Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work well outside on a paved or smooth surface, like a sidewalk, driveway, boardwalk, etc

A: Yes. The following wheels are made of industrial polyurethane and hold up very well under heavy use.

Q: 2. Did any roller bag to fit Matthews Hollywood Baby Junior Double Riser?

A: The Matthews Hollywood Baby Junior Double Riser Stand (Silver, 9.6') will fit in this rolling case: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1618174-REG/hprc_hprc6500wempblb_6500_wheeled_rolling_resin.html/specs

Q: 3. Would a Matthews Infinity Arm plus this Matthews Hollywood Baby Jr. Triple Riser Stand make a decent tripod stand in for a lightweight mirrorless camera? https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251333-REG/matthews_429627_infinity_arm_kit.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251333-REG/matthews_429627_infinity_arm_kit.html/a

A: I'm afraid that you have no very good idea of how big and tremendously heavy the Riser Stand is, so I'd have to say that you'd be insane to use it as a stand-in for a tripod to hold a lightweight camera. Yes, the Stand is on wheels, but better to use a really lightweight stand from any one of many tripod manufacturers, that you could pick and move with a few fingers on one of your hands.

Q: 4. What are the measurements of the base when closed? Can they fit in a lighting bag?

A: A rough measurement around the three folded legs was 28 , about 10 between two legs and the folded height was just shy of 54 . As stated in a previous question/answer, I don't see packing this thing into a case. it's already a beast and adding the weight of a case would be a show stopper (for me). It's built like a tank so It'll handle some banging around. I've used this indoor and outdoor when I wanted a solid base and weight to counter wind. Just hope you're not carrying it far.

Q: 5. What clamps are available to attache for a small monitor?

A: It really depends on your monitor. If it's a monitor 9 inches or less you can get a matthews baby to 3/8 adapter and then attach a tripod ball head and then your monitor onto that for total flexibility. There's many ways to rig small monitors. You basically need to see what screw hole is on your monitor and then get the adapter for it. It's either 1/4 20 or 3/8 screw hole.If it's a bigger monitor then you need a different set up. I have a yoke set up for my 17 marshall monitor which marshall themself makes. Good luck!

Q: 6. Can a boom arm be safely added to this stand? If so, which is recommended?

A: Yes it can be used with a boom arm safely.

Q: 7. What is the closed length when the wheels are folded in?

A: H386025 Baby Jr Double riser is 48 1/2 tall and the H386020 Baby Jr Triple riser is 53 .

Q: 8. Are all of the column extension sections made of steel?

A: Yes, each column extension of the Matthews Hollywood Baby Jr. Triple Riser Stand is made of steel.

Q: 9. can i remove the wheels??

A: Not without permanently damaging the stand. But there is no need to do so as the wheels all have VERY stable locking mechanisms. Once you lock the wheels, the stand won't move. In fact, locking the wheels also locks the rotation of the caster, so it doesn't even shift from the connection of the caster to the leg. If you don't want wheels, you should get a C-stand instead.

Q: 10. how high does this stand go?

A: Maximum Working Height 147" / 373.4 cm

[5/8" Stud] Its rock solid and rolls smooth. Its heavy but it has to be. Maybe it'd be nice if it was air-cushioned but none of the stands of this nature seem to be ..... I had a model trip over one of the legs but it barely budged....Excellent!

[Chrome] I'm not crazy about gushing 5-star reviews, and yet this is one. This seems like the perfect stand for me. I wanted something sturdy as an oak tree, with wheels or accepting of casters, able to take a 'real' boom to hold a monolight with a large modifier. This is the stand. I unboxed it, rolled it around, and started feeling I might finally be a pro :-) That's about it, easy to adjust and converts to a straight stand in seconds without the wheels coming off. Only thing to mention is the weight, it's a beast, but I knew that and decided I could live with a little exercise when it came time to lug it around in exchange for the benefits. As far as I can tell this is the least I needed to spend to be happy with a stand, and though it's not inexpensive I think this is the price point for me and I will probably buy more of these as I grow my studio.

[Chrome] This light stand is one the nicest, well built stand I have ever used. A little heavy to take it on location but its casters rolls so freely that you do not need to pick the stand while you are using it in the studio. This stand is well balanced and take heavy weight, boom or any studio lights. It is not air cushioned so care is needed when you move up and down the risers.

[Built-In] It's extremely useful to lift a light source way up high and very easily make micro-adjustments to its location/ aim. You should definitely get a boom to go w/ it. Caveat: When you have anything of weight mounted on the baby-pin tip, make SURE you know which riser will come down when you loosen a height-adjustment screw otherwise a painful and bloody pinch-wound may result. Fortunately each riser section is rubber O-ring dampened so like today when my pricey Profoto B1 w/ Magnum Reflector came slamming down, it' merely bounced back up (after pinching a sliver of skin off).

[Steel] I feel like I really went overboard in purchasing this. I needed something sturdy for my huge door-sized softbox, and this certainly does the trick. I don't need something that's far taller than my roof, however. I probably should have purchased something shorter and slightly more lightweight, as I shoot on location and haul my gear everywhere. But this is something that will last forever and ever and ever. I love the wheels. Why did I ever work without wheels? I want wheels on everything now. As a side note, I had trouble finding a case large enough for this light stand, which is 53 collapsed. I went with an Arriba rolling case.

[Built-In] This isn't a cheap light stand. Instead, this is a studio workhorse that you will abuse for years. And what will it do in return? It will stay upright to protect your expensive gear. The wheels make it easy to move the stands around, even with sandbags on the legs. Yes, they are expensive, and you'll want to add boom arms and grip heads and such.

[Chrome] I have a studio and purchased this stand for the profoto giant reflector 7'. It's perfect! Rolls super smooth, very sturdy. This actually isn't the correct image for the stand btw.. The stand has the attractive gold cross and has a male stud..Great stand! Better than I expected.

[Rectangular] Beauty dish on a boom arm or 72 umbrella rolls around so easily in the studio. Well built and with the boom arm the taller starting height is fine for me. I got to try a friends first so it was a no-brainer.

[Built-In] I am using this with the stand with the Avenger D600 Mini Boom, and I have put the D1 profit and a 22 inch beauty dish on it and it will hold more. I have not tried more but I see not safety concerns to this point. I did put a 10 pound sand bag on the other end of the boom but it may be for peace of mind, LOL

[22 lb] This stand is heavy for a reason - it's built like a tank! The caster design is super clever and helpful and we love how easy it is to move. Matthews continues to build quality products that are constructed to take abuse. Highly recommend!
