Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it 25mm on Canon mirrorless full frame R6? Thanks

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens (Canon RF) is a lens designed for APS-C sized sensors. On the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera this will still perform like a 25mm, but with heavy vignetting. It may make most sense to use it in the 1.6x crop on that camera.

Q: 2. Will this work with the bmpcc?

A: The SLR Magic APO MicroPrime Cine 25mm T2.1 Lens (Canon EF) (B&H# SLRMP25EF) is an EF mount lens suitable for use with cameras possessing a Canon EF mount such as the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (Canon EF/EF-S) (B&H# BL6KPKCAM) and the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (Canon EF) (B&H# BL6KPKCAMP). It will not work with the 4K versions without an appropriate adapter.

Q: 3. Is it weather sealed?

A: Unfortunately Venus Optics Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens for FUJIFILM X is not weather sealed.

Q: 4. Does this have hard focus stops?

A: The focus is smooth but it does have Selectable Clicked / De-Clicked Aperture. Photographers might prefer the clicked aperture ring while de-clicked would be better for video.

Q: 5. Will it work on my Nikon d90

A: I dont yet have this lens because B&H shipped me a Nikon battery charger by mistake and now the lens is on back order again. But the lens is entirely manual and I see no reason why it would not work.

Q: 6. Has anyone attached extension tubes to this lens?

A: Yes, there are reports of extension tubes being used with this lens. One is here at B&H in one of the lens's reviews.

Q: 7. How can this be used when there is no RF APC format camera?

A: The Canon full frame RF mount cameras can be set to a crop mode and Canon does make a Cinema RF mount camera that is crop frame such as the C70: https://bhpho.to/2SES3VW

Q: 8. 1.- Does this have user interchangable mounts ? 2.- can you use a follow focus like the Nucleus Nano with the iris wheel? it looks very tiny and narrow

A: It does not have an interchangeable lens mount. You should be able to use a Follow Focus system on the iris ring though..

Q: 9. Is the Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF hood removable?

A: Yes, the lens hood included with the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Sony E-Mount is removable.

Q: 10. f0.95 APS-C is roughly f1.5 at Full-Frame? (angle of view changes obviously).

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens for Canon RF is designed for the APS-C sensor. It would not cover a full-frame sensor. When used on a Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital camera, you would have to use the camera's [Cropping/aspect ratio] setting under the Camera Setting menu in the camera. The aperture indicated is the correct aperture for the APS-C sensor size, though the perceived depth-of-field would be the equivalent of a f/1.5 lens. While the focal length is correct, if you are trying to find the full-frame equivalent focal length, it would be equivalent to a 52.8mm lens covering a full-frame 36x24mm size sensor.

[APS-C] If you are not looking for perfection at this price, but a special way of rendering the world, you have a winner with this lens.
I take any chance to slow down and to become more creative.

[f/11] I very go out of my way to write reviews, but this time I had to make an exception. I bought the 7artisans 25mm f0.95 on sale, but I would say it's well worth the full retail price. There is nothing like this available for the X mount or any APSC camera for that matter. The pictures that come out of this resemble something out of a medium format camera. The wide angle 3d pop from this lens is unparalleled. If you know what you are doing, this will make your pictures stand out.

The lens is super heavy chunk of glass and metal and the images aren't even close to sharp wide open at minimum distances, but get respectably sharp a few feet away. The lens gets razor sharp by f5.6 and has no distortion. This is also a real T1.05 lens, which means it can make your camera act like a night vision device. Wide open its so bright that it overexposes even night shots. The only thing I did not like about the lens is it gets horrible flares when pointing at bright light sources at night.

For reference I have the XF 23mm 1.4 R and the Nokton 23mm f1.2 as well. While being sharper than the 7artisans, neither of those lenses can even come close in the vintage 3d look you get with the 0.95

Absolutely highly recommended!

[Manual Focus] I love this lens! I love the long slow focus - it makes it so much easier to get the exact focus I want. Sure, it's not fast, but that's not why I got a manual focus lens. So far, the images I'm getting from this lens are great and I look forward to getting more lenses from Venus Optics!

[APS-C] The r5 makes manual focus so incredibly easy, I can confidently capture bride groom portraits with ease and know they're in focus. The bokeh has a vintage reminiscence to it which I absolutely love

[Manual Focus] Great optical and build quality for price. Not a plastic brick like my old canon EF-S 100mm

[Manual Focus] Excellent lens. crisp, clear photos even hand held at rather slow shutter speeds. I love the fact that it is a100% manual lens. It puts me in complete control of the image.

[APS-C] This is my first Laowa lens, but it won't be my last. I get that this is a photo lens. And that real cinema lenses have gears for motors etc, but the focus throw on this lens is so long that it makes focusing handheld (and with its shallow depth of field) a breeze.

You can break down your rig as light as possible, as I've done in the photo I've attached and use focus peaking or the manual scales on the lens to focus.

It's built incredibly well. It's all metal, but lightweight and portable, so you're inspired to take it anywhere you just want to document life as it happens around you. The focal length is a little tight on crop sensor, but I find it's the sweet spot to give just enough compression between your subject and background. There's just something about 33/35 mm lens on s35 sensors that look really good.

On the Red Komodo- X, this is about 43mm in 6k 17:9 mode. It;s also APO, which helps reduce chromatic aberration (the purple-ish/greenish fringing around edges in bright conditions). Yes there's still some, but nowhere near as much as you'd expect for an aperture around f/0.95 aperture.

The images look really good, too. For some reason, I feel like there's some barrel distortion... which I love, or maybe just some kind of 3d pop for images framed in the center. I can't explain it, but there's a lovely character to this lens.

I have an R6 Mark II, which is full frame, and this won't work without heavy vignetting on the corners since the image circle doesn't cover full frame cameras. Again, this lens is made only for crop factor (The CF on the side of the lens) cameras (aps-c and super 35,) On full frame or anything else, you'll need to use a digital tele converter or crop-in in post (which ultimately reduces resolution.)

Anyway, hope this helps someone!

[Canon EF-M] Laowa's 90mm (full-frame) and 65mm (APS-C only) are the mirrorless successors of the legendary DSLR 100mm- minus the unusual filter-requiring design. This is a remarkable lens that makes no compromises in the process of minimizing size, unlike the recently released 85mm. Works wonderfully on the a6700 as part of a dedicated compact macro setup.
