Q: 1. Am I correct in assuming that you can store digital photo images on these? And that they far and away surpass the 700mb? Thank you!

A: Yes, they hold up to 25GB of any kind of data you want to write to them (including photos). 25GB is about 25,000mb). However, be aware you will need a Blu-ray burner that supports M-DISC media to burn these discs. If you have a Blu-ray burner that doesn't specifically support M-DISC media, you may be able to download a firmware update from the manufacturer to support M-DISC media. If the drive doesn't come with burning software, you can get free software on the web that will do the job.We have found that these are a good option if your internet service (like ours) is insufficient to upload photos to cloud backup, as long as you have a place off site to store them (we put them in our safe deposit box). However, because these discs will hold A LOT of pictures, just make sure to create a folder structure/index that will allow you to find photos in the future (at minumum, by year and/or subject). A little planning before you create the discs will save you tons of time in the future in the event you need to use them to locate specific photos.

A: Currently Blu-ray disks are manufactured in three formats -- single layer which has a capacity of 25 GB of storage, a Dual layer format which stores 50 GB of information and triple layer which will hold 100 GB of information storage capacity.
