Dedicated to the Sony VG-C5 Vertical Grip for Camera Accessoriesa9 III mirrorless camera, the Sony VG-C5 Vertical Grip for Camera Accessoriesoffers both extended battery and a more comfortable grip when shooting in the vertical orientation. The grip accepts either one or two NP-FZ100 batteries to increase the effective battery life for longer shooting sessions, and the batteries can be charged in the grip while attached to the camera via the body's USB port. Compared to previous-generation vertical grips, the VG-C5 also has refined circuitry that supports parallel power supply to provide even longer effective operation times and and the remaining battery life for both batteries can be indicated on the camera display.

The grip's design maintains the same layout as the camera body itself, and includes a secondary shutter button and Multi-Selector for intuitive use, as well as a secondary C5 front custom button. The grip is built from magnesium alloy and is dust and moisture resistant to match the weather-sealing of the camera itself.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Sony VG-C3EM Vertical Grip have a thread so it can be mounted on a tri-pod?

A: YES

Q: 2. Can the grip work with only one battery?

A: This grip has the ability to hold two NP-FZ100 batteries.

Q: 3. Will this be the grip for the NEW Sony Alpha A7Siii ??

A: Yes, this grip is compatible with the A7Siii.

Q: 4. Are there any camera cages available that fit this grip with the a9iii?

A: Currently, no cages have been made that will fit the Sony A9III with the Sony VG-C5 Vertical Grip.

Q: 5. Is it compatible with the upcoming sony a7 iii?

A: Hi Andy, Yes it is.

Q: 6. Does this work with the A7R IIIa?

A: Yes. This will only fit the A7RIII/A7RIIIA, A7III, and A9 cameras.

Q: 7. Recommendation for something similar compatible with the Sony A6500?

A: Hi Ernesto, there is no Sony vertical grip for the a6500 camera. -Anthony

Q: 8. So older Sony grips for the mirrorless bodies (A7IV, A1, etc) will or won’t work on this A9 III?

A: The Sony VG-C5 Vertical Grip is compatible with the Sony A9III camera. It is common for camera manufactures to offer new battery grips for new models. The older grips will not fit the A9III.

Q: 9. Does the RRS L bracket for the rIII fit on the bottom of the battery grip?

A: The RRS base plate for the a9 and a7R3 will not screw into the bottom of the battery grip. I am wondering if it is possible to get a longer screw that will make it work with the grip, but the base plate itself has a ridge to stabilize it on the camera body, and that would leave a separation between the plate and the bottom of the grip. One of the reasons I bought the grip was to use it for star trails so that I can leave the camera shooting overnight until the batteries run out. Obviously I would need to attach the camera plus grip to the tripod, and so far as I can tell, this plate won't do the job.

Q: 10. I know this is a battery grip for the camera but how many actual batteries COME with the battery grip ?

A: My answer is the same as everyone elses! No batteries with the battery grip!

[0.875 lb] Much more ergonomic, added a missing dial. Of course you need an A9III to use it, but we can hope this will be the new grip on an updated A1.

[1/4"-20 Female] Product: Absolutely love this grip! Adds so much more battery life and even more stability on hand held shots. Especially paired with 24-70 GM. Makes the weight worthy of great hand held motion. Was even able to balance that set up with the grip attached on my Ronin S!

Pros: BATTERY LIFE of course. More hand friendly. Feels more secure than without it.

Cons: honestly, can’t really think of any at the moment. It just provides all the needs for both of Video and photo work.

I did a full 10 hour event without having to replace any batteries. 4K video and raw photography. Coming from the a6500 to an a7iii. It was amazing!

[0.875 lb] The usual good Sony build quality but with the new and improved ergonomics from the A9 III. Having both the C5 button and the assignable rear dial added are excellent. I have noticed that the overall fit of the grip to the A9 III bodies is better than what I have with the previous generation grip on my A7RV.

My only wish for this setup is the lack of battery handling options. The camera will just draw off both batteries in the grip simultaneously as long as they are near the same charge level. My preference would be to draw down one battery then move to the next which would allow for being able to make battery changes of an individual battery at more convenient times. Hopefully this can be added as a selectable setting in a future firmware update for the A9 III.

[0.875 lb] The look and feel blends naturally with the camera. I had a brief issue with the shutter button on the grip accidentally taking photos until I realized it could be locked.

[0.875 lb] High quality grip and several options in regards to control.

[0.875 lb] The way it seats in the camera is very snug, no contact points that seem to damage anything on the body and vice versa.

[1/4"-20 Female] The grip makes the camera much nicer to hold. It fits snug and feels like part of the camera. The gap between the camera and the grip that others have mentioned is very very small. You have to hold it at just the right angle and really look for it to see it. Sure the battery door could be better, but when it's closed it's solid and I don't think it will break during use. I generally wish everything on Sony cameras was a little more heavy duty.
