This 165 x 165mm Firecrest ND Filter for Solar Photography 6-Stopis a solid neutral density filter providing a 6-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. It measures 6.5 x 6.5" / 165 x 165mm and is 0.08" / 2mm-thick, making it compatible with the Lucroit 165mm Filter Holder.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

ND 1.8 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 6 stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and its 2mm-thick design is compatible with the Lucroit 165mm Filter Holder.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this filter be good for shooting the moon and planets? Cut down the moons brightness and glare.

A: The Haida 77mm NanoPro One Million X Edition ND Filter (20 Stop) is a solar filter and it would be too dark for lunar use. A 2 stop filter is recommended for lunar photos: https://bhpho.to/48R3cVJ

Q: 2. Does this filter have front filter threads to stack another filter?

A: yes there is a thread on front to stack more filters

Q: 3. Does this filter fit Cokin P holder?

A: Yes, it will fit either the Formatt Hitech or Cokin P Series filter holder.

Q: 4. Is this intended for solar shooting?

A: The Haida 77mm NanoPro One Million X Edition Filter is a 20 stop filter and any filter over 16 stops is safe for solar use.

Q: 5. Hello, given that this product's filter factor is 1,000,000; does this imply ND20 and is this appropriate for solar photography?(e.g solar eclipse) the price seems fairly low for such high filtering power.

A: Yup! Indeed, this is a 20-stop filter. Perfect for solar photography!

Q: 6. If I’m shooting an eclipse event but not the sun/moon directly—just people—is this filter still needed to protect my gear?

A: This Solar Filter is used when you're shooting directly at the sun during the eclipse. This would be too dark to use for normal photography.

Q: 7. Is this filter safe for solar eclipse photography?

A: Haida 95mm NanoPro One Million X Edition ND Filter (20 Stop) BH #HAHD460795 is not rated for solar photography no.

Q: 8. Most solar filters I've seen are rated at 16.5 stops. Why is this filter rated at 18 stops?

A: The solar filter minimum recommended is 16 stops, however it is not limited to be only at 16 or 16.5 stops.

Q: 9. Is this filter a discontinued model? Nobody else has it at this price.

A: As far as I know it is not however, due to the Eclipse event this year, it took about 3 months to arrive. Well worth the wait though, I love it. I have 2 of these, one is a 13 stop and the other is a 16 stop filter. Both top notch quality and you can't beat the price on this site.

Q: 10. What is the weight of this filter?

A: I dont know.
