Three points of articulation, courtesy of the nonslip gear joint and two 360° ball heads on either end make it easy to find the perfect positioning. Once in place, you can fine-tune your setup even further thanks to the panning base with a separate panoramic locking knob and 360° markings.

The main joint of the magic arm features additional accessory mounting points, including two 3/8"-16 and four 1/4"-20 threaded holes. These can be used to attach accessories to the arm, or to mount the arm to a tripod head or another piece of equipment.

The Arca-type compatible quick release plate features a 1/4"-20 screw for wide compatibility, as well as a nonslip rubber pad and a safety lock for security.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this REALLY hold 6.6 lbs. if it is extended all the way out horizontally 20" with the weight at the end?

A: Yes the load capacity would be based on the full extension of the arm, so it is capable of holding up to 6.6 lbs.

Q: 2. Which plate/quick release is this? ManfrottoPL compatible?

A: Included with the Manfrotto 244RC Variable Friction Magic Arm with Quick Release Camera Bracket (B&H# MA244RC) is the Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate. In case it's of interest, the following is a kit that contains, among other things, the Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate, and more information can be found at its product page: https://bhpho.to/3tELKjy

Q: 3. Just out or curiosity. Are the company name and serial number printed on the arm or is it a sticker?

A: The name is painted on.

Q: 4. please tell me what diameter thread the ends take. Thank you. ?

A: One end of the arm has a 1/4 -20 female thread and the other end has a 3/8 -16 female thread.

Q: 5. Can I remove camera bracket out like Manfrotto_244 ?

A: Yes but not easily. The screw is threadlocked on and once you remove it, it will no longer be a secure hold. You're better off buying the regular 244N of you don't want a bracket, or getting a 244 which comes with the removable bracket, not a quick release.

Q: 6. Manfrotto 143 vs 244? Pros/Cons of each?

A: Nothing its the same magic are the only difference is that the 143 comes with accessories that are very much needed in order to complete a kit.

Q: 7. May I mount one side to a dslr and the other side to a standard tripod?

A: I use a manfrotto super lamp on the bottom so you would have to see if theres a thread on the super lamp that would screw on top of your tripod

Q: 8. The Super Clamp 35RL says it will take a hexagonal stud to prevent twisting, but this arm looks to have only round ends - and they don't look replacable with hex studs. Is that the case? Is it only friction that keeps the arm from spinning in the clamp?

A: You can add a hex stud via the 3/8" screw on one end of the arm. That would be the Manfrotto 037 Reversible Short Stud, with 3/8" & 1/4"-20 Threads (Brass), BH # MA037 https://bhpho.to/2XmMg8V

Q: 9. can I replace the camera arm end with a clamp end?

A: If the intent is to use the arm to hold a camera but with the ability to use a clamp on both ends, then you would actually need the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Arm With Camera Bracket, B&H # MA244. Please see the following image.

Q: 10. Will it work on Odyssey 7Q+ and Sony FS700? Or should I use another Magic Arm? Thanks.

A: The 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket is much heavier than you need for that application, in my opinion. Depends on your rig or setup. But a smaller extension device will likely be more acceptable.

[2] Great arm for everything from supporting a video monitor, a 35mm stills camera and even flowers vases. Very strong and extremely controllable. I've used the older style with the locking arm for years. This one is a lot better.

[Aluminum, Iron] This product is great. I wish I had more remote cameras to justify purchasing more to my inventory. The other night, I lost my tripod an another shoot (long story) and used the magic arm with a super clamp to photograph lightning while attached to my car!

[3] I use these to support backboard remote cameras when I'm covering basketball games. They are rock-solid, and pretty much the industry standard. I normally use two at a time, one with the camera bracket and another with a superclamp on each end for additional support.

[3] A very simple to use and very useful product for both studio set-ups as well as in the field the Manfrotto Magic arm is well worth the money. I use with the Manfrotto Super Clamp to mount either my Nikon D700 or just to secure a remote flash. The great thing about it is that once you have it positioned as you like, a simple turn of the single knob locks the entire thing in place. This particular one at B&H comes with a great mounting head that is ready for your camera or your flash as it has an umbrella mount built right in. I've seen this offered elsewhere with a different head that is not nearly as universal. Can't say enough about the usefulness of this product. Highly recommend.

[3] I purchased the magic arm along with a super clamp for my wife who is confined to a wheel chair. We both enjoy photography as a retirement hobby. Clamped onto the frame of the chair my wife now has the camera support she increasingly needs to remain an active shutterbug.

[2] I use them to hang remote cameras behind backboards at basketball games. Never had one fail, but don't get overly paranoid and tighten it too much as the ball will crack the clamps on the ends. That's why I'm here ordering another one. Never had one fail, but I posted a link below to a safety cable, I'd always use one with it. In some places you may have regulations that require it.
