The IRIX Cine 15mm is a wide 43.3mm full-frame lens that uses 15 optical elements, including three high refractive index (HRI), two extra low-dispersion glass (ED), and two aspheric (ASP) elements, to create crisp cinematic shots in resolutions up to 8K while keeping the focus breathing at a minimum. This lens features a relatively fast T2.6 maximum aperture and can be stopped down to T22.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit a canon Reble t8i ?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the T8i but this is a manual focus lens only, no autofocus.

Q: 2. Is this lens focus by wire?

A: Not focus by wire, it is full manual focus.

Q: 3. What changes and how does the " An adaptive focus ring" adapt from manual to follow focus use?

A: On the IRIX 15mm T2.6 Cine Lens, the focus ring does not change, but rather, it is conducive to both manual use (by hand) and for use with a follow focus (motorized or manual), due to it's ergonomic design, equipped with 0.8 pitch gear teeth.

Q: 4. Will this cover a RED Dragon 6k sensor?

A: Yes, this lens is designed to cover 36 mm 24 mm sized sensors.

Q: 5. Would this 11mm be equivalent to a 24mm on Super35 sensor, specifically the Blackmagic 6K Pro?

A: Used on the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (Canon EF) (B&H# BL6KPKCAMP) with its 1.6X crop-sized APS-C sensor, the IRIX 15mm T2.6 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) (B&H# IRC15EFI) will render a field of view that is equivalent in its effective focal length to using a 24mm lens on a full frame sensor-equipped camera body. If you instead opt to use the IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) (B&H# IRC11EFI) with that same camera then the field of view in terms of its its effective focal length would be equivalent to using an 18mm lens on a full frame sensor-equipped camera body.

Q: 6. Does the lens hood come off or is it fixed to the lens?

A: Yes, The lens hood is removable, at the clearly visible separation line above the 15mm Irix etc logo. The lens works well for me. All lenses are a compromise and you should read the many available reviews.

Q: 7. Does the Blackstone Line of lenses matches with the Dragonfly line of lenses in color and contrast like the IRIX Cinema?

A: The IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone Lens for Canon EF optically is the same as the Firefly version. The difference is in the housing. The Blackstone housing is stronger and made of magnesium and aluminum.

Q: 8. IS there any warranty if it is shipped overseas? (outside USA)

A: The warranty that comes with most any B&H product, including this one, is USA only. If you need international protection, please purchase a Square Trade protection plan that becomes available during your check-out.

Q: 9. Does the IRIX 15 have a focus confirmation chip for Nikon?

A: Yes, the Firefly has a focus confirmation chip for Nikon.

Q: 10. Will this lens fit the canon reble t8i?

A: Yes, it will fit the T8i and is manual focus only.

[Nikon Z] This lens works as advertised. It has a ton of professional features and a lower price range.

[9, Rounded] I purchased this lens as I was looking for a replacement astro lens for Rokinon 14 mm F2.8. Without bad mouthing the Rokinon too much, it just wasn't sharp enough. I came across the IRIX lens while reading a review on this site. I'll keep it short and sweet - the lens is tack sharp shooting wide open from end to end with very minimal if any detectable distortion and the locking into infinity mechanism is a nice touch. Between that and the fact that infinity focus was spot on, I give this lens as high a rating & recommendation as I can!

[86 mm] On a recent outing with my full frame Pentax K1 I had hoped that my current Lens, a 24-70mm zoom lens, would be sufficient to capture everything I wanted but, much to my chagrin, was greatly mistaken. Yes, the individual photos turned out alright but with a super wide angle lens they could have been great. The Lens I really wanted was a super-wide zoom but I was not willing to pay the $2000 price tag which came with it for a lens I seldom use.

Enter the Irix 15mm F/2.4 Firefly. Because it is a prime lens distortion is very well controlled without any curved lines when they should be straight. At F/2.4 it is relatively fast compared to other lenses and I was impressed with my indoors test shots without flash in low light. In outdoor settings the F-stop can be slightly higher for added depth of field without compromising shutter speed.

The manual focus works well and the infinity stop is just soft enough to be noticed without creating additional camera shake when speed is of the essence. I find that the infinity setting works for most situations unless i'm shooting very close in and all my test shots came out clean and crisp. So much for the full frame review.

When mounted on cameras with a C-sized sensor the lens converts into a 22.5mm prime lens with all the afore mentioned attributes. To put it into words everyone can understand: I received two lenses for the price of one.

I give the lens 5 stars all the way for the price I paid and for what I use it.

[T22] Pro's: Feels great even for plastic, looks great, nice images at night at 2.4. Basically no distortion, images look really good straight out of camera. The protrusion on the focus ring is really nice for moving the ring because the plastic can be slick. Comes with 2 rear caps, a nice touch, I leave the spare in my walk around backpack. Con's: the infinity click point is not even close to correct, so actually finding infinity is slightly awkward because you have a false positive, I wish they would have calibrated it correctly or just taken out the click point all together. It is nice that you can change the click point, maybe one day I'll get around to it? The electronic connections are really nice for focus confirm, I would have considered the Laowa 12mm but it doesnt have any electronic connection. I basically view this lens as a poor mans Sigma 14mm, and for over a thousand dollars less I think its really great. I have a 24mm as well and the difference between 24 and 15mm is enormous, really nice for wide angle time lapse in addition to astro shooting.

[Full Frame] I got this lens to replace the original Samyang 14mm for five reasons: 1. The severe moustache curvalinear distortion of the Samyang was a problem, requiring special software to correct. The Irix distortion is moderate and easily corrected via photoshop RAW (9.1) 2. The Manual stop down of the Samyang w/0 preset stops was also awkward and difficult due to dark viewfinder image when stopped down. The Irix only stops down for the exposure meaning you always focus wide open. 3. The image quality is very good even at the corners, comparable to much more expensive lenses. 4. The removable lens hood with port AND being able to use 95mm filters 5. All this for $400.00 (OK more after Canadian currency exchange) makes this lens an exceptionally good deal!

[Full Frame] Bought this to do wide night astro images... Haven't had a chance to use it for that yet, but in general shooting the quality is great. It can even make for some fun creative shots... I have been shooting with it on a 5DmkIII... I have not had issues with the flairs that some report. I am finding you have to have light hit at just the right angle to cause a flair and a slight recompose is all it takes to remove...

[15mm] I use this lens for Astro and having the indent for infinity focus works great.

[43.3 mm] Feels solid, but isn't overly heavy. Image quality is great and distortion is reasonable. I shoot it both full frame and S35 and it handles both well.

As others have said, it's true that the lens cap is wonky. Apparently they have a fixed one that you can order separately and hopefully that's what will ship with new copies of the lens.

I use it via an adapter and did have a little trouble finding a friendly one. Fotodiox PL-EF did NOT work. I eventually went with some no-names on eBay that did.

[T22] 15mm on S35 is great. I thought this would be too wide and wished IRIX made a 25 or 35 but actually to compliment the existing 45 they sell this 15 is a good match feeling wide but not super distorted wide. Magnetic hoods are cool, but not so much if you are filming metalworking - all the dust just sits on those magnets. Minor quibble but the lens is great!
