Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you mount this prompter on a light stand?

A: I would highly recommend against using this Teleprompter on just a light stand. It weighs 10 pounds and its shape will make it difficult to remain stable. A tripod like B&H #DAPVT7518B from Davis & Sanford would be a far more suitable option.

Q: 2. Will this work with the Black Magic Ursa Major?

A: Jeff, I don't have that exact model for us to test in-house, but I doubt it. The Ursa Major is quite large, so I doubt it would work well with this teleprompter.

Q: 3. Will this prompter work well with a Canon C100? It looks about the right size.

A: Yes, thats what Camera I use.Its a nice prompter.

Q: 4. Does this prompter come with all the hardware shown in the pics?

A: This is what's in the box: ikan PT1200 12" Portable Teleprompter Kit, 12" LCD Monitor, Adjustable Glass Frame, Scientific Grade Glass, Nylon Zippered Hood with Fabric Lens Cover, Set of Two 15mm Rods, Height-Adjustable Baseplate, Quick-Release Plate, Reusable Storage Foam, Prompting Software (Mac/Win), Limited 1-Year Warranty

Q: 5. Do you provide a compatible mirroring software for tablet/smartphone or will that need to be purchased elsewhere?

A: Although we do not carry the individual prompter apps, Prompter People recommends I-Cue Software for use with iPads and iPhones: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/icue/id480668388 . For android, there are many available prompting apps on the Google Play store.

Q: 6. If I want to use it outside, where I have no AC-Power. Is there any option to run it by a battery?

A: While Ikan does not make a cable that allows this Teleprompter to be powered by more traditional Video Production batteries, we do have some options for battery packs with an AC power connection that you could look into. The GOAL ZERO Yeti 150 Solar Generator Power Pack would be a good place to start.

Q: 7. I'd like to be able to feed video to the prompter via a Blackmagic Design ATEM TV Studio HD switcher (Aux output). Does the monitor give me the ability to adjust resolution so the doesn't look squeezed?

A: Unfortunately, the PT1200 is designed only to work under its native resolution of 1024 x 768.

Q: 8. I am concerned about the 12 screen being too small to use comfortably. My client will be 12' from the camera. Our studio Teleprompter is 17 and 4x3, but it is too hard to take in the field. Should I move up to the 15 ?

A: The 12 screen will be small to use from a 12' distance from the camera. A 15 looks more practical. ThanksSwami Bhajanananda.

Q: 9. Does the LCD monitor have an image flip option (vertical?)

A: Yes it does

Q: 10. If I use a dual VGA splitter coming out of a PC, can I duplicate the text simultaneously on two separate cameras?

A: According to ikan you should be able to do what you wish.

[Glass] I got these to help with a custom rig I was building that connected a top rail and bottom rail system. These worked out perfectly along with the SmallRig top plate for the Ursa Mini 4.6K G2.

[Square] I wanted recommend this company and their products, to anyone in the market for a reliable prompting system. My company owns three Prompter People systems, a Q-Pro, a Flex Plus, and a set of presidential paddles. Our Q-Pro has been in service since 2007 and we are still using the original monitor. We have never unboxed the backup. The 17 Q-Pro has been all over the world. It is super simple to setup, and can be run in the field from a portable battery pack, all day. Our clients are very demanding and we don't have time to deal with temperamental equipment or software, which is why I recommend this company and their products so highly.
The reason I am leaving this review, is that I recently ordered a Flip-Q software dongle to replace one that came apart after 15 years of use. (Ironically, the software still worked, the USB drive just plugged in without its external case.) They immediately sent me a downloadable software license to use while the dongle was in transit and we never had an issue.
Everything is well made. We have NEVER had an issue or failure with electronics, or component parts. I rarely leave reviews, but when a company goes above and beyond from a service standpoint, and has a great product (multiple great products), I want to make sure other know about it.

[6' / 1.8 m] SmallRig Is my go to for both stable build quality and speed of change up during a shoot session. These rod blocks really enhance stability on the longer rods.

[Yes] I've been using teleprompters as a key component of my shoots for the last 4 years, and have relied on my ikan hdmi monitor style prompter ever since. The issue with that one is it relies on these tiny machine screws to keep the whole thing together, so there are a lot of weak spots where I've had to retap and re-screw to prevent it from crumbling. This PP branded prompter is a great replacement. All the same features of the computer-to-hdmi-to-monitor style control, but with one hinge that has a safety stop and minimal threaded weak points. Also I'm loving the 15 size and enhanced font!

[Glass] SmallRig makes solid pieces for the price. May not the toughest environments or last forever, but easy to replace at this price. Solid and reliable for small camera/ DSLR/ mirror less set ups. Always appreciate SmallRig.

[Yes] I bought this pair to replace a another block (different brand) that wasn't quite compatible with a sliding fitting (SmallRig brand). The rods are on 60mm centers. The original block was just slightly under that dimension, just enough for the sliding block to bind at the end of travel. These are well made and nicely finished. I'd buy them again.
