With the Celestron StarSense Explorer 125mm f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope, exploring the wonders of the universe is as simple as 1-2-3:

     1. Dock your smartphone

     2. Launch the StarSense Explorer smartphone app

     3. Observe the moon, planets, stars, and more

This innovative integration of smartphone and telescope offers beginner astronomers a fast and (more importantly) easy way to discover what's up in the night sky and where to view it. The StarSense Explorer app uses your phone's camera to find objects of interest and guides you to move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bull's-eye turns green.

Optically, the 125mm primary mirror gathers copious amounts of light to provide detailed views of the lunar surface and planetary features. It has the ability to reach beyond our solar system and view bright deep-sky objects. Supporting the telescope and StarSense holder is a basic manual yoke mount with a simple control handle that lets you move the telescope quickly and easily according to the app's direction to find your object of interest. It allows you to precisely track the object when you want to view it for extended periods. A two-section aluminum tripod provides a wide adjustable height to accommodate a variety of viewing positions and users. This makes the telescope easy to transport when you have to carry it to remote viewing locations.

          Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the mirror parabolic? Or spherical?

A: A large 8” parabolic primary mirror with XLT coatings helps you make the most of StarSense technology. Locate faint, deep-sky objects in seconds and see them in more detail than ever before.

Q: 2. Hello ,. can we take images using this scope? or connect pc?

A: There are different digiscopeing adapters for smartphones, point&shoot cameras and cameras with interchangeable lenses.

Q: 3. Four questions, is it compatible to Samsung Galaxy? Do the lenses contain eye cups to block out external light? What the maximum degrees of altitude for viewing on the tripod? What is the maximum height of the tripod? My last telescope made it difficult if not impossible to view anything above 40 degrees and when looking I had to actually get on my knees on the ground and no eyecups.

A: Yes it is compatible with any Android or Apple IOS smart phone. The eyepieces that come with the telescope do not have eyecups. Eyecups are not usually needed for astronomy since you are using the telescope in the dark or near dark conditions. There are optional eyepieces that you can buy that have eyecups.

Q: 4. I have Nikon DSLR can this telescope accommodate this camera? Thanks

A: The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ 114mm f/9 AZ Reflector Telescope is not recommend for use with a Nikon camera due to the weight.

Q: 5. I am a first time telescope user looking for a telescope I can attach my small Olympus M4/3 camera to for astrophotography. Would this be a good one for that?

A: The ïdeal scope"for astro photography would be a Cassegrain type of reflector. However, you will not finf one in the $180. price range. With that said the next best would be a reflector like the Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ 114mm f/9 AZ Reflector Telescope BH #CESSELT114R • MFR #22452 You will need a camera mount to attach to the scope. Celestron SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter for All Refractor and Reflector Telescopes which Accept 1.25" Eyepieces - Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter BH #CETA1.25 • MFR #93625 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202135-REG/Celestron_93625_SLR_35mm_OR_Digital.html And a T-ring to attach to your camera body. Q: 9. Hi, do you have to plug this in the wall socket ? If yes then can it be used overseas with 220 volt or only 110

A: The Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ 130mm f/5 AZ Reflector Telescope BH #CESSEDX130R • MFR #22461 has no motor or power movements, stickily manual. Check out some of the YouTube videos on the product.

Q: 10. Can you see saturns rings with this? Is it clear? Also what would I need to buy to attach my Nikon d7500 to take photos?

A: Yes, you can view Saturn very clearly through the StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ. We recommend that you purchase a T-Ring for Nikon Camera #93402 and a Universal Barlow and T-Adapter 1.25" #93640 to take short exposure of the moon or bright planets. Because the telescope does not come with an equatorial tracking mount, you will not be able to take long exposure images. A Smartphone Adapter such as the Basic Smartphone Adapter, 1.25” #81035 is also available to help align your smartphone's camera lens with the telescope's eyepiece for short exposures. The Universal Barlow lens will also double the power of the eyepieces that came with the telescope.

