It provides an easy-to-operate solution with sophisticated technology to ensure reliability and high-quality audio for projects ranging from YouTube and wedding videos to corporate spots and interviews.

The ATW-1701/L features an omnidirectional lavalier microphone and bodypack transmitter for hands-free speech and dialog, along with a camera-mount receiver that connects to your DSLR or mirrorless camera via the included 3.5mm output cable. It operates anywhere in the world, transmitting 24-bit/48 kHz audio in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, well away from potential TV and radio interference.

This peer-to-peer system delivers three levels of diversity assurance—frequency, time, and space—for optimal performance at a range up to 100'. Just power up the components, and the receiver automatically seeks out a clean frequency and pairs up with the transmitter, saving you the hassle of scanning and syncing before a shoot. • Space Diversity: The receiver compares the signal showing up at its two antennas and chooses the strongest one.
  • Time Diversity: The transmitter sends the digital signal in two imperceptibly different time slots and compares the two.
  • Frequency Diversity: The digital audio is sent over two different frequencies at the same time and the system chooses the cleaner one.
  • For optimal performance, users are encouraged to maintain as direct a line of sight as possible between the transmitter and receiver.

  • The MT830cW lavalier microphone features an Audio-Technica cW-style 4-pin locking connector and delivers a natural, broadcast-quality sound optimized for speech intelligibility. Its omnidirectional polar pattern ensures that the sound remains consistent, even when the speaker's head moves away from the mic.
  • The level control on the transmitter can be set to match the sensitivity of your microphone or audio source for distortion-free input.
  • The output level on the receiver can be reduced by 10 or 20 dB if you find you're overloading the input to your camera or recording device. The 3.5mm output can be switched to deliver either a balanced or unbalanced signal.
  • Both the transmitter and receiver are housed in lightweight, plastic chassis and equipped with belt clips. The included shoemount allows you to easily mount the receiver to your camera.
  • With just a quick press, the power switch on the transmitter doubles as a mute function. This function can be locked out to prevent an accident.
  • Conveniently, the receiver's LCD display shows critical information for the receiver as well as the transmitter—including battery status, signal level, mute status, and channel selection for both units.
  • An additional 3.5mm output on the receiver allows you to monitor your signal while recording—helpful if your camera doesn't offer a headphone jack.
  • The receiver features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 12 hours of operation. Using the included power adapter, the battery can be recharged via USB in about 4.5 hours, while in operation.
  • On the transmitter's end, power is supplied by two AA batteries, giving you up to 7 hours of shooting time depending on battery type and usage.
  • With this peer-to-peer system, you can only use one transmitter and one receiver at once. However, up to 8 transmitters can be paired with the receiver ahead of time. This is useful in situations when you have multiple speakers, one after another, and you need to have them miked up and ready to go. All you'll have to do is turn one transmitter off and the next one on.
  • For man-on-the-street interviews or if you need to pass the mic between several people, you can add the ATW-T1002 handheld transmitter/microphone to your system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have AT 3000 series wireless microphones, are the connectors on my bodypacks compatible with the System 10 connectors?

A: I wish I could answer this. Right after I acquired the equipment some events happened that have prevented me from even trying it out. Sorry - I don't know.

Q: 2. Can this be used without a camera? Can I record direct to my Mac using an Adobe Audition or Garage Band type application?

A: Yes if you have the adapter or interface for the Apple plug. I use the Tascam iXZ for Apple. You will also need an adapter to make it a 1/4 plug.

Q: 3. Would this Audio Technical System 10 work well with Sony A7S?

A: Yes. Any camera that has an 1/8th inch stereo mic input. Keep in mind the input level adjustment is in an odd place under the battery hood. It can typically be left all the way up unless you are experiencing distortion. Otherwise you have to remove the battery hood and adjust it with this little tool. It has never been an issue for me, but just a heads up.

Q: 4. will this work on a go pro???

A: The Hero2 has the necessary input port, but if you've got a newer model you'll need the GoPro USB to 3.5mm mic adapter - then you're good to go!

Q: 5. Can you use this with the Sony PXW FS7 wireless base on the camera,,,,,or do you have to run an XLR to the Camera?

A: The Audio Technica System 10 receiver requires a cable connection to the Sony PXW-FS7. Not compatible with the Sony Multi Interface shoe.

Q: 6. Can I use the AT 803 mic with this unit?

A: The Audio-Technica At 803 lavalier microphone will not connect to this wireless system. I would recommend the Audio-Technica AT899CW - Sub-Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone, BH #AUAT899CW, which is a high quality miniature condenser clip-on microphone that has the appropriate locking 4-pin connector.

Q: 7. Could you tell me which lav mic cpmes with it? Thanks in advance.

A: This system ships with the MT830cW lavalier. See the following link for more information: a href= http://bhpho.to/1BdG8NF target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1BdG8NF/a

Q: 8. I already have a Rode PinMic that I use with a Zoom H1 for maximum discreetness when shooting weddings. Will the PinMic work with this system, or should I make sure to get the audio-technica lavalier?

A: the mic attaches by a unique to AT .. to my frustration my sony mics and sure mics will not work. Also odd with this system is the the the receiver uses 2 aa batteries (normal) the tranmitter pack must be recharged. (weird to me) I bought it for the neat antenna but I'd stick with Sony or Sure in the future. hope that helps. Pete

Q: 9. So what you're saying is the receiver has an internal battery that will need to be recharged? So it's useless until charged? Is the Li-ion battery replaceable on the receiver? Please say it is.

A: This transmitter runs on 2x 1.5 V AA (not included). Standard alkaline or rechargeable AA cells may be used. The receiver portion includes a 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion battery that must be charged prior to use. it is not user replaceable.

