Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm impressed with this lens but how do I get more contrast out of it? and more color? It's rather plain-looking. Filters?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) is neutral in color and has good contrast generally speaking. You can add color filters to the lens or in post. You can shoot more contrasty lighting or add contrast in post.

Q: 2. Does this e-mount version on this lense take advantage of Sony Autofocus, say in the FX6

A: This is a manual focus lens. There is no auto focus functions that will work on this lens.

Q: 3. In a BMPCC 6K Pro camera, this 11mm equals to what mm?

A: The IRIX 11mm Lens on the BMPCC 6K Pro will become roughly a 16.5mm lens.

Q: 4. Is this lens suitable for still photography as well as for video?

A: While the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens is designed for Cinema use it would also be perfect for still photography. Keep in mind it is a manual lens with no autofocus or stabilization.

Q: 5. Does it work well with the Komodo x?

A: The IRIX 30mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Canon RF, Feet) is designed to cover full frame sensors on Canon RF mount cameras. The IRIX 30mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Canon RF, Feet) will work perfectly on the RED Digital Cinema Komodo-X. All RF mount lenses have compatibility with RED cameras with RF mounts.

Q: 6. Do these no longer communicate EXIF data as with the original Irix lenses?

A: Yes, the lens offer fully manual focus but with electronic iris control and metadata.

Q: 7. what adapter is needed to use the irix 150mm F 2.8 Macro (Canon) with a Sony A7R3?

A: The Sigma MC-11 is a good adapter to use with a Canon EF mount lens when adapting to a Sony E or FE mount camera. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3ERze7m

Q: 8. Would I be able to put a clip on mattbox on this lens to use a polarizer or would that vignette?

A: The diameter of the front of the IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) (B&H# IRC11EFI) -- not to be confused with the filter size -- is 95mm which is a very common size to which to attach a matte box. Yes, it would be possible to do so. Given the ultra wide nature of the field of view, however, there will of course be at least some amount of vignetting regardless of the size of the filter, but that is unavoidable.

Q: 9. Is this lens weather sealed?

A: There are four seals protecting against inclement weather and dust.

Q: 10. Will this lens work with (TTL) metering with SB700?

A: Yes, it will be ttl with the sb700.

[1:1] Having used IRIX lenses since initial launch of their Cinema Line, I would say the 65mm lens is a great addition to the line up. Having used it it already on a project with the RED Komodo and Canon Focal Reducer I would have to say the image it produces is great. I have not noticed any chromatic aberrations in the footage I have shot.

[1:1] Excellent for detail shots. It works as a telephoto lens but focus pull is way to fine beyond a couple of feet away from subject to really rack focus, so I would not recommend using this as a telephoto unless you can fix focus. No complaints as a macro lens though.

[86 mm] Switching to the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens from the Canon 100mm macro photo lens significantly enhanced my macro videography capabilities. The added 50mm focal length allows for closer, more detailed shots and a comfortable working distance, ideal for intricate scenes. This lens incorporates cinema-grade features, including a T3.0 aperture for superb performance in various lighting conditions, and precise control over focus and aperture, elevating the cinematic quality of your footage.

The lens's build is both durable and weather-sealed, ready for any shooting environment. Its sharpness is a standout feature, delivering crystal-clear images that showcase the finest details of your subject. This sharpness, alongside the extended focal length and cinema functionality, makes the IRIX 150mm a significant upgrade for filmmakers seeking to advance their macro cinematography. It's a powerful tool that combines creativity, control, and quality, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to step up their macro video production.

[150mm] I shoot surgical/medical and thus needed that reach (compared to the Rokinon 100mm macro I was using before) in order to remain non-invasive to a health care professional's space. I also wanted a cine version of a macro so this was perfect and really there is no other option other than another 100mm macro cine lens.
The images coming from my Fuji X-T3 with this lens are fantastic (rigged as shown using an EF to X-mount adapter). Feels like a solid lens. Not a fan of the magnetic hood but I use a matte box so no biggie. Lens cap and mount cover do suck, they feel like they could break from a drop. Focus ring is smooth but the iris ring is much looser in comparison, I wish they had the same tension.

[T3] Right out of the box it is really a heavy duty professional lens. The focus is a bit stiff, but might loosen up over use. Happy with it and looking forward to shooting with it over time.

[Sony E] I've had many lenses over the years, I often researched what others liked or believed what YouTube videos said, but this time I decided to make a choice and decide for myself if this lens was for me. From the moment I opened the box of the Irix 30mm T1.5 RF version, I knew I had made the right choice. The weight of the lens, the position of the gears and the out of the box colors paired with my Red Komodo left me speechless. The lens handles light just the way I've been looking for, and the look the lens adds to the already amazing image quality and color accuracy of R3D made this lens for me a winner. I highly recommend this lens, especially if you want a true cinema lens and desire quality and performance at an outstanding price point. Will definitely purchase more from this brand in the future.

[150mm] I got this lens for high end table top shoots and am very pleased with the quality and the build of the lens. Something I wold normally expect from significantly more expensive cine-macro lenses. It’s a bargen at that price point. The PL mount is a snug fit on my RED DRAGON and the rounded lens cap is a bit of a fail design since you can’t put the lens on its front the way you normally park lens that you don’t want to roll of your desk. But that’s the only downside of it and it didn’t affect the image waltet in any way.

[Sony E] The IRIX 150mm is an excellent choice for those looking to capture highly detailed, true-to-life close-ups. Its magnification ratio means you can get incredibly close to your subjects, rendering them in life-size on the screen, which is perfect for both professional and creative projects. The T3.0 aperture ensures that you have flexibility with light, working well in both bright outdoor settings and more controlled indoor environments.

This lens is built to last, with a robust, weather-sealed construction that can handle a variety of shooting conditions without breaking a sweat. The focus and aperture adjustments are smooth and precise, which is crucial for making those critical, on-the-fly changes during a shoot.

Image quality is where this lens truly shines, delivering sharp, clear visuals with beautiful background blur that helps your subject stand out. It's equipped with features like geared rings that are compatible with follow-focus systems, making it an excellent fit for professional video production.

While it's a bit heavier and requires manual focus, the quality and versatility it offers make it a worthy addition to your kit. Overall, the IRIX is a solid investment for filmmakers and videographers seeking exceptional detail and build quality in their work.

[Sony E] The image shows a close up of a Lego set using the IRIX 150mm lens. In that picture you can see the small rigs in the gray plastic that is not visible by just looking at it.
