Fast to work with and lightweight at only 5.72 lb, the Sachtler 75/2 Mark II Tripod with FSB 8 MK II Fluid Headsupports up to 26.4 lb of camera and accessories, and with its 15-steps of counterbalance adjustment, you can tune the head to work with the lightest of cameras. The head features a 75mm ball for quick leveling, and the independent drag adjustment and tilt locks permit you to adjust and move the head with precision to tune it to match the needs of your shot.

The head allows you to tilt forward so you can tilt straight down and tilt almost straight up as well. Pan and tilt have seven independent drag settings, plus a zero setting for no drag at all. Borrowing from the aktiv system, the bubble level has been improved, not only is it illuminated, but now you can see the bubble level from the side, as well as when looking down on the head, for intuitive leveling from almost any position.

The 15-step counterbalance settings let you adjust the head to neutralize the weight of cameras up to 26.4 lb, so the head remains in the position you set it and does not tilt forward of back because of the weight of your camera. This allows you to tune the head to match the weight of your cameras, allowing you to work equally well with extremely lightweight cameras as well as cameras weighing up to 26.4 lb. The zero setting provides you a completely free movement if you want.

Frictionless leak-proof fluid damping with 7 x levels of drag, for smooth pictures while panning, without jerks and vibrations. Identical across both horizontal and vertical planes, and allows complete disengagement of drag for fast panning

The FSB 8 MK II features Sachtler's Sideload mechanism, which allows you to pop the plate in above instead of trying to slide it in from the edge, and it boasts an exceptionally large sliding range of 4.7"

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with a shoulder strap?

A: yes

Q: 2. Can you mount a VCT base plate on this head? I have the SHAPE Pro Shoulder Rig Kit for the Sony PXW-FX9 Camera. Do I need an additional adapter? Thanks for your reply

A: You will need a VCT quick release plate like the following. This plate would allow you to mount VCT compatible cameras to basically any tripod including the Sachtler model listed. SHAPE VCT Tripod Plate BH #SHVCTSH https://bhpho.to/3MddXaH

Q: 3. Is there a minimum starting payload to counterbalance properly?

A: The counterbalance capabilities start at minimum payload and goes up to 26.4 lb Load Capacity, on the Sachtler FSB 8 MK II Fluid Head with Sideload Mechanism.

Q: 4. What’s the difference between the original Mark I version and this Mark II version?

Q: 5. Is the Manfrotto 501PLONG plate compatible with this? There are no plates shown in the Accessories section.

A: The correct plate to work with when using the Sachtler FSB 8 MK II Fluid Head with Sideload Mechanism is to use the Sachtler Sideload Plate S/Ace Tripod QR Plate. It is not Manfrotto 501PL compatible. Sachtler Sideload Plate S/Ace Tripod QR Plate BH #SAWPDV1

Q: 6. What is the difference between the FSB 8 and the FSB 10 heads, other than the bowl mount diameter?

A: The weight would be the only other difference with the Sachtler FSB8 vs FSB10 heads. The FSB8 is 2.60 kg, and the FSB10 is 2.70 kg. The Main difference though is that the FSB8 is 75mm, and the FSB10 is a more secure stronger100mm head.

[+90° to -70°] Using this with a heavy Ursa broadcast setup at around 22 pounds and have had good results. Very smooth. Counterbalance is almost perfect. I wish the pan drag could go a little stiffer, but its not really a problem.

[75 mm Half Ball] I've now used the Sachtler FSB-8 fluid head for a few months on a variety of event video shoots (concerts, cabarets, etc.) and corporate interviews. In a nutshell: it works perfectly. This thing is far, FAR better than a Manfrotto 504HD (my previous fluid head). Super-smooth pans and tilts, great counterbalance with my Canon C100 camera and 70-200mm lens. It's nice that the quick-release plate is compatible with Manfrotto plates, so I didn't have to spend any extra cash on additional plates.

My only complaint is the pan handle. It's way too short, and not adjustable in length. You'd think a fluid head as expensive as this would have a decent pan handle. You can purchase another compatible handle that does extend, but it's very expensive.

That said, I have zero regrets with this fluid head. Buttery smooth motion, easy to set up, doesn't weigh much, and it just plain works. Highly recommended.

[+90° to -70°] My first pro fluid head back in the day was a Manfrotto 501.  I suffered its crappiness for a couple of years, finally saying Enough is enough and investing in an FSB-4.  Eventually, my camera rigs outgrew its weight capacity.  In an attempt to save some money, I read some positive reviews of a more modern Manfrotto head and tried it.  Guess what?  It sucked almost as much as my old 501, and I returned it.  Bought this FSB-8 and of course, its amazing.

[Fluid Head] Moving from Arca Swiss to the FSB is like moving from a manual transmission car to an automatic - everything works well and is VERY SMOOTH. Setting the balance is a snap and working with long lenses (and long lens flop over factor) ceases to be an issue. It's a must for cine - no stick slip at all.

[Fluid Head] Bought this to replace the QR Manfrotto MVH500AH I have on everything. I have two tripods, one monopod, one slider, and a jib -- each with their own Manfrotto head. I also have a Vinten Vision Blue tripod/head combo. The Vinten is far superior to the Manfrotto. BUT the Vinten has an oddball mounting plate that's not compatible with any other make (and hard to find affordable extras). I needed SPEED in swapping camera from one support to another. The Sachtler takes the same plates as the Manfrotto MVH500AH. That means I can swap from one head to another seamlessly (and quickly with QR). Comparing the Vinten to the Sachtler... they're close, but my personal preference is for the Sachtler. The QR feature alone is worth the difference. I like the counterbalance better on the Sachtler. And although the Vinten has 10 seamless steps of drag, I find the 5 on the Sachtler more useful. I can spin past two or three settings on the Vinten and not notice much difference, then at 7 or so, it gets really tight all of a sudden. True, you can set the drag on the fly with Vinten and there is not click or snap -- but I've never needed to do that.

[75 mm Half Ball] Very easy to operate and more concentrate all the energy to photography as left hand can touch the lens.
Highly recommended.

[75 mm Half Ball] This
head is logically simple and reliable in use. But to understand the
quality of its work, and therefore, to decide whether to obtain this
head for myself or not, I would need to answer two questions for
myself:

1)
Would you need to set up the head under your camera every time for
different filming parameters?

2)
Is it important for you to have clean camera movement and therefore
in-shot composition?

If
not – then it is better to get a simpler and cheaper head, you
would save a good deal of money.

If
yes – then Sachtler will serve you well. That is, the FSB 6 will
satisfy many professional needs (of course, except large film
projects, where there are other needs for other camera equipment).
But in the case of production of many independent films – feature
or documentary – with non-heavy cameras, the Sachtler FSB 6 head
creates a firm sense of reassurance that the most difficult scene,
panorama and mise-en-scène
will
be shot. In film production, just like in any craft, there needs to
be a certain level of quality which would help complete a job with a
good and stable result. Sachtler FSB 6 is in this very category of
quality. I give 5 stars with one comment – I got the Sachtler FSB 6
for a tripod of another brand and the Tie-Down Bolt was shorter than
needed. I suspect that I am not the only one to whom this problem
extends to.
