Q: 2. How few of the 9 drive bays can remain unoccupied while the device remains functional?

A: You can technically use only a single bay in order for this to work. If you are setting the unit up in a RIAD, then depending on the RAID configuration you might need 2 drives, 3 drives or more.

Q: 6. I'm considering purchase of this QNAP TS-932PX-4G. My current computer is an older iMac that only has Thunderlboldt 2 and USB 3.0, and Gigabit Ethernet. I'm looking for a storage solution that will work with that Mac but also be a smart investment for use with a new Mac when I upgrade soon. Is it possible to connect this NAS to my current iMac, with some type of adapter, via Thunderboldt 2. 0 or USB 3, since that would conceivably give me faster transfer rates than using the Gigabit ethernet port? I plan to use it for photo and video editing and data storage.

A: The QNAP TS-932PX-4G 9-Bay NAS Enclosure can only connect to a computer via ethernet, either directly to the computer's ethernet port or to a network router/switch via ethernet.

A: The QNAP TS-H1290FX-7232P-64G-US 12-Bay NAS Enclosure does not use NVMe-oF.

Q: 9. Can I set this up to back up an external HDD and the internal SSD of my MacBook over ethernet every night?

A: Yes, you can use the QNAP TS-233-US 2-Bay NAS Enclosure as backup storage for your MacBook, you would have to use the QNAP software to setup automated backup times for your drives and your computer would have to be on at the time at which you setup the backup to occur.

Q: 10. Will I need to purchase rails separately to rack mount the TS-h1090FU?

A: The QNAP TS-h1090FU-7302P-128G 10-Bay NAS Enclosure (BH #QN907302P128), does not include rails. Compatible rails are the QNAP Rail Kit for 2 RU Rackmount Models BH #QNRB02.

[Desktop] I needed to upgrade from an older Western Digital NAS to something with more bays. I landed on this QNAP and I am pretty happy with it as it allows me to have more drives AND is somewhat more powerful. It seems a bit more complex but I have called the good people at QNAP tech support on numerous occasions and they have been very accommodating. They even helped me set up an rsync event (is that what it is? an event?) that allowed me to copy the data from my WD to my QNAP. It was so much faster than having my computer negotiate that transfer. So far so good.

[Desktop] I wanted a smaller QNAP to use for my movie archive and it works flawlessly.

[1x Fan] Just put into service, so far so good. This is our second QNAP NAS. First NAS was a TS-469 Pro that has been online 24-7 with original WD2000FYYZ drives since 2013. Hope the TS-453E has the same longevity.

[1 x 250 W] A solid choice for personal cloud storage, and with a lot of extra apps and features that can integrate with smartphones as well as computers. The SSD option does seem to speed up the access for frequently used files, and the newer CPU is better suited to this device's role than in previous models.

[21.4 dBA] So far working very well, easily copied all the data over a via RSYNC from old NAS that was dying. Upgraded with 32GB of ram and is currently hosting Pihole and a few others dockers i had running on a variety of old hardware.

[QTS 4.5.2] My old PR4100 NAS was way past its prime and needed to be retired fast. I researched the QNAP TS-464 and decided it would suit my needs. I was amazed how fast my data (+/- 150GB) was copied from the old to the new NAS. (across a 1G connection) The ability to see the network traffic across the pair of NIC's that I used to connect to my router was a bonus. The QNAP Apps available both free and licensed opened up a new capability that I did not have on my old WD device. Money well spent and I am just getting started with my data safe on this QNAP machine.

[256-Bit AES] This was my first NAS setup for video editing, and it's been fantastic. A bit involved to set up, but the capabilities it has are incredible once you watch a few tutorials. I'm connected to mine through a 10g ethernet connection, using an ethernet to thunderbolt adapter to go into my MacBook Pro. It's nearly as fast as the thunderbolt RAID I have on my desk, but much larger and more powerful.

[Yes] Using with Crucial 1Tb drives in RAID 5 and hitting 1.2Gb read for my home virtualization environment. I have older QNAPs that just keep running without failure.

[1 x 250 W] Researched NAS drives prior to purchasing this one. I can say I have no regrets at all. I am pleasantly pleased and actually beyond pleased with my purchase. This is my first NAS drive and if this one holds up QNAP will be my future NAS purchases. I highly recommend it. Let me add it was extremely easy to set up.

[1 x 250 W] This thing is replacing my TS 653 eventually. It is whisper quiet sitting right beside me. It is a faster Celeron than the 653 and it uses metal trays instead of plastic brackets. It gives my system a nice look. One thing all should be aware of is that the holes for the rack mount are smaller than the regular rack screws so keep that in mind. I didn't increase the memory as I bought the 8 GB model, and I love the B&H Payboo Card which saves money.
