Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If the lens is closed down to a t/3.9 will there be any exposure change when zooming in or out?

A: Yes. The following unit offers maximum aperture of T2.95 and a minimum aperture of T3.95.

Q: 2. Does it has a built in focal extender like the other canon servo zooms ?

A: No, the Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95-3.9 Lens (Canon RF) does not have a built in extender.

Q: 3. Does this new 15-120mm lens have the macro feature of its predecessor the Canon 17-120mm? Or does it only have the extender feature?

A: The Canon CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens with 1.5x Extender (PL Mount) (B&H# CAE15120PL) does indeed feature a macro function.

Q: 4. How can I use this lens on a Panasonic EVA1 camera?

A: The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 (EF Mount) needs to be powered from the 12-pin Hirose cable when mounted to the Panasonic AU-EVA1 Compact 5.7K Super 35mm Cinema Camera. Consider using the IDX System Technology C-ZLPRO D-Tap to Hirose Cable for Canon CINE-SERVO Zoom Lenses (12.5") and the SWIT 65Wh/7.2V Panasonic VBR59 Battery with D-Tap and USB Type-C I/O together to power the battery and lens simultaneously. See the links below: https://bhpho.to/2qdi0eg https://bhpho.to/3IHX7PP

Q: 5. What is the minimum focus of this lens when using it's macro adjustment?

A: Canon says when the lens is set to 17mm, and the Marco button is depressed, it will focus to 10 cm of the front glass element.

Q: 6. Does it have image stabilization, and if so how many stops?

A: No, the Canon CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens with 1.5 Extender (EF Mount) does not have image stabilization support built in.

Q: 7. The 15-120mm focal range is on full frame sensor or super 35 sensors? If so , when using the extender, will it give you even more reach than the 22-180mm if using it on a super 35 camera ?

A: The Canon CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens Kit with SS-41-IASD Servo (PL) is a full frame lens. Using it on a Super 35mm will make the lens around 1.4 times longer. And using the built in 1.5x teleconverter with that lens on a Super 35mm sensor will add another 1.5 times magnification to the lens.

Q: 8. Would this lens be limited on a Canon R5C in any way?

A: The Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95-3.9 Lens (Canon RF) is made to be used on Super35mm cameras, so when it is used on the Canon EOS R5C Mirrorless Cinema Camera it must be used in the super35mm or super16mm modes to not encounter vignetting.

Q: 9. Can the canon CNZx17 KAS s Lens be used with the new mark II Canon C100 to shoot in 4k format???

A: The Canon C100 (both Mark I and Mark II) only offer an EF lens mount, not PL. You would want to choose the Canon CN7x17 (EF Mount version - B&H # CAE17120EF) to use this lens with the Canon C100. However, the C100 only records in HD resolution (1920 x 1080) at it's highest quality. A compatible 4K Canon camcorder would be the Canon C500 (B&H # CAC500PL).

Q: 10. Will autofocus work on a C500 Mark II Super35 mode

A: Yes. The following lens will retain autofocus with the following system canon C-series.

[Super35/APS-C] This lens had been purchased to be used with a Canon C300 Mk III. It is sharp, renders beautifully and is relatively lightweight for a zoom of this magnitude. The accompanying grip, however, represents a terrible mismatch for the C300 with its own grip attached, as they come so physically close as to make either one unusable. I have removed the lens grip and have placed it back into the box that it had arrived in and I suspect that it will never see the light of day. It really is a shame, since the lens grip allows for modulated zooms that excel when compared to the controls mounted on the lens itself. In summary, I would give 5 stars for the lens, and and 0 for the grip.

[Canon RF] This lens is a lot lighter than I thought it would be. What is not to like about a parfocal lens? The lens is expensive, but it is so much easier to use and allows the user to just concentrate on the shot or the story.

[112 mm] Saw this in Africa recently on a BBC truck on the same Canon CN20x50 Cine Lens. Mine at home did not have the handle that is made in Germany. So I called the company and they said I could get it at B&H. Wow not really a surprise since B&H has everything! Anyway this handle is a quality piece of gear for the lens. Screws are included along with simple instructions. Makes the lens much easier and, more importantly, safer to handle. Like I said, a must!

[Yes] I've had this lens for a while now and can say it's my favorite lens. Canon fixed the biggest issue I had which was a warm color shift on the 17-120. No color shifts on this lens! Flip on the built in extender and the lens can be ready for full frame. It's really the perfect lens for reality, sports, doc and most everything else.

[112 mm] As a documentary cinematographer, I'm always on the lookout for the ideal lens that can handle any situation. Traveling light is essential since we typically operate with a small crew. Previously, I used the Canon 15.5-47mm and 30-105mm lenses and often found myself stressed about selecting the most suitable lens for unpredictable documentary scenes. I was tempted to pickup a used 17-120 given the low price point, but when renting one, I found the 17mm just not wide enough for certain situations and often switched back to my 15.5-47mm. The new 15-120mm lens has been a revelation. The additional width at the wide end is transformative, yet it still offers significant telephoto capability. This lens handles everything from vérité-style shooting and B-roll to interviews, providing comprehensive coverage.

The build quality and weight of the lens are ideal for shoulder mounted shooting, and it performs well even when shooting from the hip. I use it with my Canon C300 Mark III, and it's safe to say I've found a perfectly balanced rig that's ergonomically satisfying and well-suited for my needs. I recommend having the lens calibrated at a Canon Cine Service Center. While it arrives in spec from B&H, the Canon techs can further calibrate its center sharpness. This lens is a game changer for documentary filmmaking.

[112 mm] Get over the price, it is worth it. Paired with my C300ii this lens wonderful. All functions work through the EF mount including autofocus (when needed). Powered via DTap to a Vmount. Has not left my C300ii body since mounted, except for a firmware update. Really has become a all in one lens for us. Great on the shoulder ENG. Great out sticks for interviews. Even does well on a dolly remote zooming.

[31.4 mm] Wonderful lens for the Blackmagic URSA Mini G2! Can control focus, iris and zoom using LANC thru the lens mount or ATEM software. Only bummer is the T4.4...would have been better with 2.8...but fantastic lens nonetheless.

[Yes] This lens had been purchased for a Canon C300 MK III, and it did not disappoint. It is sharp, contrasty and quick to focus in AF mode. My only complaint relates to the included zoom rocker grip. If this lens is to be used with the aforementioned cine camera, the grip will physically impede the use of the camera's own grip and it will have to be removed. I've replaced the zoom rocker grip with a 3rd party zoom control that completely solves the problem.

[Canon RF] We do a lot of Cinema and Broadcast style shooting and this lens does both. We were concerned initially with the 180 degree focus rotation, but we got used to it fast. The macro function is amazing! We are using it with the Sony F55. When we use the 2K center crop setting, the lens FOV essentially becomes a 35-240mm lens. It's light and don't notice a lot of breathing. I can't recommend this lens enough. With the F55 it powers the servo without any additional cables and passes meta data.
