There's a reason so many award-winning albums feature a Prophet-5. Its massive versatility, luxurious analog warmth, and straightforward layout produce winning results and sweet spots galore every time, for whatever synth sound you're after.

No more hours spent finding the most luscious pad or the gnarliest bass. Just like its hardware predecessor, Prophet-5 V is as approachable as synths come, giving you the quickest route to the soul-stirring, floor-shaking, mind-bending sounds you need for soul, hip-hop, R & B, and beyond.

Your tracks deserve the real deal, and sometimes only the high-voltage grit and organic heat of authentic analog will do. Prophet-5 V's engine has been meticulously modeled and reengineered with TAE technology, component by component.

Prophet-5 V goes a step further than the original without ever losing the magic that put it on the map. Enhanced with modern creative features, FX, and presets, this vintage synth is remade with contemporary production in mind.

  • Whether it’s a shimmering lead patch or a sumptuous R & B pad, most producers turn straight to the Prophet-5, because it always gets the job done.
  • Get silky-smooth chords and melodies that soundtracked some of neo-soul’s most iconic anthems—the delicate pianolike chords that breathe organic life into any track, and the brassy pads that heralded the arrival of hip-hop liberators.
  • Not only can Prophet-5 V execute all this and more, it does it effortlessly. You don’t need to understand synthesis or be a seasoned keyboard player. Just fire it up, explore its intuitive controls, and enjoy the simplest form of effective, usable sound design that’ll have you hooked.

This is more than a vintage keyboard turned softsynth. To ensure that Prophet-5 V is up to speed with the DAW workflow that you need, Arturia expanded its functionality. Enjoy more flexibility, more sound shaping, and more expression.

  • Modulation: Prophet-5 V excels at creating quick and dramatic modulation in a few clicks. But for when you want to go a few steps further, Arturia added an extra LFO and a function generator, letting you craft custom modulations with the DAW-friendly flexibility you need.
  • Keyboard: Like the original, this is very much a player’s synth. That’s why the Advanced panel features a selection of controls that let you customize Prophet-5 V’s response to keyboard and note input. This kitted-out section allows you to program Velocity, Aftertouch, Keyboard Tracking, and Modwheel information to affect up to 3 destinations, putting full expressive control at your fingertips.
  • Effects: Get Prophet-5 V sitting perfectly in your mix or making the impact you need it to with 16 built-in FX. That’s 16 punchy, shimmering, destructive, and spacious finishing touches for your synth parts, with 3 series/parallel slots at your disposal.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Timecode output.Is it LTC?

A: You may chose to extract timecode from the SDI input instead of audio out the XLR. Yes it is LTC.

Q: 2. This doesn't appear to allow for audio embedding. Or does it? I have an SDI source without audio. I need to inject audio to the SDI and output to analog. Is there something like that?

A: Yes, but I need analog out. Was hoping to do with one device with Audio In, SDI In, and Analog Out.

Q: 3. Can I use this to go from hd sdi drone a video switcher preview output to a rd connection and split it to send a video signal to multiple screens

A: This will make an analog video signal from SDI. Not completely sure of your workflow.

Q: 4. Does the Teranex Mini scale output? I’ve seen answers that range from “no” to “it will scale resolution, but not framerate” to “it scales both resolution and framerate.”

A: No, this Teranex Mini model doesn't scale the output.

Q: 5. What is the image quality like converting HD-SDI to HD Component? Are there any artifacts or a loss of resolution? I have an HD CRT that I'd like to use, but it only has analog HD inputs. Cheers!

A: HD-SDI Digital HD was a step up in image quality over Component Analog HD. So in a critical analysis, yes, you will see a slight difference. But for casual use, there is no loss in quality to the degree that it would interfere with your use or enjoyment of your CRT display. After all, it was what we had for years and were quite happy with it.

Q: 6. I got my Mini Converter Analog to SDI. Question: How do you get S-VHS video into the unit with the BNC cables? I have yet to find an answer on line nor is there any instructions for me to get my head around this. A shot tried to sell me an adapter but in one look it was simply an S-VHS female to an old fashioned RCA composite. What am I missing here? Thanks! Tom from Thailand

A: You need a S-Video to BNC adapter. Since B&H has a stupid policy you'll have to google that otherwise I'd attach a link.

