Produce professional results in broadcast and voice recording applications with the Track One Mk3 from SPL, a versatile rack-mountable channel strip with two separate input preamps: one preamplifier with 48V phantom power for microphones and a dedicated instrument preamp. With comprehensive SPL de-esser technology, a flexible compressor and limiter stage, and powerful 3-band EQ facilities, the Track One Mk3 is ready for surgical sound sculpting in nearly any studio scenario.

A selectable 80 Hz high-pass filter lets you cut out subsonic frequencies for cleaner processing or easy elimination of unwanted rumbles and noises. You can choose between line- or instrument-level input for everything from analog DAW punch ins to electric guitar or synthesizer DI recording. The Track One Mk3 sports a electronically balanced XLR mic input, fully balanced outputs, and 1/4" link connections for stereo compressor processing. The Track One is equipped with two preamps: a microphone preamp with 48V phantom power and a separate instrument preamp. Both are tuned to a sound-neutral, open, and transparent characteristic.

  • The microphone input features 48V phantom power and preamp gain up to 63 dB
  • The selectable low-impedance Line input has a balancing stage for connecting studio equipment and up to 22 dB of gain
  • The selectable low-noise, high-impedance instrument input is ideal for electronic or electric instruments and provides up to 35 dB of preamp gain

Subtly removes offending sibilants by eliminating only the "S" sounding frequencies with phase-cancelling processing technology. The unit's auto-threshold assists in constant processing, even with varying microphone distances. S-Reduction control adjusts the intensity of the S-sound reduction.

The compressor is extremely easy to operate with very low noise and distortion characteristics thanks to control via a single knob and signal-dependent automation and musical results in just about any situation. You get up to 20 dB of makeup gain and a dedicated switch for turning the Track One into a soft limiter.

Provides an EQ design optimized to process vocals, acoustic, and electronic instruments.

  • LMF controls low and mid frequencies from 30 to 700 Hz, covering a range of about 4.5 octaves
  • MHF governs the mid and high frequencies from 680 Hz to 15 kHz, also covering a 4.5 octave range
  • Both filters allow for a boost or cut of up to 12 dB
  • Air is a high-frequency, coil-capacitor filter with bell characteristics and a center frequency of 19 kHz
  • Air filter provides maximum attenuation and accentuation of 10 dB

The illuminated 10-segment LED meters make it easy to view all of your information at a glance, in any environment.

  • PPM Output display shows the peak reading of the output level. This display also serves to level the preamplifier.
  • The Gain Reduction indicator provides information about the processing performed by the compressor.
  • S-DET. lights up as soon as an "S" sound is detected. This is only active when the de-esser is switched on, but it works independently of the set reduction value.
  • CLIP lights on as soon as an overload is detected. The indicator picks up after the preamp, after the compressor, after the EQ, and after the output control.
  • SIG. indicates when an input signal with a higher level than -30 dB is detected.

The inputs and outputs of the Track One Mk3 are equipped with Neutrik XLR sockets and plugs with gold-plated contacts. The signal transmission is electronically balanced, at a nominal level of +6 dBu.

  • Balanced XLR mic input
  • Selectable 1/4" line or instrument TS input and extra 1/4" line input
  • Balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS outputs
  • Two 1/4" Compressor Link for connecting to another unit for stereo processing
  • Selectable Master or Slave link operation
  • Ground lift button for eliminating hum

Track One Mk3 has a 4mm thick, black anodized aluminum front panel and knobs milled from solid aluminum. The housing is made of high-quality steel and is powder coated in elegant black.

The Track One Mk3 comes in two different input balancing flavors: electronically balanced (Track One Mk3 standard) or transformer balanced using Lundahl transformers (Track One Mk3 Premium). Transformers are used as an alternative to electronic balancing stages in the inputs and outputs.

Transformers can be found in many classics of audio engineering. They make the bass and fundamental tines rounder and give it a little more punch. The high and overtone range sounds a bit silkier and more present, making them ideal for vocals and voices. For highest precision and speed in signal transmission (transient processing), however, electronic stages are better suited.

As with all SPL devices, the Track One Mk3 was developed not only according to plan, but also by ear. Many important components are installed on the circuit boards using Through-hole technology.

This way SPL can ensure that only the best sounding components are used. Also like all SPL products, this device was manufactured in SPL's own production facility in the Lower Rhine, Germany.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where are the phantom power buttons for the XLR ins? Thx

A: The Phantom power button is placed directly above the headphone jack. This mixer has a single phantom power button, you cannot select a individual channel to provide power too, the power is share between all microphone inputs.

Q: 2. Would this Stripbox work on Prolinca 250 lighting? Many thanks

A: This softbox will work on a Prolinca 250.

Q: 3. Are the speedrings replaceable? I want to use the the Godox mount ring and if possible is this a 150 or 130mm size mount?

A: While the speedring included with the FotodioX Pro Studio Solutions EZ-Pro Strip Softbox (9 x 36") is built onto the softbox, the speedring inserts are interchangeable. That being said, most all Godox studio strobes use the Bowens S-mount speedring, which is one of the speedrings included with the purchase of this softbox. If you own a Godox studio strobe that uses a proprietary Godox speedring, we may not have an insert for your specific light fixture. The speedring insert is approximately 150mm in size.

