Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it reduce the farther end of the focus range? Will the lens still be able to focus to infinity with this adapter on?

A: When using a Macro adapter, such as the Leica Macro-Adapter-M, you will no longer be able to focus to infinity, as the adapter will move the lens further away from the sensor, allowing you to focus closer to objects, but losing the ability to focus on further away objects.

Q: 2. Hi. can i use this Adapter with my lens 90mm f/2.8 +M9?

A: Sure!

Q: 3. Does the helicoid allow this adapter to function like a gariable extension tube? If so, how much extension is available?

A: Yes it is essentially a variable extension tube and it will extend up to about 5mm.

Q: 4. How many millimeters does the helicoid extend?

A: The helicoid extends 6mm.

Q: 5. How does 6-bit coding work here? Camera can only recognize this adapter and can't recognize which (coded)lens is attached to it?

A: No, the following lens will send no passive exif or metadata as it is a all manual lens Specifically designed for the Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90mm.

Q: 6. When used with the Noctilux 50mm f/0.95, what's the maximum reproduction ratio?

A: The Maximum Reproduction Ratio for the Leica Macro-Adapter-M is 1:2.

Q: 7. Does this maintain correct infinity focus?

A: Once the helicoid is adjusted from its original position, infinity focus will no longer be available. When the adapter is in its original position, the infinity focus function will work.

Q: 8. what does the control ring do? does it open and close the iris?

A: The ring on the KIPON Macro Lens Mount Adapter with Helicoid for Canon EF-Mount Lens to Canon RF-Mount Camera is not a control ring; instead, it is a helicoid ring that you may turn to elongate the lens adapter, thereby increasing your lens' minimum focus distance. When the ring is set to its standard position, you will be able to focus to infinity. However, upon turning the ring, you will lose infinity focus, but it will allow you to focus closer to your subject and increase its magnification.

Q: 9. Is it possible to scan negatives with this in combination with 50 Summilux?

A: This Macro M adapter would help you get closer and for the image to be larger - you will also need a rear light to photograph negatives with any lens. But it will turn your 50mm M mount lens into a macro lens for an M mount Leica camera, yes.

Q: 10. Do you generally keep the adapter on the camera for all of your work, or do you only use it for close up work? In other words, does this change or disrupt your workflow, image quality etc. to use this adapter for closeup and non-closeup work? Thanks

A: You will only be able to do macro photos with this adapter in place. You should not keep the macro adapter on the camera except for macro photography.

[Metal] I could have purchased a less expensive version, less good adapter, but was intrigued by the Macro function. Very glad I made the right choice and picked this one. It works great and is of very high quality and is well worth the price.

[Metal] I use this Macro adapter with a Leica f 4 90 mm Elmar lens. The adapter has an adjustable length and the lens itself can be compressed or extended. In this way you can focus as closely as 12 inches or as far away as infinity. I almost feel that I am using a view camera.. it is that versatile

[Leica M] The Leica Macro-Adapter-M is a continuously adjustable extension tube for close-up photographs. With a 90 mm lens it provides a reproduction ratio of up to 1:2 which by definition does not amount to true macrophotography (greater than life size). However, it is sufficient for photographing small objects such as butterflies or flowers. As Leica lenses are designed to be used with maximum aperture for their amazing clarity of in-focus details with beautifully blurred out-of-focus areas, these characteristics become even more pronounced when using this adapter for close-up photographs. Depth of field becomes extremely small when focusing on close objects. A smaller aperture (higher f-number) may be required to produce acceptable sharpness. Even a mm difference makes our pictures blurred. The life view helps, but the hit rate of hand-held photographs is relatively small. I've attached a sample of two hand-held flower pictures. Both were taken with the Leica Macro-Adapter-M and an M 10-R, one picture with a Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH and the other with a Leica Summilux-M 90mm f/1.5 ASPH lens. Understandably, the resolution is not as brilliant in the attached pictures because of the reduced number of pixels, with the file size being limited to 100 kilobytes, from the original 40 megabytes of the DNG file. In summary, this adapter is built with the precision that Leica customers expect. I highly recommend it if the high cost is not a concern.

[Metal] Although pricey, it is indispensable if using the superb 45-85 mm Pentax 645 zoom lens for close focus and macro at the full zoom range of this lens. Very well made, sturdy, and super smooth helicoid. Other helicoids I bought do not have a throw long enough for the longer end of the zoom range of this lens. If you need a helicoid for your Pentax 645 lenses on your Fujifilm GFX, this is the one to get.

[Metal] Easy way to use your vintage M42 lenses at their focusing sweet spot while still being able to adjust focus. I also use it with my extension tubes so I can adjust focus when doing macro photography with microscope objectives.

[Metal] I had to go through 2 adapters (K&F and Urth) before finally settling on Novoflex. It's more expensive but the attachment is rock-solid, no slop or wobble. You get what you pay for. Case in point.