Q: 7. I have a Swann SDI camera and I have a new HD BNC Qsee recorder. Will this units output give me a usable HD BNC signal?

A: No, it will not. This will only give you a standard analog output, maybe wide screen but nevertheless it will be analog.

Q: 8. I'm trying to find more information regarding the Teranex Mini Analog to SDI converter and its output format. Specifically, when converting from an SD analog source to HD, what output is it producing at what frame rate? Is the HD output progressive scan or interlaced? How does it handle the de-interlacing of the analog SD source? How does it handle aspect ratio conversion? Does it convert 29.97 fps interlaced material to 59.94 fps progressive scan to maintain proper motion cadence? When capturing from an analog tape, how does it handle signal drop out or control track issues?

A: All conversations will be the same frame rate and scan. There is no rate conversion or deinterlace. Those functions are available in the Teranex AV product. You should use a time base corrector or TBC to stabilize analog tapes prior to conversion.

Q: 9. Does the BM Mini Converter SDI to Analog pass close captioning or strip it from the signal?

A: The digital closed captioning will be removed. If there is captioning in the active video in the SDI, it will remain in the active video of the analog.

Q: 10. What type of cable do I need to communicate with this unit and Cable from this to my iphone?

A: The Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Analog to SDI accepts analog signals. Current iPhones and their lighting to AV out is are digital, HDMI signal. It would be optimal if you use a lightning to HDMI adapter and then an HDMI to SDI converter, but if you wish to complete this connection to the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Analog to SDI, please see the items below: Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter - https://bhpho.to/3M1e1tx Pearstone High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet (Black, 6') - https://bhpho.to/3sjzJRF Atomos Connect Convert Scale | SDI/HDMI to Analog - https://bhpho.to/3M1SSPR 3 x Pearstone 6' SDI Video Cable - BNC to BNC - https://bhpho.to/33RpvOZ

[Standard] It's the best you can get. Nothing more to say.

[3 GB] Endless sound possibilities. It's opened up an amazing world for me. It's expressive and powerful. Run it through some chorus and slight reverb and it sounds like a fully bloomed analog synth. My only complaint is that it comes by default with 300+ presets and in order to save your own, you have to scroll forever to a blank slot (or overwrite a factory one). AND if you mistakenly bonk that preset knob, you've lost whatever you were just working with. Happened so many times.

[Yes] Top notch synth at any price. The factory sounds are amazing, easy to edit, best free software editor I have ever used. Extremely well built, perfect size for a desktop controller keyboard. Highly recommended!

[Yes] Got this as a gift for my girlfriend who had not played a keyboard since high school. She is interested in electronic music, and she absolutely loves the wide range of presets that come with this. As well as how compact and lightweight it is for portability, and that you can run it off of a USB powerbank.

[Yes] First of all, it's a prophet 5 that you can take everywhere reliably! Immediate sounds, intuitive and simple interface and build quality is the best.

Sounds huge and beautiful without much effort, super fun to play with.

[3 GB] This is the second one of these I've purchased, to get even more voices. Out of all the prophet follow-on synths that Dave Smith and Sequential have produced over the years, this one finally captures the sound of the famous Prophet-5. Some people complain that they followed the scheme of the original Prophet-5 a little too closely and left out some functions (like onboard effects) that recent synths seem to have, but I think Sequential arrived at the right balance on this unit.

[Download] I have several little synths like this from the minilogue to the roli seaboard and I have to say nothing is quite like sitting down with the microfreak for a few hours exploring the possibilities of digital synthesis along with the tactlessness of the strange but wonderful circuit keyboard. If you lay your finger on a key you can produce strange short out sounds or an increase or decrease in the desired effect depending on what you are doing. I wish it had a few more outputs but other than that this thing is a ton of fun for the price.

