Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can someone please explain or help me to understand how to read the hyperfocal scale on this lens? I have never had a problem using hyperfocal scales on any of my other lenses, but this one is quite perplexing to me, there are so many values on it.

A: If you are old school and know how to use the hyperfocal scale on manual lenses, then work as you have before. If you wish, you can also use the innovative hyperfocal indication line but really it is meant for others. That is because, ever since auto focus lenses came into use, they have mostly come without manual aperture scales since they had no place for the scales to be applied. Therefore a generation of photographers has grown up not knowing what they are for or how to use them. With Irix's hyperfocal line, the new user determines what aperture they are using, moves the focus ring to line up the aperture number on the Irix hyperfocal line with the lens focus mark. Then they look to the aperture numbers on the traditional scale to see the hyperfocal distance or the area that is in acceptable focus. To old users it is not necessary, to new users it is very helpful.

Q: 2. Can we get ND filter for this lense ?

A: Yes, But a adapters are needed. Please look into the following item. Cokin Universal X-Pro Series Filter Holder Adapter Ring https://bhpho.to/37clouY Cokin X-Pro Series Filter Holder https://bhpho.to/3C9fTLZ

Q: 3. Does this lens work on the FTZ adapter for Nikon Z cameras?

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Nikon F is a manual focus and exposure lens that is compatible with Nikon Z cameras with the FTZ adapter.

Q: 4. Is this lens weather sealed?

A: There are four seals protecting against inclement weather and dust.

Q: 5. (Please ignore or delete my previous question about the difference between the FireFly and Blackstone iterations of this lens -- it is answered in the Overview -Duh! - My bad.) Are the FireFly and Blackstone editions identical in terms of image quality? Thank you!

A: yes Mark the firefly and the blackstone are identical in image quality. The only difference is between them is that the blackstone is fully weather sealed.

Q: 6. Would the Sigma MC-11 adapter for Canon EF to Sony E mount work on this lens?

A: Yes the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF compatible with the MC11.

Q: 7. Can the aperture be controlled by a dead adapter like the FotodioX Pro TLT ROKR Tilt-Shift Adapter for Nikon F Lens to Sony E?

A: The aperture in the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens is only controlled electronically. So the Fotodiox tilt/shift adapter would not be able to control the aperture.

Q: 8. Does this support the manual focus confirmation with recent DSLRs?

A: Yes, it does.

Q: 9. Would I be able to put a clip on mattbox on this lens to use a polarizer or would that vignette?

A: The diameter of the front of the IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) (B&H# IRC11EFI) -- not to be confused with the filter size -- is 95mm which is a very common size to which to attach a matte box. Yes, it would be possible to do so. Given the ultra wide nature of the field of view, however, there will of course be at least some amount of vignetting regardless of the size of the filter, but that is unavoidable.

Q: 10. Can the aperture be controlled with a dead adater like the FotodioX Pro TLT ROKR Tilt-Shift Adapter for Nikon F Lens to Sony E ?

A: The aperture in the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens is only controlled electronically. So the Fotodiox tilt/shift adapter would not be able to control the aperture.

[T4.3] After 3 months of waiting I received the lens and i had tried it for few shots. the lens is tack sharp with little distortions and some CA. This super wide angle has great colors and good contrast the only negative is that I recieved the lens with scratched cap which makes it like a used one.

[Full Frame] This is an amazinglens. The built quality is on par with Canon L lenses and Sigma Art lineup. Super wide angle with minimal distortion, the sharpness holds reasonably well all the way to the corners.

[T4.3] The Irix 11mm lens produces professional level images. I’ve owned 5 similar focal length lenses from both Sigma, Nikon, and Zeiss. This lens is by far the best. If the lens had “Nikon” or “Zeiss” badging, I would expect it to sell for $1200.

Super wide lenses, by their nature, are more difficult to focus because they have extreme depth-of-field. They challenge auto exposure metering because they include an extremely wide field of view. These are not the lens’ fault, they are the way super wide lenses operate. If you are not familiar with such lenses you’ll need to learn how to use them.

[Nikon Z] Awesome lens for scenery, landscapes, cramped interiors ... really opens things up!
Packaging
was excellent, lens was inside a sturdy metal box with heavy duty foam
inserts, inside a durable cardboard box, inside a padded cardboard box
from B&H.
This lens seems very well built, gives sharp images,
and has features I wish other lens makers would use in their lenses; the
hyper-focal distance scale, click stop infinity detent, and raised
'lever' on focusing ring to name a few.
I would definitely recommend this lens as an inexpensive, lightweight, super-ultra-wide-angle lens !!!
