The umbrella can be used to bounce the light from your monolights, strobes, and more, but is most effective when your light is fired through it to create a large, soft source of light that can be used for a variety of applications. The included backing, with a black exterior and silver interior, provides an additional level of control over the directionality of the beam of your light and helps limit spill on set.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I know it's padded, but is it padded enough to check into an airline without damaging my lightstands? Don't need anything ballistics-grade, just needs to have enough protection where things won't break.

A: This bag is somewhat padded but not enough for baggage handlers. I would recommend a hard padded case.

Q: 2. How do you remove the black backing?

A: You would pull the tips of the arms on the umbrella to remove the black backing.

Q: 3. Can this umbrella be used with 500 wattt tungsten continuous lighting?

A: Yes this umbrella can be used with a tungsten light up to 500 watts.

Q: 4. Two questions here. I work in a studio setting with 500 W daylight bulbs. Will this stand the high heat generated by the bulbs? Also, with the light be distributed enough to light an entire person, standing, or objects the size of a car if I use two units?

A: Hi Rebecca. I use profoto D1 and B1 strobes versus continuous light. So, I'm not sure the heat rating of this umbrella. If you're shooting with fluorescent or LED lights, I would guess you'll be ok. If you're using anything that generates a lot of heat, I'd check with the manufacturer for what it can handle regarding heat. As far as coverage, I use this all the time for large groups as my fill light and it works great. You get a lot of diffusion for the price.

Q: 5. Are these umbrellas made for 7mm holes or 8mm holes?

A: The shaft size is exactly 8mm verified with a caliper.

Q: 6. Is this a true 45" open umbrella? Some manufactures measure over the backside or rib length and it's misleading.

A: This is a true 45"umbrella.

Q: 7. Will the shaft fit an aputure 100D?

A: Yes, the shaft on this Impact Convertible Umbrella is 8mm thick, which will fit the umbrella slot on the Amaran 100d.

Q: 8. Can this be used with a Godox AD200 with a Godox S-Type Speedlite Bracket for Bowens?

A: Yes the Godox S-Type Speedlite Bracket for Bowens has an umbrella slot by which this umbrella can be used.

Q: 9. Which umbrella provides the best light reflection?

A: In the Impact umbrellas, the Impact Umbrella - Beaded Silver - 43 B&H # IMU43SB would provide the best reflection if you need added contrast to your images. An image of the product is shown below for reference.

Q: 10. Is this padded?

A: Yes, there is some padding in this bag. It's good for personal transport of your gear, but not for shipping.

[White] My gear kept getting wrecked when I flew. This fits in my carry on and did a nice job on bare bones headshots. I love how small it folds down to.

[37 x 4 x 4"] I thought it would be flimsy because of the low price. It works just as good as one that cost double the price.

[4.15 lb] This umbrella collapses to fit into its travel sleeve measuring only 16 x 4 x 1. It is easy to fit into just about any backpack or carryon. Good diffusion, I measure about 1 stop of loss from the strobe shooting through it. Its very lightweight yet reasonably sturdy. Just be careful with wind outdoors: I bent the telescoping shaft on a previous one when wind tipped-over my light-stand, and I could no longer collapse the shaft - so I bought another to replace it.

[4.15 lb] This so far seems like a standard and nicely made umbrella. The shaft collapses and makes it store away in half the length of a normal version. Only thing I would change is that it has a satin like finish, and I would rather it was plain. Otherwise, excellent buy.

[4.15 lb] Yep. It’s an umbrella. Probably not very effective at keeping you dry in a rainstorm, However.