[Standard] The Arturia Mini V3 is incredibly cool. There is truly sooo much you can do over a standard Model-D from an extra LFO that doesn’t eat up oscillator 3 to velocity as a modifier to varying actual pulse widths static or modulated to individual amounts of any modifier on each oscillator all made possible by the eight slot mod matrix. The major failing that I take no points off from this synth is that it does not have the natural drift of the original Model-D. I’m pretty sure I have heard & seen oscillator drift in soft software synths so I’m not sure why it’s omitted here but as long as you detune your oscillators to taste you get a rich sound that in context will surpass a Minimoog in terms of sheer flexibility & enhancements every time. The built in chorus & delay sound good but really aren’t necessary for most patches. I never found a use for the vocal filter as I would have preferred female articulations or the motion recorder as it always restarts with each note press & isn’t free running like say a Moog 1125 which would have been an ingenious touch. Maybe in a future update. For sheer flexibility from enhancements such as polyphony & velocity to being able to automate sequences & performances to never needing to service your instrument the Arturia Mini V3 delivers in spades. I literally sold my vintage Model-D because the Mini V3’s features made me feel the vintage instrument is more of a collectors piece & not forward thinking. I see myself using the Mini V3 for a long time to come.

[Download] The DSI Prophet 6 is probably the most compelling Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer on the market at the moment. Having learned synthesis on a Moog Modular in the 70's it is clear to me that this little beast is the real deal. A modern Analog Poly Synth wrapped in a very modern feature set. If you're looking for the classic Prophet 5 sound but did not want to deal with the unstable tuning headaches of the original then your ship just came in. The design and layout is superb, with every knob and control right there in front of you for instant changes in modulation with no menu diving. In fact, there are no menus, just like the Prophet 5, however I did not find that limiting once I got used to it. The included sound set is excellent and much better that the sound set that DSI shipped with the Prophet 8 IMHO. If you are lucky enough to find a store that actually has the Prophet 6 on display you can use the 'Play' function in the sequencer section to preview the sounds. For me, the warm analog sound of this machine is what made it stand out from the other DSI offerings, however it was the outstanding Arp/Sequencer and Digital Effects engine that convinced me that it was worth the heavenly price point. The ability to use the Poly-Chain feature to link two Prophet 6's together would create a 12 Voice, Analog tone monster to contend with. Add in a full size keyboard and integrated power supply and there not much to be desired here. The available third party software really helps to round out the potential for using this in the studio and integrating it into a DAW setup. The nicely weighted keyboard is both velocity sensitive and has after-touch but for some reason the P6 ships with a 49 note, four octave keyboard while its namesake and other DSI offerings like the P8 came with a 61 note keyboard. Not a show stopper for me but it is a curious omission on an otherwise brilliant, modern analog synthesizer. Highly Recommended.

[Download] I bought the MicroFreak over a year ago, and I'm still finding new things to do with it. There
are many digital oscillator types. While the oscillators themselves offer only three controls, the modulation matrix give this instrument much more depth and allows it to punch far above it's weight class.

I'm glad I waited to write a review because since I bought it the device has received a massive firmware update (5th major update) that allows you to load short samples onto it. There are three sample playback modes (e.g. granular, oneshot) and these can be routed through the modulation matrix providing a very interesting sound design opportunties.

Because this is such a popular item, I found that getting help with creating a patch or trouble shooting is easily available from the community of experts.

The capacitive keyboard is a mixed bag. The aftertouch puts additional modulation dimension in the keys themselves. However, it's easy to touch the wrong note. I like owning such a unique playing interface, but if it's your only keyboard it's very non-standard. Also the capacitive controls and buttons, like the pitch bend ribbon don't respond well when running on USB power some of the times. I've found can be finicky even with the legit power supply.

Even with a few flaws this thing is 5 stars. Very good value for money.

PROS:
Many Oscillator Models
Works as CV to MIDI or MIDI to CV converter
Step Sequencer
Arpeggiator with interesting controls and MIDI out
Analog filter*
User-Sample Playback

CONS:
capacitive controls are touchy
12db filter only*

* The SEM filter isn't bad, but I'd like to
have seen a 24db filter as well. There are a range of sounds I can't make
without outboard gear. I can't really knock the device too much for this though
because the immense value of this thing delivers overwise.
