Q: 1. Is the ED glass FPL-51 or FPL-53?

A: That information is not provided by the manufacture

Q: 2. How tall is the tripod ?

A: Sorry that information is not specified by Explore Scientific.

Q: 3. how can I use my nikon DSLR camera with this telescope?

A: There are different ways to attach your Nikon camera to the Explore Scientific FirstLight 102mm f/9.8 Alt-Az Refractor Telescope BH #EXFLAR102RT1 • MFR #FL-AR1021000MAZ01 the most secure way would be to attach the Tele Vue SLR Prime Focus Camera Adapter for 2" Focusers BH #TE2CA • MFR #ACM-2000 to the rear of the scope. Attach a T-mount ring to your camera body and those (2) pieces will screw together. The T-mount or ring is specific to the make and model of your camera.

Q: 4. What is the max magnification this scope can use?

A: For maximum magnification I would not use an eyepiece lower than 5mm. I comes with a wide view of 25mm

Q: 5. Is there a T-adapter and T-ring that will let me focus my Nikon D750 camera with this telescope ?

A: You would need these 2 parts: https://bhpho.to/35GIvN3 Plus: https://bhpho.to/35M3E8u

Q: 6. What parts do I need to mount my Nikon Z mirrorless to this scope?

A: You would need this T mount adaopter to connect the Nikon Z camera to a T mount slipped into the eyepiece mount of the telescope: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1494991-REG/vivitar_hf_t2_nik_z_t_mount_to_nikon_z_mount.html Then you will need to get the actual T mount : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202135-REG/Celestron_93625_SLR_35mm_OR_Digital.html

Q: 7. Can you put it on a nicer tripod; can it come off of the tripod it comes with?

A: The tripod that is included has a different thread then your standard tripod head mount. So you won't be able to use a different tripod unless you go about doing some modifications.

Q: 8. Can this be mounted to an eq mount?

A: Unfortunately no. It uses a proprietary yoke mount so it cannot be used on a different mount such as an EQ.

Q: 9. Will this work as a travel scope?

A: The image will be backwards so it is not recommend to use as a terrestrial scope. But you could adapt it using an erect image diagonal such as this Celestron: https://bhpho.to/2eMF3WV

Q: 10. Any notes on the total setup (OTA & Mount/Tripod) overall weight? Thanks.

A: About 28 lbs.

This picture was taken with a Canon 40D with a T2 adaptor, no other optics used. Minimal processing.

I have had this scope for a few weeks now and the optics are great. I do some visual but usually I do astrophotography using ASI AIR PLUS and a ZWO ASI 183MC camera. The images I get are great and stars are tack sharp with no color bloating or fringing.
Files are FITS files and as soon as I figure out how to use a good photo processing program my photos will look better. Only wish the focusing tube was longer so I dont need to ad so many adapters extensions to reach focus, But everyone go's thru that issue.Scope works great with a DSLR also. I am glad I bought it and B&H delivered fast and well packaged.

Purchased the ED 102 triplet to expand my “grab and go” astronomy equipment inventory. Have an ED 80 Triplet, which is excellent, and wanted something with a little larger for deep sky photography on the road. Paired with ZWO AM3 ,ZWO ASI2600 Duo and ZWO ASIair Plus is a great working combination. ED 102 has great optics, and I had used a borrowed one in the past with excellent results. Looking forward to some clear nights to put the new ED 102 through its paces.

This style of scope gives the largest aperture I could handle by myself without spending a lot of money. I had none of the problems people reported with the earlier version. Everything works well without any modifications needed. Set up is easy enough, but there are a number of loose parts to keep track of. I think it will work well for the kind of use I will give it- I camp out on a hilltop and leave my scope set up all night. This is not a scope that you would take outside for a brief viewing. The set up is too cumbersome for that.

The mass-produced, tube Dobs can be a little bit cheaper and require little set-up, but you would need to step down in size if you transport it and use it by yourself. The premium Dobs set up quickly and are light enough to let you get a bigger scope, but the cost is higher than I was willing to pay. This Explore Scientific is a big scope at a realistic price.

The Explore Scientific AR102 is an excellent intermediate scope. The 102mm glass catches a lot of light and provides a great deal of detail with a low Dawes limit. The controls are smooth and solid. Because of its' long focal length, a more substantial mount would be useful to prevent some wobbling during adjustments. I would definitely buy this scope again.

Great scope, so far for watching only. I can imagine how good it is for photography.

Traded up from an AR102mm to the 102mm FDC100. Fantastic views of jupiter and Saturn. Can easily see the Cassini division. Had my first ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy. I love that I can have everything assembled and one hand it onto my mount. Just waiting on a better camera to try some DSO imaging.
B&H customer service has been top notch.

Love This Scope,It Gives Great Planetary Views, and Some Deep Space Objects Like The Orion Nebula and Star Clusters Are Amazing,Very Little Fringing Or Chromatic Aberration Around Bright Objects,But If You Want To Image,I Suggest a Stronger Mount,But For Visual,It Works Great