[Yes] Super easy to setup to view through the eyepiece. Moon images are amazing.

Only fault I can see is the vagueness of the phone use with the telescope. Not a deal breaker for me because it wasn't a feature I pursued.

[Yes] First time owner of a scope and I'm happy with this purchase. I have only used it twice since getting it but I saw the moon through it and it was an incredible thing to see through lens and with my very own eyes that it did not look real! I could not believe the detail I was seeing through this telescope. Great price and you can always add on eye pieces just like a camera for more depth. Definitely recommend this telescope.

[f/10] So far it has been a great telescope to learn the basics and a few other things to view the night sky.

[Alt-Azimuth] As a beginner enthusiast this scope really worked for me! The first time looking at the moon was awesome, I saw Jupiter's moons, and Saturn's ring (writing this in CA during October 2022 so you have an idea of what is visible around 10pm)! All with very limited ability. I would say the hardest part about this scope is lining it up with distant objects. The red dot finder isn't the most accurate even after several adjustments but it gets the job done. It is quite wobbly and tracking far away objects is very difficult without slow motion controls. The app works okay, I haven't been able to really use it to it's full potential. If you are looking to buy a scope, I think this would make a great first purchase. It was easy to put together and I have had a lot of fun with it! I watched two reviews about it and it really helped with the general idea of how to use this scope. It is mainly for planets and nearby objects, not necessarily for deep space objects. But in the right hands and in the right low light areas, I am sure you could find some cool stuff! Again, my biggest problem with it is tracking far away objects when using the 10mm eye piece (it comes with a 25mm - 40x zoom - and 10mm -100x zoom). Making small adjustments is kind of hard and then you have to wait for the wiggles (scientific term) to go away. A better stand might be worth the purchase as well as the one it comes with is lower quality.

[Rack-and-Pinion] We love our new telescope! Was packaged wonderfully, all items easy to find and identify. Shipping was super fast and product arrived in excellent condition.
It didn't take too long to put together, the instructions were easy to follow. It didn't take too long to figure out how to set up the phone app either. The best advice I found was take off the phone case as it can interfere with the camera adjustment.

Within two hours we were looking at the Moon, Jupiter (and four moons), Uranus, Orion Nebula, Sirius, etc.
The amazing part of this is, it wasn't super dark. Our neighbors have a very bright light they keep on all night long that shines right onto our deck (and into our kitchen window) I was skeptical with all the lights but this telescope said it could work in the city and it does!
Very excited to take this someplace dark and see much more.

Very happy with B&H due to the quality, promptness and customer service. I had tried to buy this somewhere else first and it arrived damaged and took 30 days to get my money returned, during that time I researched where else to buy a telescope and was very happy to find B&H.

[1.25"] I bought this scope as an upgrade to my etx 90. I felt I needed a bigger scope for deep sky objects. I have only had this scope out about four or five times and it is awesome jumping from a 3.5 in to an 8-in scope let me tell you.! I was worried about not having tracking but it's a different type of experience it's a freedom that you don't get with a scope that has tracking . I like the fact that you just kind of grab it and look at something you don't have to push any buttons you don't have to program anything you don't even have to use the starsense, if you see something in the sky you want to check out grab it and move it over there. My skies are not very dark around here but I was still able to make out m13 more of a smudge due to light polluted skies but it was still cool, Andromeda Galaxy looked real good and of course the moon Saturn and Jupiter looked amazing, I needed a filter for the moon, it way too bright. The scope is not very hheav to move especially if you separate the base carrying them out one at a time is fine. I like the knobs to adjust the tension you can get it just right. The starsense works good it's accurate to the point where it will put the object in or near the field of view of a 24 mm eyepiece but I think I need to align it better. We did try a little astrophotography using a Sony crop sensor camera in the 2-in section of the focuser ( we did not have enough focus adjustment using the 1.25 adaptor) and we took a real nice picture of Saturn. If you are on the fence go for it you will not be disappointed
