Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the diameter? The riser in the photo looks like a modified Matthews 20" riser. I have a few of those. Would those work in the clamp as is or do you need that orange sleeve to increase the diameter? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/33059-REG/Matthews_339761_Riser_Section_20.html

A: The clamp is for 1.25" diameter accessories.

Q: 2. Can this tripod hold steady with a heavier longer lens 70-200 or larger

A: My answer is a definite maybe . I've used the tripod regularly with a 1DX and 70-200 lens without any issues. It's the or larger part of your question that drives my maybe answer. I wouldn't have any concerns with a 100-400, 28-300 or lenses of that size. I would not, however, use this tripod for any of the Canon super telephoto lenses such as 200-400 or larger. Hope that helps!

[Aluminum] I have used this tripod with the 501 head on two jobs:1. A full day wedding2. A 3 day trip to Southern Mexico. Here's what I like about it. It's light. It fit in my checked luggage without the head.... I can easily carry it around with the camera and quickly set it up with the half ball to level. Then I tap the center connector with my knee and it folds up and I can carry the whole thing around even through tight doorways or a wedding reception with tight tables. Then I put it down, use the half ball to level and quickly get my next shot.I also like the levers for adjusting height. It's a lot faster and easier than turning nobs. I even used it with our slider. I don't know where the problem lies, but the slider sags when the camera is at the end. Our FS 100 may just be too heavy for the head. I don't know. I would not recommend this for heavy sliders or jibs. Go for a bigger setup. Other than that, I really like it and would recommend it to anyone.

[Aluminum] B&H sent this very quickly, the price was very competitive and I am delighted with the way the tripod is quite sturdy but not to heavy to carry around. Easy to set up and has all the features that I need in terms of height, adjustability and marries well with my 75mm Half Ball Fluid Head.

[1 in / 25mm] Looked for tripod legs for my older Manfrotto 501 video head. I found B&H's breakdown of the options organized and all the specs were clear. Better then Manfrotto site. Questions like can my head mount to this tripod. It is very light but sturdy. It holds a heavy dslr with big lens. I bought a small slider for it. Wouldnt put a huge rig on it. But would not look stupid with a smaller camcorder on it. The clamps to open and close much better then an older Manfrotto I have. It opens and closes so easily. The attached tiedown when it closes is attached and could be better but not big deal. Tom D

[1 in / 25mm] For all those who will never have a heavier rig than a DSLR and some speedlights, you can probably stop here, though there are a few nagging bits that might make it a poor choice. The feet are not designed for nature. They play on flat surfaces. The spreader, if it's not fully extended, will make the whole tripod shaky. The legs themselves wobble without a solid weight on the spreader or the feet, and the system will tip if you put too much force into a pan, but if you use a tripod without a weight, you're probably not doing very choreographed moves. It's a solid piece of equipment, and if you're in the market for something better than legs from a 1980s Sears Tripod, it's definitely a step up.
