Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the main panel that opens to access gear easily stay open, or do you need to keep holding it open while loading/unloading gear? The Lowepro ProTactic will lay open on its own, which makes loading/unloading easy. I'm trying to compare the two.

A: If you fully unzip it, the flap will stay open.

Q: 2. Will this hold Canon 600 F4 with camera attached?

A: The Vanguard Alta Sky 68 Camera Backpack (Dark Gray) can hold the Canon RF 600mm f/4 L IS USM Lens attached to the R5, but it will be very tight fit. It would not fit with the lens attached to the R5C.

Q: 3. I have a very large tripod (30 when fully compressed) so I am curious how it will fit on the Alta SKY 51D. How far BELOW the bottom of the bag does the pouch hang down to support the feet of the tripod?

A: In that case tripod maybe exceed from the top as that side is adjustable. Maybe less than 8 . The bag is awesome, you will not have a problem.

Q: 4. Will this fit a d850 with grip and a 24-70 f2.8 attached to it? Or do you need to lose the grip?

A: The Vanguard Alta Sky 45D Camera Backpack (Dark Gray) will hold the D850 with a battery grip and the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Q: 5. will a phantom 4 pro fit in the alta sky 45D? or i better get the 51D instead? thanks

A: A DJI Phantom 4 Pro can fit into the Alta Sky 45D.

Q: 6. Will it hold a SONY 600mm F4 GM? And will it be allowed as carry-on in domestic USA flights?

A: The Sony 600mm would be a very tight fit; the pack is a little larger than the guidelines for carry-on baggage, but it pays to check with the specific airline you are traveling on--their requirements vary.

Q: 7. Is the waist strap removable or does it store in the bag?

A: The band is not removable and it stays attach to the bag.

Q: 8. I travel for work, and need a carry on backpack that can fit under a seat, carry a laptop with accessories and moderate camera system. My idea choice would carry all of it on the plane, except tripod. After work when travelling I could leave laptop at hotel and transition to a camera bag. Most bags only serve one need well. How is the 51D for this purpose?

A: This bag will not fit under the airline seat.

Q: 9. Liter size of 45D?

A: I would have to say, I have not seen camera bag volume ever listed in any manner. Here are the exterior dimensions. By minor subtraction of each dimension, you can ascertain the interior dimensions and if you wish to calculate it, a rough idea of the volume in liters. 12.25 x 9 x 19.5 / 31.11 x 22.86 x 49.53 cm

Q: 10. Does this bag fit the Nikkor 600mm f4 on the z8 body? Is it overhead stow compatible?

A: The Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S Lens (Nikon Z) attached fits in the Vanguard Alta Sky 68 Camera Backpack (Dark Gray). Most airlines have a 22 x 14 x 9" bag size limit, so the Vanguard Alta Sky 68 should fit. It is best to check with your airline.

[4.29 lb] Comfortably holds my Sony FE 200-600 with A6500 attached to it, along with my Sony FEE 70-200/4 with A7RII attached to it very snugly separated by the dividers that come with the bag. In addition, I am also able to comfortably carry my Sigma 24-70 Art, Sony 20/1.8 along with my full filter and cleaning kit. Perfect bag for landscape and wildlife outing in one backpack. It is a heavy bag, but I feel my gear is well protected. from the elements and can take some serious abuse without losing it's external appearance. I am also able to tether my tripod with the gimbal attached.

[Yes] I am so sorry to see low rating for this bag, this bag is the beast, it have so much space for a lot of equipment. In laptop part I can put crane 3 lab, that's how much its have space.
Padding is great. After 4 years and over 600 shootings, its in great condition. Only what i dont like is yellow color, and back closing comartment get little dirty from peak design strap. Only what I would like to change is front, no one use old types of drones, maybe to get some more pocket, and to put some pockets on inside part of back compartment.
Its can be very heavy when i put a lot of stuff inside, but straps are the best that i ever experience in some bag.
inside bag:
Rolleiflex
Nikon FE2
Gopro11
Nikon Z8, Z6, D750
Tamron 15-30 f2.8 G2
Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2
Sigma 85 1.4 ART
Nikon 35 1.8 S
Nikon 60mm macro
Peak design tech pouch, glasses, medics, wallet, keys.

And there is not so big problem with opening the bag, zippers are also great. You definitely cant go wrong with this bag.

All recommendation.

[4.29 lb] I ordered this pack after countless hours of research on good camera backpack systems. I have set it up to handle my DSLR with a 600mm lens attached, and have access to my secondary DSLR with my wide angle lens through the side access pocket. the whole bag seems to be well thought out and very functional. It feels good on my shoulders while fully loaded, and seems to be sturdy enough for long day hikes. If I had to say one way to improve it, it would be to have more standard dividers, to set up how I wanted I had to get a little creative with the dividers provided.

[Gray] After purchasing several backpacks and trying to find some of the suits me, I finally came across and this Alta sky by Vanguard. It is by far one of the most comfortable backpacks I have ever worn, even fully loaded to the gills. I am an over the road trucker and I am pretty limited on space inside my truck, but this backpack makes it easy for me to organize all my gear, including my larger lenses. It is extremely versatile with plenty of storage space and is extremely easy to rearrange all the compartments within the interior. The added bonus of the exterior tripod carrying system makes it well worth it as well. Definitely one of the best purchases I have ever made.

[Universal] I chose this bag for a trip to Alaska. It's right at the max dimensions for Alaska Airlines carry-ons, but at no point did the airline staff feel a need to measure it — they just let me tote it. I stuffed the bag with a Canon R5 with an EF 600 ii lens attached, a second R5 with an EF 100-400 ii attached, a 16-35 ii lens, 1.4x and 2x extenders, and a dozen spare batteries. Both cams have battery grips. I didn't weigh the whole kit, but it feels plenty heavy schlepping around the airport and on the trails. The belly strap helps a little. Still, I had everything I needed, and the bag is well-padded. I felt very much at ease that my gear was protected in the carry-on bin, in the back of the floatplane, and on my shoulders.

[Gray] This is a great bag for its purpose. I use it to transport my Nikon Z9 and the Nikon Z 800mm PF lens. There is an extra (removable) piece of padding at the bottom of the bag. With that out, my lens, with the camera attached, will fit with the lens hood in the ready-to-go position. Opening the bag and getting the camera out is fairly quick. On occasion, I've attached a lens (in a lens case) to the side of the bag in case I needed a normal lens. Typically my Z 24-120.

The bag is comfortable to wear. I haven't walked miles in it (yet) at one time, but for the short distances, it was fine. It has a decent amount of storage for small items. I'm 6' and have the adjustment set in the top position. It might be a tad short, as the waist belt is just above my waist in the back. Didn't seem to be a problem though.

I also like the way this bag looks. My subjective opinion.

Overall, I highly recommend this bag. It holds what I need and does so with comfort.
