Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this lens differ from the older Planar 85mm lens?

A: This lens differs in all aspects, except the core characteristics (85mm focal lefth and 1.4 aperture). Unlike some other Milvus lenses (I'm thinking about the 50mm for example), this has been built from the ground-up and bears no resemblance to any other lens they have made. The 85 has more similarities with the Otus than the older Planar. In a nutshell: this lens is much much MUCH sharper than the older Planar. It also manages CA better. It however has slightly more vignetting.

Q: 2. Focus confirmation?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Milvus ZF.2 lenses are compatible with the focus confirmation feature, which is engaged when holding the shutter button half way down while focusing the lens.

Q: 3. Is anyone using this lens on a Nikon D800? If so, how easy or hard are you finding it to nail focus where the subject is not perfectly still?

A: It takes some practice. I did a shoot recently with the milvus and I missed a lot of shots. I made it a point to keep the lens on my camera most of the time. I find using the guage in the view finder helps a lot.

Q: 4. Canon focus screens

A: There are no interchangeable focus screens for the 5dmkiii. There is a focus confirmation beep with the center af point. If you have a eos1-n, 1-v, eos 3, or even a 5d up to mkii, they all accept the same screens. There is a split image/ microprism Fresnel (Ec-B) that would be helpful for those cameras; it is sold by B&H, but it is on backorder now. With 5dmkii just use af confirmation, or shoot in Live View and magnify to confirm focus. The microprism fresnel's are all in the Center anyway so it's the same deal. Wide open handheld with a figity subject is a tough. This lens is a powerful tool, but it does take a certain dedication to work with it. The results are worth the effort. Good luck!

Q: 5. Will the Otus line come out with the Z mount?

A: The Otus lenses are designed for F and EF mount (D)SLR cameras, but can be used on mirrorless cameras via a compatible lens mount adapter. There are currently no plans to expand the range of mount offerings at this time.

Q: 6. Can the aperture ring of the F mount version be controlled when the lens is detached (i.e. when no electric conection is on the mount)?

A: Yes it can!

Q: 7. Would it work with aparture priority, automatic ISO and shutter priority modes of Canon 5DSR? Also, does this camera correct for distortion and fringing as it does for Canon lenses?

A: Aperture Priority - Yes. Aperture is controlled in the lens by the camera body.Shutter Priority - Yes. Shutter speed is wholly a camera body function and is not affected by choice of lens.Automatic ISO - Yes. ISO is wholly a camera body function and is not affected by choice of lens. The in-camera lens correction for in-camera JPEG images only works with Canon lenses.

Q: 8. Is this lens made in Germany? Or Japan?

A: The following lens is made in japan.

Q: 9. Can the aperture ring be controlled in camera?

A: If you set/lock the lens to its minimum aperture setting on the lens, then yes, you can control the aperture via the control on the camera body.

Q: 10. What lens adapter do I need to use for Sony FX6 camera?

A: The ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F is a manual lens. So a good Manual adapter that works with E mount cameras would be this one, https://bhpho.to/3GAsMTX .

[27mm f/1.2] There are a few spots, one black one. I’m going to spend more time with it tonight

[Yes, Built-In] I heard alot of complaints about AGM before buying a pvs-14 but I couldn't pass up on this deal. Tube is in excellent condition, the only complaint I would have is that in the q&a a staff member said this is white phosphor which it is not. This is a NL2 not and NW2. Still worth the price especially with the free thermal.

[1x] This monocular is not cheap, but it works very well, has multiple applications, and is compact.

[58 to 60 lp/mm] I purchased the ATN PVS14/6015-3W a few weeks ago. After a few days of operating the pvs14's I am pleased with the results. I chose the white phosphor option, which seems to have less strain on my eye as compared to the green phosphor pvs14s I have used before. There was only one blemish that appears but doesn't interfere with night vision. Overall, would recommend to friends.

[27mm f/1.2] First night vision monocular and it’s amazing. I’m normally a thermal guy but this will definitely help driving around the ranch. Great clarity and simple enough to use. Took it out the first time last weekend to the ranch, it was pitch black with lightning storms off in the distance. I threw this bad boy up and could see everything, from leaves on a tree to the shape of the clouds in the sky! I could see deer 200yrds away.

[1x] Bought these because the other PVS14s I ordered from a smaller business had yet to ship after a whole month. B&H shipped them out same day, and they arrived 30 hours after the order was placed. Amazing.

The PVS14s are awesome. My first NVG but it's really cool. Not sure what else to say about it, no blemishes on the tubes, good visibility in pitch black, everything works as intended.

[1x Gen 2] Very good monocular! BH customer service is exceptional in the industry. Someone actually picks up the phone, and it’s not a robot! Great job BH!

[Yes, Built-In] Though the unit was missing the J-arm, I was sent one promptly after notifying ATN support. The gen3 image sharpness and clarity is amazing. Can't wait to chase the dogs around in the dark!

[1x] I live in the country with occasional unwanted critters and people. The view is AMAZING even with overcast night skys. Not cheap, might have been fine with Gen 2, or level 2-3 quality tube. Hands free head gear is kinda cheap but I don’t plan to use it much. Crisp , bright night vision in seemingly pitch darkness.

[27mm f/1.2] Great optic. Good clarity and the illumination flexibility and diopter adjustment make it work well for any user.
