[Full Frame] Procured a Nikkor 15/3.5 AIS of recent vintage and did a side by side and the Irix walks all over it. Nikon has a particular look and this copy is not a dog. It doesn't compare to the Irix. The Irix handles ghosting and flare very well with exception when pointing towards the sun. The Nikkor flare and ghosting is much worse. The Irix has less distortion, is sharp as a tack, has excellent contrast, and captures a precise rendering. It's a Zeiss killer but you didn't hear that here! Wish the lens hood was metal (I fear it will get crushed some how). The Irix was on sale for $600 w/tax at BHPhoto. It just doesn't get any better folks that this folks. I have legendary Zeiss offerings and this lens is in that league in terms of image quality. Very impressive performance! Well done Irix!!!

[Canon EF] I recently purchased the IRIX 45mm, 150mm, and this 15mm the color from all the lenses seem to match very well. This lens has very little distortion for being such a wide lens.

[15mm] 15mm on S35 is great. I thought this would be too wide and wished IRIX made a 25 or 35 but actually to compliment the existing 45 they sell this 15 is a good match feeling wide but not super distorted wide. Magnetic hoods are cool, but not so much if you are filming metalworking - all the dust just sits on those magnets. Minor quibble but the lens is great!

[T2.6] This is a really good lens. Great build quality, excellent performance, low distortion, little breathing. I'm going to get a set of these Irix Lenses, pretty impressed!

[Full Frame] This lens is perfect for nightscape photography with the Milky Way. Could be a bit sharper around the edge but hey, for that price it's perfect. Also love the hyperfocal range feature to ensure foreground and stars are sharp, as well as the removable lens hood, and the ability to use regular 95mm screw on filters, and a 100mm square filter holder capable of containing a CPL in the Irix IFH-100 Pro filter holder. I use this with the wide angle version of the Focus on Stars Bahtinov mask filter from Hungary, and my stars are nice and crisp, then I switch out the focusing filter for a night pollution filter. Irix made nightscape astrophotography a whole lot more enjoyable for me with this lens.

[Full Frame] This is my first Irix lens and I am impressed. The clarity of the pictures is amazing. They are crisp, sharp and clear.

[T2.6] I really enjoy this lens. The look of the image is sharp and feels amazing. The build is tanky. No regrets.

[Full Frame] Feels solid, but isn't overly heavy. Image quality is great and distortion is reasonable. I shoot it both full frame and S35 and it handles both well.


As others have said, it's true that the lens cap is wonky. Apparently they have a fixed one that you can order separately and hopefully that's what will ship with new copies of the lens.


I use it via an adapter and did have a little trouble finding a friendly one. Fotodiox PL-EF did NOT work. I eventually went with some no-names on eBay that did.

[Canon EF] The IRIX 15mm T2.6 Cine is my go-to for shooting in tight spaces, like car interiors. Its wide-angle capability allows for capturing extensive detail in confined areas, making it ideal for automotive shoots. The T2.6 aperture ensures excellent performance in low-light conditions, crucial for maintaining quality inside vehicles.

Balancing impressively on gimbal rigs, it proves to be a versatile workhorse, capable of handling dynamic shots with stability and clarity. Its durable build adds to its reliability, making it a trustworthy choice for demanding environments.

In short, the IRIX 15mm T2.6 combines wide-angle versatility, low-light proficiency, and rugged durability, standing out as an essential lens for producing high-quality, creative shots in limited spaces. It’s a valuable asset for any video project requiring sharp and expansive visuals in compact settings.

[Full Frame] Quality optics and build. Light for a cine prime, and easy to use. Works well on our RED Komodo. Smooth focus and aperture rings. The magnetic filter system is quick and easy. Also have the IRIX 30mm Cine T1.5. We tested both lenses and found no issues. The blue infinity marking really is at infinity and the other markings appear to be accurate as well. The only complaint is the rounded lens cap that comes with the lens. We were told that IRIX is going to offer the better, flat cap they provide with their 30mm T1.5 for this and older models. Kudos to them for that improvement. Overall, this is a surprisingly good cine prime series considering the low price.
