Arturia Synthi V Virtual Synthesizer Plug-in

Arturia Synthi V Virtual Synthesizer Plug-in
  • Product Code: eq168977
  • Availability: In Stock

$447.00 $674.97

Available for download, the Arturia Synthi V Virtual Synthesizer Plug-Inemulates the classic EMS synths born out of Britain in the 1970s. It models the Synthi AKS and VCS3, some of the first hardware synths to provide modular functionality in a portable form factor. These synths were used on songs like On the Run from Pink Floyd's seminal Dark Side of the Moon. This synth fosters experimentation in your composition and sound-design endeavors, giving you multiple forms of manipulation and an intrinsically fat yet edgy tone.

Though the instrument's inherent tone and functionality have been modeled for authenticity, Arturia has given the classic synth digital enhancements to better fit modern production styles. These include a modern step sequencer, a beat-syncable LFO section, and a bevy of built-in effects. You can tweak every single parameter thanks to a matrix modulation section. Furthermore, the synth can now handle 4-voice polyphony, allowing you to make more complex chords.

The Synthi V will provide interesting sounds in both studio and live environments. It's compatible with Mac and Windows platforms, and can operate as a standalone instrument or as an AU, VST2, VST3, NKS, or AAX Native plug-in within your DAW.

  • Enhanced VCOs: Synthi V’s oscillators can quantize pitch to semitones and hard-sync VCO2 to VCO1. Or, control-drag on the knobs to make fine adjustments.
  • Put a pin in it: Patch audio and control signals to destinations by clicking on the virtual pinboard. Sources and destinations are highlighted as you go.
  • Pintastic: Use a special group pin to route several signals to several places at once in the Advanced Panel.
  • Sample and hold: Arturia added a sample-and-hold generator with its own row in the pin matrix, for cool nonlinear modulation effects.
  • Synced on the run: The legacy sequencer has been preserved in all its glory, only now, it optionally syncs to MIDI or your host DAW’s project tempo.
  • Ready player one: Assign each axis of the joystick to any destination you choose.
  • Attenuator pins: The hardware used special pins if you wanted less of an audio or control signal to go somewhere. Click-and-hold on a pin to choose one.

  • Synthi V comes with an extensive library of leads, basses, textures, sound effects, and more.
  • It's always easy to find the sound for which you're looking because the preset browser displays categories and tags. You can organize your own patches using this same elegant system.

  • A component-level model of the EMS Synthi AKS
  • 3 oscillators with waveform mix, noise generator, 18 dB/oct resonant filter, and an output section with spring reverb modeling
  • Modular architecture, allowing you to route signals in unexpected ways
  • Ring modulator, loopable envelope shaper, 2-axis joystick, and sample-and-hold modules for advanced modulations
  • Original keyboard sequencer module with sync to DAW tempo
  • 2 matrix behavior modes: modern and vintage for crosstalk simulation
  • 5 assignable voltage functions to create multipoint envelopes and LFOs synced to DAW tempo

[Synthesizer] I guess Hive is and will mostly be used in Trance music productions, but its absolutely stellar sound quality would be a waste if not used in most of any other genres of electronic or electronic-acoustic music productions as well. I highly recommend it!

[3 GB] The Arturia Mini V3 is incredibly cool. There is truly sooo much you can do over a standard Model-D from an extra LFO that doesn’t eat up oscillator 3 to velocity as a modifier to varying actual pulse widths static or modulated to individual amounts of any modifier on each oscillator all made possible by the eight slot mod matrix. The major failing that I take no points off from this synth is that it does not have the natural drift of the original Model-D. I’m pretty sure I have heard & seen oscillator drift in soft software synths so I’m not sure why it’s omitted here but as long as you detune your oscillators to taste you get a rich sound that in context will surpass a Minimoog in terms of sheer flexibility & enhancements every time. The built in chorus & delay sound good but really aren’t necessary for most patches. I never found a use for the vocal filter as I would have preferred female articulations or the motion recorder as it always restarts with each note press & isn’t free running like say a Moog 1125 which would have been an ingenious touch. Maybe in a future update. For sheer flexibility from enhancements such as polyphony & velocity to being able to automate sequences & performances to never needing to service your instrument the Arturia Mini V3 delivers in spades. I literally sold my vintage Model-D because the Mini V3’s features made me feel the vintage instrument is more of a collectors piece & not forward thinking. I see myself using the Mini V3 for a long time to come.

