The F4-424 is designed with a tool-free hard disk tray, removing the need for any tool during hard disk installation. The F4-424 also features TerraMaster's unique Push-Lock design, which automatically locks the hard disk on insertion to prevent it from coming loose or going offline. As a result, it is extremely convenient for users who need to replace hard disks frequently for data exchange, as their installation takes less than 10 seconds.

To facilitate the installation of M.2 SSDs, TerraMaster has specially designed a side sliding cover for the F4-424 chassis, which is simply pushed aside to install M.2 SSDs. TerraMaster also provides hand-tightened screws, making it easy to install an SSD within 5 seconds.

The F4-424 features an intelligent temperature-controlled fan, which ensures optimal working conditions by automatically adjusting fan speed according to hard disk temperature. It also has a dedicated ventilation channel for M.2 SSDs to accommodate hybrid storage applications. Even under full load, the temperature of anyM.2 SSDs can be kept within a reasonable range.

The unit's close placement to the user has required a design that achieves greatly reduced noise to meet the strict requirements for these levels in desktop products. The high-speed rotation of disks and heads in HDDs when reading and writing produces vibrations with noticeable noise. These vibrations may resonate with the product's cavity and amplify the overall noise. To combat this, besides incorporating additional shock absorbing measures, TerraMaster's engineers have designed numerous special sound-absorbing panels in the new structure to minimize noise. Testing has shown that the new generation of products achieve noise levels 50% lower than the previous generation's, with a noise level in standby mode of only 21 dBA.

[1x 120 mm Fan] Software is intuitive, drive trays feel a little brittle. Performance is good, 2 2.5Gbps is excellent.

Would recommend a foam pad to sit on if noise is an issue. Also enterprise drives are noisey.

[1x 120 mm Fan] Synology is pretty standard and setup was pretty easy. I even rethought it and changed the name of the device, the workspace and added my fully-qualified domain name. After that I removed it from the online site and added it back without issue. It claims a Max of 12TB x 2, but I used two WD 14TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5 Internal NAS HDD and it had no issue recognizing the full capacity. Of course those are a marketing 14TB as opposed to a real 14TB, but still. No issues.

[1 x 90 W] The NAS seems to be a pretty flexible unit. I like the app ecosystem, and the fact that it just runs docker containers on x86 implies I could probably just run whatever I wanted to if I needed. I installed home assistant to free up another SBC I was running, and it seems to run fine with it. Right now I have a pair of 4tb wd red plus in raid 1, and setup was painless. It had me update firmware on first boot, which was about 5 minutes. After that it offered a guided tour, which you could skip, and that was it. Once it was through it started synching the drives, and I was able to set up some samba shares while it finished. Had 3 computers using it as a backup target within an hour. (Why did MS decide to hide local backup options away? I don't want to use onedrive!)

Good enclosure with plenty of flexibility and choice!
