Featuring a special mount for a smartphone and an app that guides you through the night sky, the Explore Scientific 114mm Reflector Telescope | National Geographic StarAppmakes it easy to find, observe, and learn about stars, planets, and constellations. The telescope has a fast focal ratio that's ideal for lower magnification, wide-field observation, or deep-sky astrophotography, and the combination of aperture, focal length, and focal ratio produce bright images with a wide field of view.

The ARTelescope App includes an encyclopedia with details about planets and constellations as they come into view. Made of lightweight but sturdy carbon fiber, the optical tube assembly is supported by the alt-azimuth mount with a single control handle that allows you to track objects as they move across the night sky while also limiting vibration. The tripod provides a stable observation platform and has a tray for the included 26 & 9.7mm Plossl eyepieces and the 2x Barlow lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello. What T-adaptor (and model number) would I need for a Canon 90D?

A: So you would need two Adapters. The first is the Celestron SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter for All Refractor and Reflector Telescopes which Accept 1.25" Eyepieces - Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter. Link: https://bhpho.to/3tBoaDk Then the Vello T-Mount Lens to Canon EF/EF-S-Mount Camera Lens Adapter. Link: https://bhpho.to/3d3htDE

Q: 2. How much does the OTA weigh?

A: The OTA from the Explore Scientific FirstLight 114mm f/4.3 Reflector EQ Telescope weighs roughly 6 lb.

Q: 3. Will the Celestron Collimation Eyepiece (1.25) allow the realignment of this telescope's mirror?

A: Yes, the collimation eyepiece will assist in collimating the Cometron's primary mirror.

Q: 4. Does this telescope have a mount for a EOS dslr? I'd like to do some astrophotography with my 5Dmk4

A: The Canon EOS 5Dmk4 will mount to the Explore Scientific FirstLight 114mm f/4.3 Reflector EQ Telescope (BH # EXFLN114EQ3) with a Explore Scientific DSLR Camera Vixen-Style Dovetail Assembly (11"), B&H # EXDSLRCDA.

Q: 5. Does this have a smart phone attachment

A: Mine did not come with a smartphone attachment.

Q: 6. can this telescope be used for viewing planets within our solar system, such as Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars?

A: Yes, you should be able to see those planets with the Unistellar eVscope eQuinox 114mm f/4 GoTo Reflector Telescope BH #UNEVSEQ • MFR #EVSCOPE EQUINOX Please check out the YouTube videos on the product.

Q: 7. ?can you connect a laptop to this telescope

A: No, and the calibration for the auto track is very sensitive, mostly useless. it is however a very nice motorized scope. I suggest some 30+mm lenses to go with it, and filters.

Q: 8. Does Celestron have an adapter that allows use of a Sony a7r?

A: No, please contact B&H Photo for a suitable adapter for your Sony a7r.

Q: 9. What all can you see using the 114 LCM ?

A: I am a poor person to ask. The telescope is, I am sure, a fine piece of equipment. The problem is not in the stars, but in me. I had hoped that this telescope would open my granddaughter to wonderment about the stars and planets. My first attempt was in the summer. I set the telescope up under a patio umbrella draped over with mosquito netting. I could not get the three points in the sky needed to fix the computerized instrument. I managed to undrape the netting and get tangled in a web of confusion. Granddaughter gets bitten by mosquito, but not bitten by the bug of exploration. I tried again in late Fall. Too late. We had to retreat for hot chocolate inside. Mistakes were made as our politicians are wont to say. Don't mess with something you know nothing about! as my college roommate would say. Be sure you have someone who can instruct you on how to use this tool.

Q: 10. how do you put the telescope together?

A: Here is a link to the Instruction Manual on how to put the scope together. Click on Support at the bottom of the webpage, and you can pull up a PDF File of the Manual. [Adjustable] The telescope works great the images I see in it are the best I have seen ever . It is easy to assemble and not real heavy the only thing that I would do is make the instructions a little easier to understand when assembling the telescope

[1.25"] This style of scope gives the largest aperture I could handle by myself without spending a lot of money. I had none of the problems people reported with the earlier version. Everything works well without any modifications needed. Set up is easy enough, but there are a number of loose parts to keep track of. I think it will work well for the kind of use I will give it- I camp out on a hilltop and leave my scope set up all night. This is not a scope that you would take outside for a brief viewing. The set up is too cumbersome for that.

The mass-produced, tube Dobs can be a little bit cheaper and require little set-up, but you would need to step down in size if you transport it and use it by yourself. The premium Dobs set up quickly and are light enough to let you get a bigger scope, but the cost is higher than I was willing to pay. This Explore Scientific is a big scope at a realistic price.

[f/4.4] This is my first scope and am very happy with it. Not a fan of how the base assembles but it is sturdy after I applied glue to the joints. Tool-less mirror collimating is very handy. The red dot finder works well but kind of wish the brightness could go down a bit more. Unless you’re pointing at the moon, you can’t see anything but the dot in the viewfinder. Views are clear and after a little practice, easy to point and get on target. Looking forward to many nights observing with it.

[1.25"] This is my third telescope. I got it mostly for traveling but I find my self using it quite a bit at home too. Its light, easy to put together, easy to use, versatile and of a great quality. Mine worked straight from the box without having to be collimated (even though is recommended for any telescope). Yes, its not going to be as powerful as a 8 or 10 telescope but is more than you need for the solar system (Moon, Jupiter, Saturn etc.) and even deep space observation. Wait, its getting better. It was extremely easy for me to adapt a DSLR camera to it and in the first night I got great pictures with the moon craters. The holding tray on the tripod is extremely useful. The tripod itself is sturdy and good quality.
Optics are decent. Of course it never hurts to get better quality optics (Explore Scientific have plenty of them in the store) but if you are pleased with the stock ones you dont have too. They will do the job.
I recommend it.

[500 mm] The 114mm Reflector was very easy to set up and begin using. This alt-azimuth mount is so much simpler to use than an EQ mount. The lower power of the telescope was great for helping my parents to find objects easily. The entire setup is both very sturdy and easy to move. We were able to immediately start seeing images of the crescent moon and a very rough outline of the Andromeda Galaxy.

[f/4.4] With this excellent 8 dobsonian telescope I can see the color bands of planet jupiter and I can see clearly the rings of planet saturn and I even saw pluto, and I been taking super clear pictures of the clusters of stars with my samsung galaxy and now I feel like I have an observatory in my house, thank you B&H.

[500 mm] This is a big light great telescope, arrived intact with very nice packaging, didn't had any issues with movement but counterweights is essential, collimation was very easy using laser colimator, focuser is smooth and able to hold my heavy explore scientific 30mm, replace the red dot finder with terlad , every thing worked just fine , only problem was small aluminium shaving pieces were everywhere, need to clean it good before first use.

[Adjustable] I'm a beginner and still learning to use it but so far it's great! Very sturdy and easy to use. I definitely recommend it as a starter telescope.
