Ilford ID-11 Film Developer Powder for B&W Film (1L)is for use where fine grain negatives are required without a loss of emulsion speed.

ID-11 ensures the best balance of fine grain, sharpness and tonal rendition, and it can be used with all formats of film, producing negatives that allow a high degree of enlargement.

ID-11 is supplied as a powder and shows exceptional consistency in performance throughout its working life. ID-11 is a Metol-Hydroquinone borax type of developer.

The developer is made as a stock solution for normal tank or tray use, and it can be further diluted 1+1 or 1+3 for users who prefer longer development times, a higher degree of sharpness, and are willing to use ID-11 on a "one- shot" basis.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. considering that it's a liquid, are there any issues shipping internationally? (i live in brazil btw)

A: There currently are no shipping restrictions to Brazil.

Q: 2. What developer does this equal to?

A: This developer closely resembles the performance of Kodak D76.

Q: 3. Can it develop ILFord hp5? And also how many rolls it develops per pack?

A: Yes, it is enough to process about 15 rolls.

Q: 4. How much chemical mixed with water for 2 rolls of 35mm ?

A: There are a few different dilutions that can be used with Ilford Ilfosol-3 Film Developer for Black and White Film (500ml).

Q: 5. new to developing film. I have a question so if I am using this to develop one roll of tri-x film how much developer do I use with water? I am having trouble understanding the ratio when it says 1:9? And fixer?

A: I don't remember the water-to-developer ratio for Ilfosol, but using the 1:9 ratio you mention - 1:9 means 1 part developer to 9 parts water. So, when developing one roll of film, determine how much mixed developer you need - often you can find this info on the bottom of your developing tank - for example, my developing tank says I need 300ml to develop one roll of 35mm (135) film, so for this I would mix 30ml of developer with 270ml of water. As for fixer, the ratio of concentrate to water depends on which fixer you are using. I use Ilford Rapid Fixer, which is mixed at a 1:4 ratio (1 part concentrate to 4 parts water). So with the 300ml tank mentioned above, I would mix 60ml of fixer concentrate to 240ml of water. In my experience, with mixing ratios, the low number is the for the concentrate and the higher number is for water.Hope this helps and good luck.

Q: 6. What is shelf life of unopened package of ID-11 powder? Thanks.

A: If it stays perfectly dry it will last for years. It begins to oxidize after it mixes with water and is then exposed to air light and heat.

Q: 7. does this really work?

A: Yes

Q: 8. I'm having a hard time choosing between this one and the DD-X. I've seen some reviews that say the DD-X works great with 100-200 ISO films, so I'm not sure what this one offers that the DD-X doesn't have. What am I missing here? Thanks.

A: Ilford Ilfosol-3 Film Developer for Black and White Film is a bit more contrasting than Ilford Ilfosol-3 Film Developer for Black and White Film. The developer works best with film such as Pan-F, FP4 Plus and Delta 100 Professional and is not recommended if you are using replenish technics. On the other hand the Ilford ILFOTEC DD-X Developer can be used with high and low speed film because it has a smother transitions throughout all the tones producing easy print negatives.

Q: 9. How long does it survive after being opened?

A: When it starts to turn dark i no longer use it

Q: 10. Do you need to use wetting agent after you finish developing?

A: While not absolutely required, it is likely the best solution (pun unintended) to avoid streaks after developing.

[Film Developer] This worked exactly as described. I used it to develop some Ilford HP5 Plus and every thing came out great for me. As long as you have air tight containers to store you stock in this is quite a deal with 5 liters of stock for just $.

[0.325 lb] it was fairly easy to mix up, trickiest part is getting the temperature of the water right but once mixed and cooled, I cooled it to 20c it developed my roll of ilford delta 400 nicely, vary happy with the results.

[Powder] It's ID-11 powder developer, in a box, to make 5 liters of stock solution. It functions similarly to D76, in that dev times are available and good results are achievable with nearly all black and white films out there.

Mixing is fairly straightforward, though it requires an appropriately sized mixing vessel. Using warm distilled water and a hand-operated stirring stick, it took a few minutes for the last few grains of powder to dissolve, but they eventually did. I keep the stock solution in 5 separate 1-liter bottles, and although it's only been a week, I see no effects of oxidation. (Ilfosol 3, my previous developer of choice, had noticeable oxidation after the first day.)

The instructions (which are printed on the inside of the box) are clear and concise, though additional info is available on the Ilford website. Because the box has all of the most important information available at a glance, I trimmed it, flattened it, and pinned it up by my workbench.

The results with Plus line films (HP5, FP4, etc) are consistent and well balanced. Fine grain, full tonal range, etc. It has none of the clumpiness of grain that Ilfosol 3 tends to get with HP5.

All in all, it's a standard, well-known powder developer formulation that behaves very consistently from day-to-day. At this price, it is comparable to Ilfosol 3, even for one-shot use--but it can be reused for greater economy, especially if you do not push process frequently.

[0.325 lb] I used to rely on D76 but now that I'm processing in smaller batches the 1 liter packaging of ID-11 is more cost effective. And it turns out to give me pretty much identical results.

[Powder] I love the long tonal range I achieve by using ID11 diluted 1:3 with HP5 120!

[Film Developer] I’ve been using ID-11 for about 14 years now. Mostly with HP5 in 120 and 35mm. I use it 1:1 one-shot. The developer provides the best balance of sharpness, shadow detail and graininess. Ilford just recently repackaged the developer and it was out of stocks for months. I’ve just mixed up a batch of the newer repackaged ID-11 and happy to find it works same as it always has! I highly recommend this developer!

[0.325 lb] A great general purpose developer, I use it for a variety of B&W films. Consistent results. It is easily mixed in two parts. I went with powdered developer for ease of shipping to cut back on weight.

[Film Developer] This with D-76 are my go to developers. The ID-11 produces sharp images with good contrast.

[0.325 lb] I get great results with ID-11. It is easy to use and lasts well. If properly stored I get good results well beyond the stated shelf-life of the mixed developer. Make sure you have sufficient glass storage containers for the full volume when mixed and can move part-filled containers to a smaller container to minimize the air inside during storage. I wish it came in a size between the 1 liter and 5 liter quantities.
