The matched pair of ART M-Six Stereo Pencil Condenser Microphone Pairfrom ART M-Six Stereo Pencil Condenser Microphone Pairis designed for studio, broadcast, and live sound recording applications. They require +48V of phantom power and utilize 22mm gold sputtered diaphragms to deliver a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The microphones, each feature a cardioid pickup pattern with a sensitivity of -37 dB (±2 dB) and offer a three position pad (at 0, -10, and -15 dB) which allows a maximum SPL of 134 dB when set to 0 dB pad and 147 dB when set to -15 dB. They also each feature a three position -12 dB/octave high pass filter (flat, 75 Hz, 150 Hz) for rolling off unwanted low frequency information. The package includes two custom shockmounts to provide each microphone with isolation from handling noise as well as a rugged aluminum carrying case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. So are these specifically for the Mixerface recorders? I wanted to get these for my Zoom F3 because they would be perfect for it, but I'm seeing other people saying they're proprietary.

A: The CEntrance PivotMic PM1 XY Stereo Condenser Recording Microphone will perform best when used with the CEntrance Mixerface. Presumably these could be used with other recorders such as the Zoom F3, however as others mention, the orientation of the XLR connections may present an issue when attempting to orient the capsules in a specific stereo pattern.

Q: 2. Is that round bump on the side of the housing a screw? I'm wondering if the XLR connector can be rotated inside the housing; currently it's oriented 90 degrees wrong for essentially every recorder on the market.

A: Hi Alex, I just saw your question regarding the Phillips screw on the side of the CEntrance PivotMic PM1 XY Stereo Condenser Recording Microphones. The screw is used in assembly to secure the mic's internal components to the housing and to keep the 3-pin connector in place. The XLR connector cannot be rotated inside of the housing. The screw should not be removed.

Q: 3. I noted that this microphone has 5 pins but my audio recorders are both 3-pin (Marantz PMD661 and Zoom H6). Can I purchase an adapter cable? This may be dumb question. I'm new to this aspect of recording, and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on any website.

A: Three reasons I bought the NT4 is that it comes with a five pin adapter to two three pin plugs, also a five pin adapter to 3.5mm audio adapter and it can be run off an internal 9 volt battery. None of my digital recorders supply Phantom Power . The audio level at analog output is more than sufficient to connect to my Sony PCM-D50.

Q: 4. Will these be better for indoor dialogue than an rode ntg 2 ?

A: Only in one regard. The NTG2 is a shotgun microphone, which means it is directional because it has an interference tube. Surfaces nearby (such as a ceiling several inches away) that reflect sound can defeat the interference tube, causing more background noise than expected to be recorded. For this reason, shotgun microphones are discouraged for indoor dialog. The C02 does not have an interference tube, so it does not have this problem. It is very directional, and it is a good fit for using on a boom for indoor dialog, even near sound-reflecting surfaces. That said, both the C02 and the NTG2 are a little weak in their ability to pick up the lowest and highest sound frequencies, but the NTG2 seems to be a little better in this regard.

Q: 5. Would these be suitable for entry level field recording, such as nature sounds?

A: Yes you can use the Zoom ZPC-1 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphones (Matched Pair) for entry level recording of nature sounds.

Q: 6. Would this be a good stereo-pair to stream Chorus concerts on YouTube?

A: The Warm Audio WA-14SP Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone (Stereo Pair), B&H # WA14SP, could work very well for choral concert recording.

Q: 7. How well would these work on a boom mount in a home studio, plugged directly into a Blackmagic Pocket 4K?

A: You could only plug 1 of these mics directly into the BMPC camera since it only has 1 xlr connection providing phantom power. You would also need an adapter cable to make that connection, BH #CACTF3MT3220. As long as the mic is within 3' of the person speaking, these would work fine.

Q: 8. What shock mount would you recommend for these mics?

A: Here's one good option BH #AVSSM. Please note, if placing this on a boom pole, you would also need a 3/8'' to 5/8'' adapter like this B&H # AUADCOMBOS.

Q: 9. What windscreen and windjammer are suitable for these microphones?

A: There is no windshield made specifically for the CEntrance PivotMic PM1 XY Stereo Condenser Recording Microphone, but you could potentially use a windjammer such as B&H # AUWRWH4N.

Q: 10. What size thread are the included shock mounts?

A: The shock mounts that are included with the Samson C02 Pencil Condenser Microphones have a 5/8"-27 thread.

[Solid-State] I read reviews that suggested that for the price, these are good mics. Yikes, at double the price, these would still be good mikes for the price. Great for starters, fantastic as a set for interviews

[Cardioid] I've used pari of C02 so many times since I started recording. They sound natural to my ears, they never let me down. I would recommand C02 to anyone who is starting out recroding. With this stereo pair, possibilities of recording any sound are vary. For an example for vocal recording, one placed close to vocal and the other one placed far away to catch room sound(be carefull with phase effect). TO ALL BEGGINERS, BUY THIS PAIR OF C02S NOW, AND START EXPERIMENT AND LEARN HOW TO CATCH SOUND!!

[3.65 lb] It's an excellent mic for the price. There's two of them which is awesome. The sound quality is great for a $50 mic. One thing to note is that it doesn't have as tight of a pickup pattern as shotgun mics. So it's not as good as a shotgun mic for noisy environments. However it will sound just as good (if not better) than a shotgun mic in a quiet room or in an interview situation.

[-10 / -15 dB] Classy looking mics. Nice uncolored sound

[-10 / -15 dB] I have been recording for over 10 years so I have a basic grasp on the process. I bought these microphones being skeptical but at $108 ($54 each) I gave them a shot. I instantly love these mics. First, I plugged them into my Tascam DR100 (using a stereo mic bar on a stand walking around) and recorded room ambience, my voice, and different effects like running water, hits, etc. They sounded great. I am recording audio samples to place into my synthesizers/samplers to create new sounds. before I would have had to use either my Rode NT1A, Shure SM7B, or my ribbon mic. A lot of the things I record have fast attack times which can occasionally be captured better with smaller condenser microphones. I have yet to try them in my universal audio and other preamps but if they sound this good in my tascam, I believe the will sound great. P.S. - No they are not neumann mics (which are not a one size fit all either) but they are definitely in a class waaaay above their selling price! I didn't misspell way :)

[Solid-State] These are a great value!

[Solid-State] I am trying to get setup for semi-professional video creation and wanted to generate good quality audio. After watching a lot of mic reviews, I decided to order a pair of the Samson C02 mics. While these are sold as instrument (drums, acoustic guitar, etc) many people have given them favorable reviews for dialog and even live action. Having received mine, I have done a number of tests both for inside dialog as well as taking them outside to check their sensitivity with ambient sound. I am using a Sound Devices mixer so the whole sound chain is pretty quiet, and I did not hear very much self-noise from these mics while they were able to pick up very faint sounds outdoor such as leaves rustling and birds chirping. They are somewhat directional but certainly not in the same way as a proper shotgun mic. All in all I am very glad I purchased these and I expect them to be with me for a good while.

[Solid-State] Have an older pair, needed to replace due to those showing their age and general wear - though I'll say they are still used as backup mics for a lot of things. Samson has always delivered a great value with these.