Q: 10. I understand that this system does not allow two transmitters for the one receiver. What are my options if I want to have two mica going? It sounds like I need a receiver for every transmitter. So do I just get a y adapter and go right into camera or do I need a mixer? Mind you Ill be mobile and outside for most of my shooting. Appreciate the help.

A: The System 10 Camera mount system has a multi-pairing function that can be used to link a single receiver with up to eight System 10 body-pack or handheld transmitters. Hope this helps...

[135 dB SPL] I use this primarily for lecture videos but I have used this for field recording as well. I have been as close as 20' from the receiver and as far away as 120' from the receiver and there has been no deviation in the sound. Also the lavalier mic that comes with this unit is awesome. It's omnidirectional and it gives a great sound. No need to tweak the sound in post. Overall, I am very happy with this wireless system and for the price, it simply can't be beat!

[20 Hz to 20 kHz] Like most of you who may be looking for a wireless solution I stumbled upon the System 10. I have tried both the Sennheiser G3 and Sony UWP and they lack the features the system 10 has. G3 doesn't have a way for you to monitor the audio going into the camera unless you are feeding your audio to a recorder but that would defeat the purpose of going away from double system recording. The Sony didn't impress me too much and I had trouble with the gain. Those two units are also several hundred dollars more. When I received the system 10 it took less that 3 minutes to hook everything up and the audio is crystal clear and professional quality. For those of you using Canon, go into your audio settings and choose Manual. Once in manual mode lower the volume all the way down and then bump it up one click. Exit the menu and your audio levels will be distortion and hiss free.

[Yes] I had been researching for weeks and had actually tried several microphones with my SONY A58 DSLR. Unfortunately, the automatic gain control is a problem for shotgun mics and since most of my work is interview type situations I decided to give this a try. B&H THANK YOU for having this in stock. You're one of the few companies that did. I have had this setup in the field for a short time but it is a stellar performer. The system is easy to setup and use and the sound quality is great even without post-production work. Love the versatility of the unit. Very impressive for my use at an affordable price.

[Bodypack] The ATW-17091/L really makes interviews much easier with the receiver attached to the camera, output connected to the camera XLR audio input. One cable 16 long! No extra batteries or power supply. It is all in one package. I bought the handheld Mic as well and switching from a body pack & lapel to a handheld takes less than a minute. Will be adding a second receiver to offer a second wireless system with another 16 cable! Very pleased with the ATW-1701/L System 10!

[>109 dBA] Here is the link to the YouTube video that I just posted with 3 of the walk tests that I did with the System 10 wireless. The unit achieves better than expected range; easily delivering the advertised 100 feet. On multiple occasions, I was getting 150 to over 200 feet. (View and hear the video at http://youtu.be/SnudYcodS0U ) Again, bear in mind that these are low cost systems and not intended to compete against the high quality wireless that we use on major shoots. But for an inexpensive unit, they perform surprisingly well. I brought the system with me to the Cinema TV Arts Dept at California State University Northridge in order to shoot some more tests. CSUN has a soundstage for the film program that is approx 50 ft by 75 feet. Camera and the System 10 stayed in the rear corner, while I moved around the entire space. Even while hovering near a laptop and the lighting dimmer board -- the System 10 performed flawlessly. And, yes, there is WiFi in the stage. We went into the main corridor of the film/TV building (Manzanita Hall), which is dotted with electronic RFI emitters and WiFi routers (according to the department's Chief Video Engineer). The System 10 transmitted perfectly the entire length (approx 150 feet). Heading outside onto campus, on multiple tests we achieved 150 to 250 feet. Although we did encounter the occasional minor dropout on one or two of our footpaths, the unit was always reliable up to 125 feet; and depending on the pathway, sometimes good past 200 feet. I included one of those walk tests, where we made it 220 feet before the signal began to cut out. The aforementioned Video Engineer was curious about transmitting through walls, so I stayed inside thecorridor while he went outside and roamed around the exterior of the building. Signal held up nicely passing through just one exterior wall, but did drop out when he turned (still outside the building) 90 degrees from the corridor and thus placed multiple interior rooms in our signal path.

[108 dB] So far so good. I use it with multiple cams and it is working just fine. I even use it with a consumer cam. The Panasonic HC-V750. Sounds great. Not sure how long the internal battery will last, but I'm very happy so far.

[Mono] I own a small video production company and we do a lot of interviews. Was using a wireless consumer grade lavalier but the results were unreliable. Not any more! The System 10 by Audio-Technica is a godsend! I run the signal out to a ZOOM H4N recorder and the signal is so strong I had to turn the record level down! That's a first! Once I imported the files into my editing suite I was impressed with how clear and clean the voices were with no perceptible hiss like I got with my old rig. I was even able to clip it to someone who talked while they did their job working at a retail store! The System 10 performed flawlessly. As far as I'm concerned, this system outshines any other in this price range, especially due to it's digital output. I couldn't be happier. Well, I could be happier if the battery on the receiver was swappable but I just have to remember to charge it up before a shoot. I highly recommend this product!!

[10 mW] This is the third System 10 ENG-style wireless system I've purchased -- this one replaced a Sure non-ENG system that is going to be illegal in the next couple of years. I've LOVED the System 10 ENG systems -- I've found the range to be excellent, the clarity to be excellent, and the battery life to be excellent. No problems whatsoever in using these, and they are a superb value.

[30 Hz to 20 kHz] When I got these I was super excited to try them out. like a kid on Xmas I got right into the box and started checking it all out and to my dismay there was no lav mic. I didn't realize it's sold separately. When the mic came and I got to try it out I was impressed. The sound quality was great easy set up and no interference. I would recommend these but remember mic is sold separately
