The controller features forty-nine semiweighted, velocity-sensitive keys with aftertouch, eight assignable knobs, faders, and switches, sixteen MPC-style pads with RGB feedback, and onboard transport buttons. An arpeggiator, with adjustable resolution, range, and patterns, enables users to explore complex melodic ideas, effortlessly. The music production suite of software includes Ableton Live Lite and MPC Essentials for out-of-the-box music creation. MPC Essentials can run standalone and extends the functionality of the controller by adding up to eight pad banks and four samples and insert effects per pad. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the software compatible with this controller?

A: This controller can work with any professional DAW, including Ableton, Studio One, Pro Tools, Logic, etc.

Q: 2. does this only work with specific DAW?

A: The MPK mini MKII will work with any DAW. I've personally used it with Ableton Live, Logic, Bitwig, and Pro Tools.

Q: 3. Are the keys velocity sensitive?

A: Yes, the are semi-weighted, velocity sensitive.

Q: 4. What sustian pedals does it support?

A: The Akai MPK mini MKII can be used with most sustain pedals that have a standard 1/4" TS connector such as the On-Stage KSP100 (B&H # ONKSP100), Auray - FP-S1L (B&H# AUFPS1L), Auray FP-P1L (B&H# AUFPP1L), or M-Audio - SP-1 (B&H# MASP1). If you click on the tab for "Accessories" on the item page, you'll see a list of options on the left side of the page. Click on the link for "Pedals" and you can view a selection of compatible sustain pedals and other for punch in/punch out that can be used with the MPK mini MKII.

Q: 5. Does it come with pre-programmed drum beats?

A: No. There are no sounds in the unit and there are no sound output connectors. It is a controller only.

Q: 6. I'm a beginner ... is it possible to use it with Roland S-1 as a keyboard? is there any usb to midi adapter for this?

A: The only way to use the Akai MPK Mini Mk3 25-Key MIDI Controller (White) is by using a computer in conjunction with any USB device that has a MIDI output, such as the Focusrite 4i4 (B&H # FOSCAR4I44G). When set properly, you can route the MIDI data from the computer to the S-1 via the MIDI out port on the device/interface with most MIDI-capable DAWs.

Q: 7. Does it come with cables for a Mac

A: This controller will come with a standard USB cable. If your Mac computer requires a USB-C type connection, i would recommend also getting an Apple USB Type-C to USB Type-A Adapter, BH #APMJ1M2AMA.

Q: 8. Does it work with Magix Music Maker?

A: If the program allows for MIDI input, it should work. I keep this little keyboard in my backpack at all times and I use it almost daily. It's great for getting ideas out quickly on-the-go. That being said, if you're looking to get into music production and you're on a budget, I would recommend you look into Logic Pro X ($199 US) instead of Magix Music Maker. The last time I worked with someone and they opened up a session in Magix Music Maker was.... never. Logic is one of a number of industry standard DAWs and if price is a factor, I would highly recommend it. If price is not an issue, than I would recommend Ableton Live ($599 EUR) due to the unmatched workflow that it offers.

Q: 9. can the akai professional mpk minimkii work on my macbook pro with 10.10?

A: Hi! Happy to help! The MPK mini MKII is supported for use on macOS Yosemite 10.10. But, for the best results with the included software, we recommend macOS 10.12 - 10.14.

Q: 10. Anyone have any experience with this and cubase? I am reading mixed things about it's compatibility with Cubase and El Capitan?

A: If you are having issues with the compatibility of these 2 products or are speculating on things you have read. The best thing to do would be to contact Akai support and ask them. As the manufacturer they will have far more accurate information than anyone else.

[20.95 lb] Although I carefully read through the documentation when I got my Akai MPK Mini a day earlier than projected by B&H, it is really a plug and play unit to add to my lineup for my Ableton Live 10 projects. I already have a great Roland FP30 digital piano/keyboard so for more extensive keyboard parts, I'm covered. But the Roland has to run through an audio interface and it can be cumbersome switching back and forth from direct USB plug-ins to my laptop and using the interface. It's too much work if all I'm doing is tweaking drum patterns or laying down simple mono tracks. That's where the MPK Mini is perfect and I was using it within minutes of plugging it in. and it's an inexpensive solution, so ROI (so to speak) will be off the charts.
