Explore the world of natural sounding timbres or create brand new ones with the intellijel Plonk, a physical modelling percussion synthesizer in Eurorack format. Plonk focuses on realistic percussion sounds, but it’s equally capable of creating hyperreal unearthly tones with the ability to seamlessly morph between the two.

Punchy kick drums, snappy snares, shimmering chimes, and deep biting bass tones are some of Plonk’s specialties. Designed in collaboration with Canadian physical modelling experts Applied Acoustics Systems, Plonk is bound to be a crowd pleaser. Use quick strikes and long decays or hold the gate open and let the ever-evolving soundscapes through while you modulate and morph between presets with CV. The module includes a ribbon power cable.

  • Plonk uses a technique known as physical modelling to synthesize, with great realism, the way in which sound is produced by acoustic instruments. The Plonk module is, itself, focused primarily on creating percussive sounds—both pitched and unpitched; natural and unnatural; acoustic-sounding or totally electronic.
  • Plonk does this by breaking sound creation into two distinct elements—the exciter and the resonator. The exciter is a mathematical model of the device used to strike a particular surface. Plonk, because it’s percussion oriented, has two types of exciters: one modelled on a mallet, and the other, providing a noise source. The resonator is a virtualization of the object being struck, which vibrates, resonates, and creates the body of a sound. Plonk offers several types of resonators: beam, marimba, drumhead, membrane, plate, and string.
  • Plonk provides numerous parameters that let you shape, mold, and design both the exciter and the resonator, thus enabling you to synthesize the sound of striking or scraping almost any type of object—real or imagined. In this way, Plonk can accurately model the sounds of kicks, snares, toms, cymbals, claps, tablas, congas, and all manner of traditional percussion instruments. It can also model pitched percussive instruments, like vibes, marimbas, and even bass or guitar-like tones. Of course, it additionally excels at modelling instruments that heretofore never existed.
  • Best of all, the sounds created by Plonk are not static—any sound you design can respond dynamically to velocity as well as four different modulation inputs. This means the sound of Plonk can change completely from note-to-note (or strike-to-strike). Because of this, Plonk is actually a duophonic (2-voice) module, which lets the sound of one note decay naturally when a second note (possibly employing an entirely different set of modelling values) is struck. Thus, hitting a new note does not choke the sound of the previously struck note (unless you want it to, of course)

  • Plonk stores up to 128 patches in its internal memory, and it ships with many presets programmed by professional sound designers and composers. You may overwrite these patches, if you wish, and banks of patches may be transferred via MIDI System Exclusive over Plonk’s built-in mini-USB port to facilitate offline storage by programs or websites that support this capability.
  • Plonk was developed in cooperation with Montreal-based Applied Acoustics Systems—physical modelling pioneers, and the creators of Tassman, Lounge Lizard, String Studio, Ultra Analog, Chromaphone, and numerous other plugins. It is with great pleasure that intellijel brings the potential of this physical modelling technology to a hands-on, CV-laden device capable of the sort of dynamic control and sonic exploration that modular synthesists demand.

Q: 1. I see the GPS module is compatible with the Ronin 4D. When used together, will it write GPS metadata into the 4D video files?

A: DJI does not mention that you will be able to receive metadata. DJI says it allows you use the DJI Ronin 4D with the Ronin-S External GPS Module, it can enhance the stabilization performance of the gimbal roll axis during rapid acceleration.

Q: 2. does the focus module fit with with Pan + Tilt (Dual HeadONE)?

A: The HeadONE is not listed under compatible products. This focus module is compatible with the HeadPLUS and the HeadPLUS PRO.

Q: 3. Where can I buy the magnetic adapter?

A: Please see attached link for BH #HAHLM600CL • MFR #HL-MODULE-600CLAMP and for B&H # HAHLM360CL MFR # HL-MODULE-360CLAMP 360: https://bhpho.to/3oeaGuS 600: https://bhpho.to/3pN8Scv

Q: 4. Does this unit provide connection to Broncolor Grafit & Verso power packs equipped with original RFS system?

A: I contacted Sekonic concerning your inquiry. According to Sekonic, the original RFS receiver found in the older packs such as the older Broncolor Grafit A4 RFS Power Pack and the Broncolor Verso A2 RFS Power Pack work on 900 Hz radio frequency. The new transmitters/receivers which are found in the newer kits work on RFS 2/2.1/2.2, which use the 2.4 GHz radio frequency. As such, the newer radios cannot directly communicate with the older wireless radio system, and the Sekonic RT-BR Broncolor Transmitter Module would not talk to the power packs you own. As a work-around, you may purchase a Broncolor RFS 2 Receiver, B&H # BRRFS2R, and connect it to the sync terminal on your older power packs. While you will not have power control capability, you will be able to trigger the older power packs from a Sekonic meter with the installed RT-BR Broncolor transmitter module.

[0.495 lb] I've been using the Volca Sample and it's great... but sometimes you JUST want to play with a siloed drum machine. There are SO many settings/parameters to control/change each instrument. Loving this so far and can't wait to make some solid EBM music with it.

[Eurorack Power] I need a mount for a Chauvet Obey 3 controller. Needed to get it on my percussion rack set-up. Decided against drilling unit so I used Industrial Velcro. Worked great! A little pricey for a piece of plastic. bUT GOT THE JOB DONE!!

[Eurorack Module] Wow! I’ve had this drum machine for just a few hours and already I can tell I’ve barely scratched the surface of what this machine is capable of. There is so much this machine can do, it’s a shame to call it just a drum machine. It’s really a drum machine and a synthesizer. The synth engine is really, really incredible with multiple areas of sound manipulation. The step sequencer is intuitive and responsive. There’s not one thing I can say that’s negative about this synth! It’s perfect.

[0.495 lb] B&H hooked it up. They got me this awesome digital drum synth in no time. Once I opened it up and plugged it in the magic began. All of the preprogrammed sounds are so inspiring, and they are easy to tweak once you flick through the manual. It's easy to get the hang of, and it's easy to create your own kits. Just be sure to keep the manual handy so you can know what you're doing. The manual is also how all manuals should be. Not long, but thoroughly explains everything. Another thing you should consider with this synth is a solid kick pedal. I picked up a roland KT-10 and highly recommend it. Feels like you're really playing drums, but with a world of sounds, none of which are sample based. The pads respond to how hard you hit, which makes ghost notes possible and the sounds can vary greatly. There is also midi, so you can hook up to a computer for sample based stuff, or hook it up to a hardware brain for some good ole fashioned step sequencing. I can't recommend this thing enough. Get it from B&H for a quick turnaround and you can get to jamming.

[5.8 x 4 x 3.3"] The Korg Volca Drum is a super fun & creative percussion synthesizer. This Volca definitely is unique. It offers six parts each with layers of two individual sounds per part that can be edited separately or together. Programming is very immediate and the controls invite tweaking without having read the manual. However there are a few settings that aren't immediately intuitive which are accessed with the edit/step button and then scrolled through by the select/parameter knob. These potentially overlooked settings really do add to the sound giving bit reduction, wave folding, overdrive, panning, and gain adjustment. The three distortions here add a bit of grit to the sound and in my experience don't degrade the sound too much either, being mostly consistently useable at maximum settings. The motion record opens up the sound design potential quite a bit even if it is a shame that motion recording isn't available for the resonator parameters. I especially enjoy motion recording the rate of the LFO modifier. So many types of synthetic percussion can be made with this synth and, with choke groups, you can treat multiple sounds as a single instrument set. Programming on the Volca Drum is a joy. I plan on holding onto mine probably forever.
