The versatile 3 Legged Thing Tommy Carbon Fiber Tripod with Levelerfrom 3 Legged Thing Tommy Carbon Fiber Tripod with Levelerperforms equally as well as a still tripod as it does a video tripod thanks to its interchangeable flat tripod head plate and 75mm bowl options. The flat plate features a 3/8" stud that will accept most tripod heads and a hook for adding a weight for increased stability. The 75mm bowl can receive any 75mm bowl or half-bowl set. Engineered to support DSLRs and larger video cameras, it reaches a maximum height of 63.77", a minimum height of 6.14", and can support up to 132.2 lb, yet weighs only 5.70 lb, giving it an impressive 23:1 load-to-weight ratio. The Tommy features not one but three detachable legs which can be used as monopods or boom arms. With all three legs removed, it can also be used as a table-top tripod by adding a set of 3 Legged Thing's tripod footwear, available separately. The Tommy is constructed from eight layers of carbon fiber and features 3LT's new design of leg and column locks and is finished in a metallic slate gray tone with British racing green accents. The twist locks have been engineered with a new design of Chicken Lips shims, which give them greater strength and grip, and they feature new rubber O-pads for improved grip and leverage. The durable anodized metal leg rapid latches allow changing the leg angles quickly and easily, even when wearing gloves. Additionally, the Tommy folds down to 28.74" for storage and transport.

Q: 1. Well the Ellie work with the Canon 1D x Mark II?

A: Not well, no. The height of the cable-access panel is too short. Consider the QR11-FBC/FBG (Full-size Bracket Copper or Full-size Bracket Gray) as those are more suitable. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1384936-REG/3_legged_thing_qr11_fbc_full_size_universal_l_bracket.html

Q: 2. This tripod has no aluminum at all? Others on the web claim a mix of magnesium and aluminum. Want to be sure 100% magnesium.

A: The 3 Legged Thing Charles 2.0 Darkness Magnesium Alloy Tripod (Matte Black) is made of a magnesium alloy--"alloy" means that something is mixed with the magnesium, usually aluminum.

Q: 3. My bad, I meant to ask: does this comes with the different tripod FEET accessories for different terrains? Thank you!

A: No, the included rubber "Bootz" are detachable, but this unit does not include any other foot accessories.

Q: 4. Is there a good 65/75mm video head plate adapter that could be used with this tripod?

A: No, unfortunately the 3 Legged Thing Legends Bucky Carbon Fiber Tripod is not designed to support a 65/75mm bowl. An alternate with 75mm bowl is the following model listed below from 3 legged Thing. It features a 3/8"-16 Head Mount, or 75mm Bowl. 3 Legged Thing Legends Nicky 4-Section Carbon Fiber Hybrid Video/Photo Tripod BH #3LNICKY

Q: 5. Does the folded length include the ballhead?

A: Yes. The Punks Brian 2.0 reverse-folds and encapsulates the ballhead when stored away. The folded length therefore includes the ballhead in its measurements.

Q: 6. What is the COMPLETELY TAKEN APART length of the legs? You know... not just closed... but completely detached from the center?

      A: The 3 Legged Thing Mike Carbon Fiber Tripod alone has a Max Height of 1.47 m / 57.8 ", and Min Height of 13.5 cm / 5.3 ". The Folded Length is 66.7 cm / 26.2 ".

Q: 7. How long is the monopod?

A: The following unit has a maximum working height 71.38" / 181.3 cm.

Q: 8. Does it come with the spikes, or do I have to buy them separately?

A: Spikes are not included with this tripod.

Q: 9. Would this tripod be sturdy enough to support a Nikon Z7 w/ Nikkor 100-400mm?

A: Yes, the 3 Legged Thing Legends Bucky CF tripod and AirHed VU ballhead can support a Nikon Z7 with a 100-400mm lens.

      Q: 10. What's included?

A: Here is what comes in the box with the 3 Legged Thing Legends Bucky Carbon Fiber Tripod with AirHed VU Ball Head Set (Gray). 3 Legged Thing AirHed Vu Ball Head (Gray) QR-OCTA Quick Release Plate 1/4"-20 Stagsden Camera Bolt 3 Legged Thing Legends Bucky Carbon Fiber Tripod Leg Set (Gray) 3 Legged Thing Toolz Multi-Tool Anodized Magnesium Alloy D-Ring Cushioned Carrying Case

[Yes] Looked for a sturdy tripod and this is it. Bit bigger than I want but can't complain. I really enjoy the 3LT products and this one shines. Only concern is the bag zipper splits open from time to time. Will contact 3LT and see if this can be resolved.

