Speed or capacity? Not too long ago, you had to make a choice between the two. The problem is, for many professional workflows, both are critical. Everyone knows M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs offer great performance, but limited capacity. Hard drives offer great capacity, but very slow speeds by comparison. What if you could create increased SSD capacity? Sonnet makes it possible, as this card enables you to mount up to eight NVMe SSDs into a single PCIe x16 card slot and combine their capabilities for ultra-performance. This card can transform your workflow.

Add up to 64TB of storage with your own high performance M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Get amazing performance from Gen 4 SSDs.

Install in a computer or Thunderbolt expansion system PCIe x16 slot.

Up to 64TB of fast SSD storage, with up to 30,000 MB/s with the 2023 M2 chip and up to 14,000 MB/s with a 2019 Intel chip.

Create an incredibly fast media storage or scratch drive.

Connect eight SSDs to your computer via a single cable with a maximum performance of 2800 MB/s.

Install this card with your SSDs into your computer's PCIe 4.0 x16 slot to achieve superior storage performance with four SSDs configured as RAID 0. Get read speeds of up to 30,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 18,000 MB/s.

Install this card with your SSDs into your computer's PCIe 3.0 x16 slot to achieve outstanding storage performance with four SSDs configured as RAID 0. Get read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 12,000 MB/s.

The Sonnet M.2 8x4 Silent PCIe 4.0 Card is a full-height, full-length card with a 48-lane PCIe 4.0 switch and x16 interface, designed to support maximum performance. Sonnet M.2 8x4 card features include:

48-Lane PCIe 4.0 Switch

x16 slot bandwidth is available to all x4-connected SSDs, facilitating maximum speed with any combination of M.2 SSDs used

Self-Contained

Doesn't require a specific motherboard to operate or specific SSDs to support RAID features, no PCIe bifurcation required

Universal Compatibility with Mac, Windows, and Linux

Compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux computers with an x16 PCIe slot

Broad M.2 NVMe SSD Support

Works with a wide variety of M.2 NVMe Gen4 and Gen3 SSDs

Supports RAID 0, 1, and 10 with macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Supports from single (non-RAIDed) attached SSDs.

Custom silent cooling solution enables installed SSDs to maintain consistent high performance during very large file transfer operations without the use of fans.

No drivers required.

Supports S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data reporting.

Are you an Adobe After Effects user? Imagine being able to perform 4K/60p work in 32-bit linear, or even 4K/24p with high channel count EXRs (or effects in 8K) where your computer's onboard storage couldn't keep up. This card makes that possible.

Sonnet designed the M.2 8x4 Silent PCIe 4.0 Card with an effective passive cooling solution. Instead of relying on fans that can get loud, Sonnet's silent cooling effectively presents thermal throttling, enabling SSDS to maintain sustained peak performance without a peep.

Got a Thunderbolt connection, but no PCIe card slot? This card is ideal for use in Sonnet's Echo I Desktop PCIe Expansion System. The combo effectively enables you to add up to eight SSDs to any Mac (M series or Intel), Windows, or Linux computer with Thunderbolt ports.

Integrating this card into your system is easy. NVMe compliance ensures the necessary drivers are installed automatically. The M.2 8x4 uses your computer's operating system's built-in drive formatting utilities to format the SSDs. SSD health monitoring is supported through S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) data reporting, too.

[Yes, RAID 0/1] I've been using the Sonnet m.2 PCIe SSD for over a year now in my 2019 Mac Pro 7,1 and it was worked flawlessly. R/W is crazy fast. No issues. Nice to have the fast and upgradeable SSD for After Effects and current projects.

[1.58 lb] I have installed this with four PNY Technologies CS2130 2TB M.2 NVMe SSDs. I think the speed is limited by the bus since the speed of the stripe is over 6GB/s and the individual speed was nearly 3GB/s. This configuration gives me a very fast 8TB drive to use as a scratch disk, speeding up the loading and saving of video and other large projects.

[Yes, RAID 0/1] Card works exactly as expected. Added 2 pairs of NVME cards to create different raid1 arrays on my Dell Precision Workstation. Only issue with the Dell was getting the card in the correct slot to see all the drives. Great performance. No issues at all.

[Yes, RAID 0/1] Moving from my on board RAID controller to a dedicated card was a game changer.

Using my motherboard in RAID 0 had no problem with Sequential reads/writes, but the random reads were painfully slow.

I moved to a PCI riser card (Gigabytes Aorus) so I could have more drives and a possible bonus of the bifurcated PCI lanes would be a bit quicker. Same performance.

I finally bit the bullet and picked up this card. It has been FLAWLESS.

The random read performance is within spitting distance of a single drive. Absolutely thrilled with this setup.

Now I just need to get PCI4 capable stuff together so I can really put it through its paces

[Full Height] I replaced a Ableconn card that had two NVME installed but did not have a provision for a heat sink and so the cards failed after a little more than one year. The Sonnet provides for each NVME to be independently accesses and in parallel with multiple ones installed on the card and the data throughput was dramatically higher than with the Ableconn card.

The Sonnet has a very large heat sink and uses a special pad that is adhesive and also helps with heat transfer from the M.2 module to the aluminum heat sink. This should greatly extend the life of the modules.

[1.58 lb] Added 4 Samsung m.2 ssd cards to this and blazing fast under raid 0 even via the old PCIe 3 connection. The card will slightly bend when you put on all the thermo pads and tighten the heat sink but otherwise perfect. No sound and heat managed very well.

[Yes, RAID 0/1] I have one of these card with 4 M.2 2T 3500 Mbps drives. I had a BIOS glitch and thought I lots the card so I bought another one. My original card is working fine and I am adding the new card to an 8x PCI-E slot for b-roll drives. As long as you don't need RAID, it is great.

[Full Height] The board is very well designed to support maximum read and write rates for the M.2 memory modules. It took a little bit of time to install as the M.2 modules are sandwiched between two layers of heat sink material to keep the modules from overheating and throttling back.

Once installed the OS detected the new modules and then I used Widows Disk Management to format the modules and then create a RAID1 partition with the two modules mirrored.

Lots of online support options for the computer novice to integrate the new memory modules or to set up the RAID level desired.
