48 volt phantom power the MKH 8020 will record a wide area of sound. Without knowing your exact set-up and usage I can not say for sure if this would provide adequate coverage.

Q: 9. Does this lavalier works with the senheiser AVx wireless system ?

A: Yes, the MKE Essential does work with Sennheiser's AVX wireless bodypack transmitters.

Q: 10. How far away from a person speaking are the effective?

A: The MEB 102 will be effective up to a distance of about 10'. However, depending on how loud the subjects project, and the input gain on your mixer or recorder, that may vary.

[0.25 lb] A small compact mic that has great audio for 2 people. Also the mute button is green when on and red when off which the Board really likes.

[Mono] Great mics for near field recording. They sound great as a stereo pair on Bands and Orchestras.

[Mono] Yes, there are better mics at $400. There are also much cheaper mics that are almost as good. But this is a great mid-tier option. I don't worry too much about placement, it always seems to do a good job with pickup and not getting external fabric, wind, etc.

[Omnidirectional] These are some fantastic microphones. Ive used them as a spaced pair on an upright piano in a less-than-ideal room, and they picked up the source sound flawlessly! The sound is full, rich, detailed, and balanced just the right way without any EQ. Highly recommended!

[0.25 lb] I have only used this mic once so far. It was outside on a very windy day for a wedding ceremony. This mic performed leaps and bounds better than Sennheiser's other 2 entry level mics. Don't waste your time with those other mics and upgrade to this one or better. I think this mic sounded great after rolling the highs down a bit and was surprisingly good at dealing with excessive wind.

[0.25 lb] It will work flawlessly in any environmental conditions. You'll usually need a low cut filter, it's very sensitive at low frequencies. If you're capturing ambiences in windy conditions this combined with a small Cyclone is probably your best choice. The only negative is that you'll need to learn how to tame the low end on this microphone.
