The Sigma fp Mirrorless Camera 8K Raw Recording Kitdelivers high-spec functionality for stills and video in an extremely compact body that weighs under one pound. Driven by a full-frame 24.6MP BSI Bayer CMOS sensor, 14-bit color depth, electronic image stabilization, and Leica's L-mount lens interface, the fp and its fully electronic shutter provide a maximum resolution for raw and JPEG files of 6000 x 4000 and a shooting rate of 18 fps, while its focus system employs contrast detection and a 49-point selection mode for AF measurement distance, as well as face detection, eye detection, and focus peaking. A base sensitivity of ISO 100-25600 can be expanded to ISO 6-102400, and its video recording capabilities allow for UHD 4K recording at up to 30p, while Full HD recording can be captured at up to 120p. For raw video data, 12-bit CinemaDNG internal recording is supported. To help shooters fine tune their video content, Sigma's "Teal and Orange" mode is inspired by the color grading techniques of Hollywood and creates high contrast between orange colors, which are found in human skin tones, and teals (cyan blue), which are their complement. So that users may easily switch between still and video modes, there is a switch on top of the camera.

Also available for video shooters in a "Director's Viewfinder" function, which allows for the simulating of different angles of view and how an image looks in a cinema camera. It supports cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA LF and RED MONSTRO 8K, as well as other commonly-used digital cameras, film cameras, and anamorphic lenses.

Compose and review your shots with a 3.15" 2.1m-dot LCD touchscreen, and media is captured internally to a UHS-II SDXC card slot. Thanks to an effective heat sink and a 42-point seal for dust- and splash-proofing, the fp will function well for long hours of use in a wide variety of environments. If you need to connect to external peripherals, there is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port and a micro-HDMI port.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the bit depth of the MOV files?

A: The video specs are as follows; CinemaDNG (8/10/12-bit) / MOV H.264( ALL-I /GOP) with Linear PCM stereo audio (48KHz, 16-bit)

Q: 2. Can I shoot with an aspect ratio of 1x1 and still shoot raw?

A: According to Sigma's specifications, 1:1 is only Jpeg.

Q: 3. Does Sigma fp have B mode and T mode for long exposure? What is the longest time for long exposure?

A: Shutter Speed Electronic Shutter 1/8000 to 30 Seconds Bulb Mode

Q: 4. When shooting 5.7k open gate, will HDMI out still function?

A: The Panasonic Lumix GH6 Mirrorless Camera (B&H# PADCGH6) does not have that ability at the time of release. As for what it will have in the future, so far the only HDMI-related future expectation (per Panasonic's announcement) is up to 4K 120p HDMI video output with live view or 4K 120fps HDMI raw video data output to an Atomos Ninja V+.

Q: 5. Will any SD card handle most of the functions of the GH6, or is a CF card absolutely necessary?

A: Yes. The following item will adapt to the following. Media/Memory Card Slot Slot 1: CFexpress Type B Slot 2: SD/SDHC (UHS-II) [U3/V30 or Faster Recommended]

Q: 6. How is its low light capability compared with GH5S?

A: At 6400 iso the GH6 is about 1-2 stops better than the GH5s.

Q: 7. THE GH 6 USES WIFI FOR LIVE AND STREAMING?

A: Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi function in the Lumix GH6 would not allow for live streaming. That can be done via HDMI and the appropriate capture device.

Q: 8. What is the maximum video iso?

A: The maximum ISO when capturing video on the Panasonic Lumix GH6 Mirrorless Camera is 12,800.

Q: 9. is the grip optional?

A: I am not aware of a grip for the Sigma fp.

Q: 10. When it records externally 4K UHD 10 bit does it use 4:2:2 (or which) color depth?

A: The bit depth when recording internally for UHD 4K or Full HD is 4:2:2 8 bit.

[Digital] The size, modular expansion capabilities, and color science were what attracted me to this camera. I have no real need for the raw output, but it's amazing a camera in this price range has it. I especially like the menu system on the fp - it's very quick to find what I want. This isn't my primary system, but the ability to add/remove components let this transform for all types of uses. I've also been pleased with the performance of the i series lenses I've tried. If the next Sigma Foveon camera also uses L mount I could see myself going all-in on Sigma for both stills and video.

[L-Mount] Perfect discrete camera, extremely flexible, and love that I can rig it out for cinema when I want.

[2,100,000 Dot] This is a powerhouse of a camera at a bargain price. The footage from this camera + 45mm lens simply can't be beat. Absolutely love this camera. There is somewhat of a learning curve but taking the time to master the fp is well worth it. Highly recommend.

[L-Mount] Here is some footage I took using the Teal and Orange colour profile inside a Cathedral on Sunday the 15th December.
Watch carefully as focus changes. I think I had the F stop at around 5 or 6 and 30 FPS. The video and audio is straight from the camera. This video has not been through an editor, but is right from the SD card to YT.

[2.5 lb] Yeah I'm a bit of gear-head but this thing is just awesome. I love full frame format and their new L mount line of C lenses is just awesome.

[Digital] (update to previous review- I added the small grip and bought the L-M adapter, shooting mostly vintage Leica glass)

I'm happy as a clam on a calm sandbar. Using my Leica M and Screwmount glass, this camera is exceeding my expectations. It's so small and yet robust, the UI is easy and I'm shooting so much despite Covid-19 stay at home and inability to travel. I'm coming up with reasons to shoot more because of this camera.

Criticisms at the 4-month window include just how small it is (which is a benefit as well). The bottom buttons are so close to the form factor that I hit them and settings unintentionally. So if you contact the back while shooting or going about, know that you probably, inadvertently changed settings. I'll balance this comment/criticism with that I actually value the small form factor over my accidental touches.

Image quality is excellent. For the first time in a very long time (eg 10+ years) I actually printed a digital photo (vs. film). And, hung it over my fireplace. It came from the FP. No need to go into more detail here. When you decorate your home with your photos, you like the results and want to share with others.

I mostly take photos of family, so I won't share here publicly. I will post a few random shots of nature so you can see FP results.

Hope you're all well and safe-

[2,100,000 Dot] This is a fascinating camera that makes one pause and think deeply about the evolution of photography and cameras.
It complements the Fovean cameras I have owned or own.

It does not have a Foveon sensor, but the quality of the images are comparable and the versatility of the camera is superior.

Being so small, it is much easier to take with me, but I don't feel as if I am sacrificing anything.
