[Aluminum] This camera is perfect solution of resolution.
The best camera on the market.

It seems impossible to let go of this camera.

I'm looking forward to the L mount lens coming out in the future.

I love panasonic.

[Aluminum] No amount of online review could not prepare you for the experience, I was more than happy with the handling of this 'large' mirrorless camera. The amount of customisation control available in this camera is simply amazing, made other brand camera pale in comparison. The speed of operation and the handling of this camera made me want to shoot more than other cameras, the image quality from the jpeg files is amongst the best I have seen.

I can adapt to many of my Canon and Sigma SA lenses with the CF21 adaptor, the focusing speed is certainly good enough for landscape and portraiture but I'm looking forward to more native L mount lenses from both Panasonic and Sigma to become available in the not too distant future.

The S1R is to replace my Canon because of the amazingly clear and bright viewfinder plus I can use all the lenses I have acquired over the years, so my years of investment is not wasted.

[Aluminum] I have been for more than 10 years a Nikon D700/D800/D850 shooters coupled with Panasonic 4/3 offerings when weight was an issue. The recent Panasonic G9 4/3 body was very convincing for me, so much so that the Nikon D850 stayed for weeks at home... When Panasonic announced the S1R, I could not resist but to pre-order it. It is been now 6 weeks I am using the S1R with 3 Leica SL lenses, and I am delighted. The commands (buttons and interfaces) are perfect. Inspired by Nikon, but better. One example: with the iOS app, it is possible to geotag your pictures without depleting the camera battery (contrary to Nikon). It is also possible to upload full 47Mpix files on your iOS devices (hello Nikon?). Sensor stabilisation is life saving (no such things on the D850). It is remarkable to have 2 cameras with the same User Interface with different format. I now switch between the Panasonic G9 and this S1R depending on my customers need for resolution, and the type of images wanted (long lenses with 4/3, ...). Panasonic is really slowly and steadily making a revolution in the camera world. I forgot: the Leica SL lenses have no equivalent in the Nikon world. Amazing glass, best of class.

[1.875 lb] A few things that many other camera brands could take note on. The eye gasket is round, like my eye so the benefit here is light doesn't creep in, which happens especially on all the Sony cameras and in some part the Nikon Z too. The rear illuminated buttons are a boom, as is night mode which the LCD and or EVF becomes easy to read as night without throwing light all over the place. I'm thankful for the top LCD just like the Nikon is super helpful and shows how many images you have left on the memory card and how much battery life you have left. How handy yet super simple. The button layout is excellent and coming from a99II the transition was easy. The AF after the software update is fast and snappy in almost every light condition, and pleased with the IQ of the glass I've attached to is so far. The grip is superb and unlike the Sony e-mount I can actually grip the body with authority in wet conditions. The weather proofing feels solid and well thought out giving me confidence this camera will hold out in extreme conditions.

[1.875 lb] Although it is certainly heavy - compared say to the Sony or Nikon counterparts, it's easy to hold, and the buttons are all accessible. With a full roster of Leica M lenses, and with the TL lenses at 18-20 mps, and with the new Sigma 45/2.8 (and many more L mount lenses on the horizon) it has everything that the new SL2 (whenever it becomes available) has - plus stabilization at 6 stops. And the files are beautiful from Jpg to raw.

[1.875 lb] I use cameras for fun and business. The business part of the work involves taking pictures for research, and the camera is used frequently to take pictures through a microscope. This camera is eminently suitable for this task or any task that requires meticulous photographic technique. For example, precise focusing is a must to obtain the highest resolution. This camera can achieve this end in two ways. Automatically, it relies on maximum contrast detection which works, without correction, with any AF lens you may use. Manually, this camera provides a high-resolution viewfinder or rear screen monitor for determining focus. There are several tools to ensure accurate focusing. For speed, there is peaking which displays a colored fringe around focused structures. For precision, the central part of the screen can be enlarged to see the finest details. This last is how I focus on a specimen when the camera is mounted on a microscope.

For landscape photography, I use manual focus with this camera. One of its handiest features is a distance scale displayed in the viewfinder as one turns the focusing ring. Unlike many cameras, this one shows the distance in feet. Additionally, it displays the depth of field as a green bar. This bar changes as one alter the diaphragm or zoom setting. With a wide angle lens, it is easy to set the hyperfocal distance for a given aperture or lens focal length. Features, such as this, make this camera most suitable for the careful, meticulous worker who wishes to obtain the highest quality image.

[1.875 lb] Yes is big, I come from shooting on a Micro four thirds camera so yes it feels massive, but surprisingly is very comfortable in the hands and is very well balanced, the menus are very intuitive and also it has many customizable buttons and dials that feel they are on the right place, the battery does not last as much as my other cameras but is not as bad as many review places say it is, I have not shoot video yet, as I mainly bought it for stills. I definitively recommend this product, and I was very happy when I found a refurbished one half the price with the full 1 year warranty

[1.875 lb] First version did not work on Panasonic S1H. The new one Kondor Blue sent works great. It is now a 2 piece design. Part one is dummy battery part 2 is the cable that now plugs into 12V on Kondor blue battery plate. The cable connector is threaded and the dummy battery part screws into it. I've provided a pic to show what I'm describing.

[Aluminum] It is complex and there is lots to learn, but overall it is wonderful and well made, rugged but a bit heavy.
It is my first fully digital (non slr) camera and I’m coming from a Nikon 800E. Another benefit is it would be easy to move between it and the Leica SL/SL2 since it uses the L mount.