[3] Solid travel tripod. Not as fancy and innovative as some of the other offerings that are getting a lot of online rave reviews but a traditional design well built tripod with an excellent ball head that’s worth every penny. Coming from a Ulanzi Coman travel tripod that failed after a year of use I appreciate the traditional tried and time tested design despite the extra few grams of weight.

[3/8"-16 Male] In my opinion, the best travel tripod. We have this model plus an older version that is similar. Both are good quality for the price and lightweight. All the clamps and ball head hold fine with D850s/Z7II with lens up to about 200 if using lens tripod mount so it is balanced. Tripod center column is not real stable with if column is raised, especially if windy, but usually good enough to get the job done if you take extra exposures. I carry it on my camera backpack when I am hiking or will be on my feet all day. I use a heavier but more stable tripod for serious photography, especially if windy or exposure times will be slower.

[3/8"-16 Male] I researched extensively for a tripod that would meet my travel needs. It needed to be light, tall, break into a monopod and have lever locks. Well, I failed on the last point, but few tripods have lever locks. So, I gave up and tried a number of them with twist locks. Still don't like them, but will have to settle. The 3 legged thing looks like a winner. I have only tried it in the house, but it works with my Wimberly Sidekick and long lenses attached to the the ball head without drift. It is also very attractive, if you care about appearance. So beautiful Billy and I are going to Costa Rica very soon where we will shoot birds and his name will be changed to Guillermo.

[Twist Lock] I was in the photography industry much earlier in my life.
I have been a big Gitzo fan for close to 30 years. The industry has obviously evolved over that time. I needed a true travel tripod. I originally looked at 5 section tripods with a a double center column from Three Legged Thing, Manfrotto & Gitzo. I opened them up and played around with them at B&H. They did not have the 3LT Leo 2.0. The sales person brought up the Punks Billy 2.0 instead. I was really impressed with the 3LT and the Gitzo. I realized I did not need compactness of the 5 section tripods. The 3LT Punks 2.0 was a small enough size. While being super light. I felt the 4 column / single center column was sturdier than the 5 section double center column offerings. I was really impressed by the fit, finish & quality of the Punks Billy 2.0! The Gitzo was excellent as well, but at significant difference in price. In the end it was hard to justify the cost difference. And I'm not sure if it is better. My old Gitzo's were made in France. Gitzo today are made in China like the 3LT and pretty much everything else. :)
I hope this review helps in your decision process.

[Removable] I love this tripod. It is light, very sturdy, and comfortable to use. Being able to use as a tripod or remove a leg to have a monopod is wonderful. The features and quality put it up there was the more expensive tripods but without the heft price tag. The ball head is great as well, zero creep, strong clamp, whats not to like. Great buy.

[8.72 lb] I had an older 3 Legged Thing monopod that was just a little too light for my purposes so I looked at the Lance 4 section.......much more stability with this model. I don't use a monopod often but when I do need one this is the one that works for me!!

[Twist Lock] My first tripod was a small Mefoto Backpacker S, which is great if you need something ultralight for use when sitting down. I needed heavier and ultimately bought a very large Robus RC-5570 for use with my Sigma 150-600 lens. However, that's not a system I use when I need to be more mobile, so I needed a good midsize. One light enough to carry easily, yet tall and strong enough I can use with my Canon 100-400 lens. This one works perfectly. It's tall enough I can use it without having to stoop too much, works great when sitting down, and easily holds my Canon 80D and 100-400 IS II and my smaller lenses. This has become my main go-to lens for most cases. While I can technically use my Sigma 150-600 and gimbal with this one, the large Robus is still better for that combination.

[Yes] Well made little tripod that's just as good as my Gitzos costing 4-5 times as much. I watched dozens of Youtube videos on tripods and decided on this one. It's very light and compact and will fit into my carry-on luggage when I travel. I didn't want to spend too much money on a tripod because I've had at leat 2 Gitzos stolen by baggage handlers/TSA agents so it won't be a great loss if it meets that fate again. I replaced the ball head with a Foba M1 I had lying around. I'm only going to use it with my Leica Q3 so it should work perfectly in concert with it.

[Removable] Needed a new tripod and found just what I wanted at B&H. This 3 Legged Thing is one of the few tripods that extend to my eye height. Also light and sturdy. A little more expensive but you get what you pay for. Thumbs Up