Q: 4. Will this work with a profoto B10 Flash?

A: Yes, that will work with he Profoto B10.

Q: 5. Would this work with a Paul C Buff CST? Im new to strobe lighting but these fire under different frequencies

A: Unfortunately, this receiver is not compatible with the Paul C. Buff Cybersync Trigger Transmitter. It is only compatible with the Impact PowerTrigger 16 Channel Transmitter.

Q: 6. are headphone levels independent of main levels?

A: Is that a knob labeled phones directly above the master volume knob that I see? Oh, wouldnt ya know it.... it is.

Q: 7. How do I use the effects on this board? OR do I need to purchase an FX processor?

A: This mixer has no on-board effects.

Q: 8. The psu unit has dual voltage support for 220v/110v? Thanks

A: Unfortunately, the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer is only 100 to 120 VAC.

Q: 9. can I run the dual xlr out to my computer to record, while monitoring with the dual 1/4 inch to headphones?

A: Yes, you can connect the left and right XLR outputs to your computer using a USB audio interface that accepts line level input like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2x2 USB Audio Interface (B&H # FOSCARL2I23G), PreSonus Studio 24c Desktop 2x2 USB Type-C Audio/MIDI Interface (B&H # PRSTUDIO24C) or any other model with two inputs compatible for line level signal. The interface will also have a headphone jack for monitoring while recording. If you don't already have the 802VLZ4, you may want to consider purchasing a mixer that has a built-in USB audio interface like the Mackie ProFX10v3 (B&H # MAPROFX10V3) or ProFX6v3 (B&H # MAPROFX6V3), Yamaha MG10XU (B&H # YAMG10XU), Soundcraft Notepad-12FX (B&H # SO12CDTMUSBE), or Allen & Heath ZED-10 (B&H # ALZED10).

Q: 10. Is the power supply truly universal? The user manual appears to list different power requirements for different models depending on where it is purchased.

A: The Mackie 402VLZ4 ships with an external power supply, and is packaged regionally. The power supply available with units purchased from B&H are 100-120 VAC compatible only.

[Steel, Aluminum] I was looking to start my own home recording studio for local bands and through a lot of research, I found this neat little device. It allows for very clear and warm audio recording. I use it for recording vocals, acoustic guitars, grand piano, etc. In all of these instances, this device performs extremely well. The expander and compressor are both very nice features to have. My setup also includes the Focusrite Saffire PRO 40,Rode NT1-A mic, and Sure SM57 mic and I am able to get recordings at a very high level of quality; Almost no hissing in the recording which is very important to me. I will definitely be buying more of this product soon to add more channels.

[AC Input] Used sparingly, these functions can really add life to your mix. The key is to not overdo it. I've also used it in a live sound scenario and it worked well there as well.

[Steel, Aluminum] I am well pleased with the Art Voice Channel. Took me awhile to get it set the way I wanted but now it sounds great. Clean and clear sound, gate works well but is very sensitive, takes a bit to get it set correctly, compressor works great, I think the tone is a little on the crisp side but I just boosted lows in my recorder just a tad and it sounds great. Greatly improved my home studio!

[AC Input] I dont give products 5 stars ever. But today I'm doing that. Let me tell you I am really impressed. I can see why ART named this thing the Voice Channel. I keep reading about people using this for bass or overheads (It would work great for these) but this is really designed for the voice. After owning one for just a couple of hours and really getting a feel for the unit, it took my voice to a brand new level. Admittedly this is the first time i've done compression/eq/de-essing/gate/expand out of the box. However i feel like the investment in plugins (and the fact that very successful producers like Chris Lorde Algie and Graham Cochrane use plugins) prove there's nothig wrong with that approach. I've been recording in the box (plus a preamp) for a while. This was such an immediate upgrade. I've tried both using the USB out as well as running direct into my interface. The quality is absolutely there. The control though? If you're an in-the box mixer, you should still get one of these. Add a bit of compression and De-Esser on the way in and your singer can relax and focus on the performance. You can get SO MUCH MORE out of the singer that way. Overall i've been so impressed with this unit. The Preamp goes from SUPER clean to as much breakup as you would ever realistically use. It's a very musical preamp. And then the controls let you fine tune. I went from doing everything in the box to now I just use reverb and maybe a touch of further eq once I have my mix almost finished. When I expand and buy more channel strips, I'll probably just buy more of these.

[Steel, Aluminum] Lots of reviews start out with lines like Best Bang for your Buck and Great Value etc. This unit compares favourably both sonically and feature wise to units in the boutique segment of channel strips, hands down! In fact, you just won't find all of these features on units in the 4 figure price range, anywhere, seriously-this is the swiss army knife of processors. If you've got 10's of thousands of dollars to blow on Strips, Pre's, EQ's, limiters, Compressors, and DAW input interfaces etc, I'm sure you could out perform the ART. But if you prefer to grow your mike locker and studio effects DO NOT HESITATE to add this fine piece of engineering to your studio, heck, if you want to add some snootique flavour to it, drop another $50 or so bucks on a NOS Mullard 12ax7 or ECC83 to really vintage this guy up!