[Standard] I have several little synths like this from the minilogue to the roli seaboard and I have to say nothing is quite like sitting down with the microfreak for a few hours exploring the possibilities of digital synthesis along with the tactlessness of the strange but wonderful circuit keyboard. If you lay your finger on a key you can produce strange short out sounds or an increase or decrease in the desired effect depending on what you are doing. I wish it had a few more outputs but other than that this thing is a ton of fun for the price.

[Synthesizer] I bought this for the uniquely warm and dynamic electrical sounds it offered, unlike anything I had heard before. The software offers immediately accessible controls to alter the sound quite a bit, and these controls are easy to work with. The real challenge is under the hood, which offers an unbelievably intricate array of choices to make to fine-tune presets and create sounds from scratch. Given the complexity of this challenge, some who are interested in the sounds of Waverazor might consider its simpler version, Miniraze, as an alternative.

[Synthesizer] I've worked with many saxophone players and I played woodwind instruments. Not saying that I am an expert but I do have some experience with wind instruments. I am keyboardists with years of working with sampled saxophones. The samples have become better over the years but SWAM physical modeling is superior for duplicating the nuances and articulations of a real sax player. The only weak link is me. I need to think sax and not keyboardist when I use the SWAM plugin. My wife is a musician and when I would try to emulate a sax she would say 'that doesn't sound real'. Then I let her listen to a song with the SWAM Sax she said 'WOW, that's not you you're trying to fool me'. You won't be sorry with the SWAM Sax Virtual Instrument.

[Yes] Not sure why I waited so long to order it, its a must have for any electronic music sound creator. Fun started right out of the box and it goes much deeper, lot's of tricks under the hood in this synth. Arturia has created a true freak of FM synthesis.

[Yes] I bought the MicroFreak over a year ago, and I'm still finding new things to do with it. There
are many digital oscillator types. While the oscillators themselves offer only three controls, the modulation matrix give this instrument much more depth and allows it to punch far above it's weight class.

I'm glad I waited to write a review because since I bought it the device has received a massive firmware update (5th major update) that allows you to load short samples onto it. There are three sample playback modes (e.g. granular, oneshot) and these can be routed through the modulation matrix providing a very interesting sound design opportunties.

Because this is such a popular item, I found that getting help with creating a patch or trouble shooting is easily available from the community of experts.

The capacitive keyboard is a mixed bag. The aftertouch puts additional modulation dimension in the keys themselves. However, it's easy to touch the wrong note. I like owning such a unique playing interface, but if it's your only keyboard it's very non-standard. Also the capacitive controls and buttons, like the pitch bend ribbon don't respond well when running on USB power some of the times. I've found can be finicky even with the legit power supply.

Even with a few flaws this thing is 5 stars. Very good value for money.

PROS:
Many Oscillator Models
Works as CV to MIDI or MIDI to CV converter
Step Sequencer
Arpeggiator with interesting controls and MIDI out
Analog filter*
User-Sample Playback

CONS:
capacitive controls are touchy
12db filter only*

* The SEM filter isn't bad, but I'd like to
have seen a 24db filter as well. There are a range of sounds I can't make
without outboard gear. I can't really knock the device too much for this though
because the immense value of this thing delivers overwise.

[Standard] This program was a long time coming. I had been an owner of one of the original mid 1960s Compact Combos for many years, until things started to break down. And of course, next to impossible to find parts. Or people that are able and willing to repair them. Some of the modern keyboards do have some of the Farfisa sounds, but in reality, only a small amount of them(like maybe 2 or 3 of them). In reality, there is more of a diverse amount of tones that the Farfisa produced. Even resorted to buying one of the Electro-Harmonix C9 organ emulator pedals, but that still wasn't enough of these particular kinds of tone for me. Then Arturia started coming out with these new virtual instrument programs. The dealers that I normally buy from carried the similar type of Vox Continental program(which would have probably worked fine, and would have settled for it) but knowing that the Farfisa program was also being made, I had to search to see who carried it. No regrets here. All the sounds that I was familiar with, and where they were situated on the virtual keyboard screen. What was interesting that they had the option of effects pedals in this program......and I would always run my Farfisa through a Phase Shifter and/or a Flanger when I had it. Also learned a few things that I did not know about my original instrument. There used to be this one controller that stuck out of the bottom, that you controlled with your knee. When I bought my original Farfisa(used, back in the mid-70s), that knee controller was missing, and it was something I never noticed. So, a bit more historical and technical information on the instrument you played regularly---but didn't know about. It's easy to get a keyboard that has the piano, Rhodes, and Hammond sounds, to name a few......but nobody seemed to get the Farfisa sounds right. Until now. Great timing, on the part of Arturia!
