$686.85 $865.43

The Tiffen 4.5" Low Light Ultra Contrast Filtercan be applied to purposely increase detail within shadow regions while photographing an image or while recording video under low-light conditions. By distributing ambient illumination to darker areas within a scene, this filter is also useful in helping to uniformly balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows. Overall contrast is reduced while flare and halation around highlights is purposely limited.

This filter has a grade of 2. Grades of 1, 3, and 4 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the light transmission?

A: Tiffen does not list the actua light transmission on the Tiffen 67mm Ultra Clear Digital HT Filter. But it is a clear filter and blacks almost no light.

Q: 2. Can I screw on the Nikkor's lens hood if I attach to the lens a Tiffen filter? (I have the 24-120mm 4.0 Nikkor's lens)

A: The filter does not add any additional width to the front of your lens. If you can get your lens hood over the end of your lens without the filter, you should be able to do the same thing with the filter.

Q: 3. Thickness of the filter

A: 4mm

Q: 4. are there male and female tread on filter?

A: The filter is threaded both male and female and can be stacked closely. Nice.

Q: 5. will the 62 ultra clear digital HT Filter fit on a sony FDR AX 100B camcorder?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 62mm Ultra Clear Digital HT Filter will fit the Sony FDR-AX100 camcorder.

Q: 6. My old Celestar came with five Parks 1.25" filters, including their "ALP" (anti-light pollution) filter. My yard gets heavy light pollution, so I'd pay for a more expensive filter if I were sure it would give me much better performance. Any filter comparisons out there?

A: The Celestron filter is effective in light pollution situations. However, I cannot compare it to the filter that you already have and don't know if it will be any more reducing of light pollution in your yard. My suggestion is to buy the filter and compare. Q: 7. Can i put on an ND filter on top of the protective filter?

A: Yes, so long as it is the same filter thread size. If you use an 82mm UV protective filter, you can use an 82mm ND.

Q: 8. The description on this CPL makes a point of specifying that its non-coated . Is that supposed to be a good thing? Aren't multi-coated filters better at controlling reflections than non-coated filters? Since this filter is clearly aimed at professionals and considering its price, shouldn't it be coated?

A: We have been manufacturing these filters for many years for use on motion pictures and TV shows with no issues. Multi-coating helps on round screw in photos for still photography and thinner MPTV filters, however our filters are 4mm thick which helps to prevent reflections. This filter is also made of the highest quality Water White glass. In addition, most of the time these filters are being inserted in a matte box, which also helps to prevent reflections. Tiffen has won two Academy Awards and Two Emmy's for our filters which come with a 10 year warranty, Schneider has not won these awards. In reviewing the Schneider Circular True Polarizing Filter 4x4 on their website and here on the B&H website I see no mention of this filter being multi-coated.

Q: 9. Will this filter minimize reflection and glare from a subject wearing coated eyeglasses during a portrait session?

A: The K&F Concept Nano-X Series Ultra-Low Reflection UV Filter (77mm) will not minimize reflection and glare from a subject wearing coated eyeglasses during a portrait session. The K&F Concept Classic Series Slim Multicoated Circular Polarizer Filter (77mm), BH #KFCPLSBLMC77, will minimize reflection and glare from a subject wearing coated eyeglasses.

Q: 10. What is the differences between this model and http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/398871-REG/Schneider_68013038_138_mm_True_Linear_Polarizing.htmlIt seems like its just different descriptions but the same product. The only noticeable difference is a 10 year warranty on the more expensive model. What exactly does this cover? Does it cover it breaking?

A: Basically, there are two types of Polarizing filters; Linear and Circular. Linear are used for manual focusing as they can confuse AF sensors. Circular filters are designed for AF lenses and cameras but can be used on manual focus cameras as well. For more details on the two, please see: http://bhpho.to/MF21zoThe Schneider 138mm True-Linear Polarizing Glass filter is optimized for motion picture and television cameras. Having an extinction ratio of ER 374, the Schneider True-Pol is 12-times more effective than other polarizing filters. The 138mm Circular Ultra Polarizing Filter from Tiffen is a similar filter yielding a more intense look to your images and is designed for AF cameras. Because of manufacturing differences, circular polarizing filters cost more than comparable linear filters. Both filters come with ten year warranties that cover manufacturing or workmanship defects.
